actually vivian and elle becoming friends is one of my favorite things in the movie. after all they were just "enemies" bc of just one man that didn't really care for either of them. also nope she didn't break up with warren the day they graduated it's implied she did earlier (maybe days or weeks after elle won the case idk). i think that was just a way of catching us up with everything that happened during the timeskip.

This movie is also a commentary on classism. I saw a video once dissecting the costumes & how Elle is new money in the Harvard world of old money, which is in part why she does not fit in and feels safer hanging out with the nail lady. Its pretty clever as it is never explicitly stated but once you've seen it it is really obvious. So when Warner initially rejects her, it's not just about her looks, it's because he's planning on marrying into upper class -- something else she and Marilyn have in common

And if you're gonna get a ring for your partner that they're gonna wear for literally the rest of their life, they should be able to legitimately like it. Would you wear something for the rest of your life you legitimately dislike?? Relationships and rings CAN be equal, you don't have to be sh*tty about it. "Patriarchy" used to mean something, now whenever I hear it it's paired with something ridiculous, and then using the word patriarchy making it even moreso. Patriarchy what? You're not bring forced to by anyone a ring, if you don't like it, leave the person then. The patriarchy isn't forcing you into a relationship or to get married, you control your own life. Such an icon. 21:30 Funny part is that he would just look like his brother (Owen Wilson). 24:15 Probably one of the few problematic moments in such iconic movie. It did give us really funny song for theatrical/musical version - Gay or European, but in the end I wish the new movie will be more aware especially, as 21 years already passed.

i cannot express enough how much better the musical is (for me, at least). vivian's character and her friendship with elle is more believable, elle's and emmet's relationship is more explored and while the ending is similar i like it more than the movie's (tho elle being a badass was cool, i like her attitude in the musical more). also the songs are just amazingly catchy and the musical numbers are stunning. there's a professionally recorded mtv version on KZbin if u wanna watch it, it's so very worth it.

I don’t like that they took away Elle’s independence in the musical. Instead of coming to the realisation that she can study law on her own, she does it entirely because of Emmet :(. They also significantly damper her intelligence so that Emmet can tutor her and teach her how to be a good student. Essentially they take away from the point of her character to prop up her love interest. Other than that it’s pretty good though.
