Your reactions are utterly terrible. You purposely gloss over important events, berate characters if they dare say something that you personally don't like or is unexpected, and you simply don't have any appreciation for meaningful events and interactions happening in any series. I mean, I think they are too different to really compare - old Jumanji is a family action adventure, new Jumanji is an action comedy. But I get why this one resonates with some people more, it gets into some pretty deep places and can be genuinely scary in a way the new ones aren't. Plus, I mean, Robin Williams.

Also, interestingly, the fact that Van Pelt and Mr. Parrish are played by the same actor mirrors a similar plot device used in stage productions of Peter Pan, where Hook and Mr. Darling are played by the same actor, which is particularly funny since Robin Williams played Peter Pan in Hook before this film.

Connections to the sequels: - When Alan and Sarah dropped the game in the river, it DID get found by someone else - specifically Alex's father in 1996, which we see in the first scene of Welcome to the Jungle. Alex is essentially the Alan of the sequel films. - As some have pointed out, Alan Parrish's name is mentioned by Alex Vreeke in the treehouse, implying that the treehouse was built by Alan when he was trapped there for 26 years and that the jungle he was trapped in is the same jungle we see in the sequels. - Aunt Nora is the same character who takes over Eddie's restaurant in The Next Level, just in the alternate timeline where Alan never disappeared. They are played by the same actress. - The hunter, Van Pelt, shares a name with the villain of Welcome to the Jungle, though they are not played by the same actor and have very different skillsets. - Spencer and Alan share the same line about the game: "A game for those who seek to find a way to leave their world behind" - That sequel hook to Next Level? Basically says if we ever get a third one it might be a lot like the original Jumanji film.

its the same but also not. the game changed to video game format and my bet is the environment and difficulty settings changed with it. Maybe a meta commentary as well about old games versus new games. I just cant picture alan in the new version of jumanji hanging out with a bunch of npcs and shit . Like he looked genuinely traumatized and shit from his time there. the new jumanji movies have a completely different vibe and i believe that was intentional to indicate it is not exactly the same experience alan had but remnants of the old lasted like his treehouse.

The issue with the new ones (and every other sort of remake including Jurassic world series) is that they miss the point. This isn't just a film about a magic board game. That's the superficial plot. But it's really about family and reconciliation. Much like how Jurassic park isn't about a dinosaur park. That's just the vehicle through which the themes of hubris, ethics in science, and playing god are explored. The remakes and newer sequels miss that and just copy/continue the superficial plot so they have no heart
@kateorgera5907
@kateorgera5907 5 ай бұрын
In the case of Jumanji, I'm not sure they were trying to copy the superficial plot without considering deep themes, I think they just used the board game plot as inspiration for a different kind of story, because they knew they couldn't recreate the magic of this one and decided to just go in a different direction instead. I do think they all deal with the theme of reconciliation, though. It's just not as deep when the sequels deal with a reconciliation between friends while this one deals with a reconciliation between father and son.

Zathura!!! Yes!! This movie and Zathura were the GOATS of my child hood. Like the next level up from the more baby friendly Disney movies but keeping that feel

You mention that they (Alan and Sarah) still have the brains of adults. But they specifically said that they were forgetting what it was like to be an adult, even if they remembered each other and the events.

It doesn't really matter if you watch this one last, the only reference to the other films is that the "tree house" Alex stayed in was the one Alan (from this film) lived in. Oh and the aunt Nora is the same Nora that owns the restaurant in the newer films, played by the same actress

I forgot David Grier was in this one!! Reminds me that Blackman exists (which he is in) and it’s one of the funniest super hero movies of all time!! “Slap me around and call me Susan!” 😂😂
