After Rocky IV the writers joked that after beating Drago, there was nobody left on the planet to challenge him. Rocky V would have to be him boxing aliens. After laughing about it, they wrote a script that became Predator. In that movie, Schwarzenegger gets into a fist fight with the Predator. This movie was the inspiration for Predator.

@@axelstone3131 Well said. They are a retread of some of those very familiar story beats. I really did find myself loving the first Creed but the second one felt like an unnecessary sequel to Rocky 4 (I did like it a lot, though..more than I thought I would). Did it feel sort of like a shameless cash grab and an attempt to keep milking Rocky a little while longer? I would have to say yes...but the two main characters definitely pull you in and get you to cheer all over again. I really hope they do NOT do a Creed 3 because I liked the way they ended things and, frankly, there’s really nothing left to say.

And y'know what's more common in my opinion, is that in both Rocky IV and Bloodsport, Both Sly's character (Rocky) and JCVD's character (Frank Dux) respectively fought two of the main bad guys in the final fights, (Drago for Rocky, and Chong Li for Dux), played by both Bolo Yeung and Dolph Lundgren, since both of those guys had different physiques in somewhat of a David and Goliath scenario.

Rocky 4 is the most motivational and inspirational movie ever made. This should be prescribed this film to people who are depressed. It has a fantastic soundtrack and the training and overall aesthetic of the film is superb. The training montage is incredible. People get to caught up in the “fantastical” elements of the film and the political undertones but when I saw this film when I was younger I just saw the film for what it was without my views being obscured by the nonsense of the world we live in. See the film for what the actual film is about, overcoming obstacles and keep going no matter what. Rocky V is great. People don’t like it because it’s “different” I don’t share people opinion on the fifth film being the weakest at all. It’s a great film in and of itself.

I remember watching this in the theaters back in 1985...it was UNREAL... the audience was in shock when Apollo died. So sad. Then when Rocky fought Drago in the end...everyone was on their feet in the theater. One of the best experiences in my life at the theater!!!!
@jedielsa7452
@jedielsa7452 2 жыл бұрын
Indeed. Thanks for sharing that! The experience of this film may not be matched nor surpassed in our lifetime, imo, for many reasons. Two come to mind, such as having no internet and trailers then that show too much. There was a teaser trailer TV commercial, but it gave nothing away. So, when most went to see this film, they didn't have any idea what it was about. Like you said, audiences were in shock when Apollo died. You could hear a pin drop. Then when Rocky cut Drago in the second round, popcorn was flying everywhere and people were on their feet shouting at the screen coaching Rocky as if they thought he could hear them! Another reason this worked so well was Stallone gave this the right balance between levity and sobriety. We all laugh at the corny jokes and the robot, but when we hear Drago chillingly speak for the first time to Apollo with, "You will lose," you know something bad is about to happen. After that pulverizing first round, you were invested and on the edge of your seat until the end of the film.

Rocky IV was hands down my favorite of the series, and it desperately needed a good reaction video for it, which you delivered. I was 15 when this came out, and the tension between the U.S. and the Soviet Union was near an all time high, so the timing and script (and soundtrack) for this movie were perfect. People who didn't live through that period would have a hard time understanding and relating to it, even though they might still enjoy the movie. This was the pinnacle of the Rocky movies imo (including the Creeds), although there's some nice nostalgia in Rocky Balboa.

The main theme of every Rocky movie is that Rocky is the underdog that must overcome something. So if he is the champion, post Rocky 2, the writers have to somehow bring him down to underdog status again. Well, they did that with the deaths of Mickey and Apollo.

I didn't think they could top Rocky III, and they TOPPED IT! At the time, making a fourth movie was considered ridiculous. I'm glad they did (but also love the joke about it in Spaceballs). I can totally relate to Apollo's death hitting you hard. It hit me hard (but well...I've had 35 years to get over it). But, the idea of a fighter getting older, and never being able to let go.... it works for me. I never blamed Rocky for not dropping the towel. Apollo told him not to... and he did do it, but it was too late. You may want to react to Action Jackson starring Apollo Creed (aka Carl Weathers) The Rocky movies are generally metaphors for life, but this one was more about a metaphor for the cold war. Over the top, but Rocky's speech at the end really saved it. I predict you're going to add these songs to your workout playlists now. The movies get you pumped up. I don't think song reactions work as well, and then there's copyright issues. So if you do, I'd suggest on a new channel. Rocky V's opening scene for me, is actually great. After that... no. Still, how many franchises go four movies and each one is good (in their own way)? In Rocky V, Rocky was supposed to die, and the studios wouldn't let him. So when watching that, ask yourself if that would have made a better movie.

Well, you finally got the "Rocky Music Video" out of the way. (I called it that months ago o your first "Rocky" reaction.) People were so hyped for this movie that they were just a little dangerous. I was working as a movie theater usher, and it was opening weekend. There was a HUGE crowd waiting behind the ropes in the lobby while five of us cleaned up after the previous show. Well, the usher in charge of the lobby accidentally let rope at the front slip, and the crowd IMMEDIATELY charged into the theater with an excited roar. The five of us looked up, in unison shouted, "Oh shit!" and fled out the fire exits. Good times. =) And while I'm here, a little snippet from the IMDb trivia: "Sylvester Stallone decided that for the shooting of the fight, he and Dolph Lundgren should hit one another for real, so as to increase the intensity of the scene. After doing three takes of Rocky taking shots to ribs, Stallone felt a burning in his chest, but ignored it. Later that night, he had difficulty breathing and was taken to a nearby emergency room. It was discovered that his blood pressure was over 200, and he had to be flown on a low-altitude flight from Canada to St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, where he remained in intensive care for four days. What had happened was that Lundgren had punched him so hard in the chest, Stallone's heart had slammed up against his breastbone and began to swell, cutting off the blood supply and restricting the oxygen flow throughout the body."
