Scary Movie 2 Movie Description:
Plot. At haunted mansion Hell House, teenage Megan Voorhees becomes possessed by the spirit of Hugh Kane, the house's cruel, wicked previous owner. She interrupts a formal dinner party, thrown by her mother, who seeks help from two priests, Fathers McFeely and Harris.
Scary Movie 2 is a 2001 American supernatural comedy horror film directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans. It is the sequel to Scary Movie and the second film in the Scary Movie film series. The film stars Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Shawn Wayans and Marlon Wayans (all reprising their roles from the first film, despite their characters having seemingly been killed off), as well as Tim Curry, Tori Spelling, Chris Elliott, Chris Masterson, Kathleen Robertson, David Cross and James Woods.
The film is the last in the series to feature the involvement of stars Marlon and Shawn Wayans, and director Keenan. Marlon would eventually go on to produce a similar horror-themed parody, A Haunted House, and its sequel, both starring himself. In the latter film, Wayans pokes fun at the Scary Movie series' decline in quality after his family's departure.
Where the original film was mainly based on the slasher films of the 1990s, Scary Movie 2 parodies an array of supernatural and haunted house films from various decades, namely The Haunting (1999), Stigmata (1999), The Exorcist (1973), The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), The Amityville Horror (1979), Poltergeist (1982), The Legend of Hell House (1973), House on Haunted Hill (both the 1959 and 1999 versions), The Changeling (1980) and Bloodbath at the House of Death (1984). It also spoofs some contemporary films, such as Hannibal (2001) and Hollow Man (2000). Scary Movie 2 was commercially successful, grossing $141.2 million worldwide from a $45 million budget, but received largely negative reviews from critics.

Some fun facts about some of the references and jokes: -The Florida ballots found in the fire place are referencing the recount of 2000 when George Bush Jr was running for president against Al Gore. -the scene where the wheelchair guy is going against the ghost in a wheelchair and they show that they h as d Firestone tires were to reference when Firestone had a major recall because their tires were exploding. It's kind of like when Toyota had cars where the gas pedal would get stuck and caused people to crash. -Also, when the wheelchair guy says "I can't feel my legs" and they tell him "Wait, you never did." This is a reference to another Wayans Bros film, Don't Be A Menace when they made a similar joke when they're visiting Crazy Legs.

The Firestone Tire controversy was about their tires exploding because the vehicle manufacturers recommended the tires be inflated to lower pressures than what Firestone recommended. And because of the tires exploding, drivers would over react and then crash their vehicles. Firestone became the scapegoat for the "too big to fail" companies.

Aside from the obvious Exorcist opening, some of the other main parody elements were inspired by The Haunting (of Hill House), Poltergeist, and Hollow Man. The song that Chris Elliot (butler) sings to Sidney is the same one Reverend Cain sings in Poltergeist 2. The Firestone tire joke refers to a scandal at the time where the tires were failing and causing deadly accidents. The Florida ballots is a reference to the Bush vs Gore election of 2000.

I love Scary Movie 2. Sadly, after this, the studio stole the franchise out from the Wayans and it all fell downhill. While 3 has its fans, and I've even seen people call it the best in the series, for me it was a far cry from the greatness of the first two. If you can, try to look up the original ending. It's definitely a different take but I think it works a lot better.

There was a time not too long before this movie when Firestone tires were having a lot of blowouts while people were driving. Caused a lot of bad accidents. So in the movie they had his wheelchair tire blow out and put the Firestone logo on it, haha!

The Firestone thing was because of a bunch of blow outs their tires had, the basketball dribbling thing was a series of commercials I think Nike did. This movie came out the year I graduated high school, with some really funny lines that my friends and I still quote!
