Fun Fact: When Mr T made advances towards Adrian, Mr T's Mom left the theater and she really hammered him for disrespecting a woman like that. From then on, Mr T would only play the good guy and would even sing songs about respecting your mother. Gotta love him.

@TheVolourn Some people feel its harmful to play a character that others may not fully detach the actor from the character they play. I can see his mother's point of view. She raised her son to be a positive person, but sending a negative message, make believe as it is, may have bothered her. I know there are a few actors of a certain heritage who are either not comfortable, or refuse to play another race they may look like. Some Greek actors are not often comfortable playing Turkish parts, despite looking similar, due to a negative history of being slaves under Turkish rules once. I know its foolish, but I can see why some people don't like it. Don't forget, we are talking about an old school black mother. Media and theater may not have been high on her list of priorities growing up. But the aspect of social politeness was.
@TheGenieLover
@TheGenieLover 3 жыл бұрын
@TheVolourn Why do you think his mother can't tell the difference? She certainly never indicated that. Why would you even suggest that anyone would think such a vile thing about Mr. T? Another baseless assumption. Why not try to respond to what someone actually says instead of the voices in your head?

Carl Weathers and Burgess Meredith became very close friends while making the first Rocky. There was such a small budget that they actually roomed together throughout the filming. In the commentary track on the first Rocky, Weathers talks about how much Meredith meant to him as a friend and an actor. I think he learned a lot from the older actor. Carl Weathers was just phenomenal as Apollo. In the first two films, he’s the “adversary” for Rocky, arrogant and cocky, but never a one dimensional villain by any stretch..and always a very likable character. Larger than life itself! Always wanted to see Apollo fight Clubber! I think it would have been one hell of a fight and Apollo would have won.

The character development of Adrian is just superb. She transitioned from a shy and silent girl in the first movie, to a supportive wife in the second and here we can see how close and open the relationship is with Rocky when she does not hold up to give him a wake up call with tough love which was what Rocky needed the most. The first time I saw this scene I was baffled by Adrian and it was in that moment that I knew that she was Rocky support and solace. It really made me understand how much Rocky had lost when she was not there anymore and her absence really hit me hard.

He was real close with Nancy Reagan and I love the picture of him at her funeral, everyone else is in a black suit and T is walking around in camo and wearing an American flag bandanna. The awesomeness that is T can't be contained in a black suit.

I think everyone loved Mr. T back in the day, probably still do even now. He even had a cereal. Dunno how he got that way if this was his biggest movie? Was it the A-Team? Was there anything else other than just being him that sold his name so big? Ahh just looked it up he was in wrestling too that could be why. Hulkamania and teamed up with him. Amazing he could get so well known and sell so well with so little, even with a role like this against Rocky.

This is my personal favorite of the Rocky movies. Don't get me wrong, I love the whole series, but this one stands out to me as the one where Rocky has to do more soul searching than the others. It's definitely there in Rock 2 and 4, but I think it's the biggest here personally. He finds out he's been carried without realizing it, Mick dies, he loses not just because he wasn't ready, but because his head was messed up from what was happening. And Apollo admitting that he had a hard time when he lost and still helping Rocky pull it together really makes this my favorite.

This is my favorite Rocky. I disagree with your complaint that Mr. T was too one-dimensional. The fact that he was just this unstoppable angry force made him seem all the more menacing and undefeatable, while a more well-rounded character would likely have more vulnerabilities and therefore would come across as less menacing. Really, the antagonist of the movie was not Mr. T, but rather Rocky's loss of confidence and fear. Clubber Lang is meant to be the outward manifestation of that fear. But if you think of Fear itself being the villain, you could argue that it WAS a multi-dimensional realistic, and well-rounded villain. I do respect your complaint though. And in most cases, I'd agree with you; well-rounded sympathetic villains are usually the way to go. But in this particular film, a simpler villain was best artistic choice to express its theme.

Mr. T is my favorite character of the series also you gotta look at it from his perspective. He talked about how Rocky was ducking him & making him wait. The lines "getting out while you can, don't give this man no statue give him guts" or "He don't fight no real man, he fight them setups" unbeknownst to him he doesn't know Mickey was doing it. He thanks it's Rocky which makes him even more mad. Another thing talked about was his race "Politics man. This country wants to keep me down. They want a puppet like that fool over there" again he doesn't know Rocky isn't behind all this.

Thanks for doing this one. Rocky III gets almost no credit for how good it is. It often gets remembered as "The one with Mr. T" but I think it's so much more. He essentially becomes Apollo from Rocky I, just doing basic title defense fights and doing the movie star thing all while Clubber Lane is doing the serious training with real intensity and drive. His arc in this one movie is essentially a mirror to what Apollo was in I and II. It's really important to the character to get humbled again.

I love how this film shows how highly intelligent Apollo‘s boxing IQ was. Apollo knew exactly what to do when it came to training Rocky for the rematch. If you noticed, Rocky didn’t have a jab, defense, elite conditioning, and foot work… Apollo came in and fixed all of that, and turned Rocky from Philadelphia slugger into an all-around technical world class champion boxer.

Great movie. I like the conversation part on the beach between Rocky and Adrian. You know the song "Your The Best" from Karate Kid was suppose to be the theme song but was replaced by "Eye of the Tiger". The scene where Mr T talk dirty to Adrian pissed off Mr T mother she left the screening. The best movie in the franchise is next Rocky 4 :)

My sister and I always laugh that when Mr T made the proposition to Adrian, she didn’t say no lol. Besides that, this movie is amazing, how Rocky was completely defeated, and even though Apollo wanted to help him get up, it wasn’t until Adrian spoke to him that finally admitted that he was afraid. The Rocky saga is truly one for the ages.

Except for Mick dying, there's a lot more COMEDY in Rocky III. Even though Rocky got more "civilized", I liked that he learned to read, began to do TV commercials and got RICH. If you liked the training montage in Rocky III, you'll LOVE the training montage in Rocky IV.

I would counter by saying Clubber was like Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. Rocky lost for the same reasons Batman did the first time: "Peace has cost you your strength. Victory has defeated you." "You fight like a young man, holding nothing back. Admirable, but sadly misguided."

I love rocky 3! it's the one I remember most as a kid growing up 😁 There's not much subtlety but the woman that kisses rocky on the cheek when he's training for the first Clubber fight was his real life wife at the time... The Adrian rocky scene on the beach is amazing.... The rematch might be my favourite Rocky fight, the moments at the beginning of round 3 still give me chills... the music... is.... perfect....

This is actually my favourite rocky. You hit the nail straight on the head when you said the tone changed but kept the rocky spirit. But it's still my favourite. Agreed that apollo is a great character, and love the way he taught rocky the art of boxing, instead of just being a slugger. The first time I saw this movie, I was a young kid. The scene where Micky passed is still the only scene to this day that had me in tears. I'm new to your channel, but enjoyed your reactions to rocky up to number 3. I'm going to leave your rocky 4 video for a while, because i haven't seen rocky 4 in a while, and I'm going to cinema to watch the director's cut which I cant wait. Mr T's dialog in the movie was just classic. I laugh everything I see him go at rocky at the statue ceremony. "Come on balboa, come on balboa". 'What you said paper champion"? 'Don't give him a statue, give him guts". Rocky was the man, but Mr. was a boss in this one with his dialog.
