I think the reason that the Exorcist had a important part in this movie was that it showed the ghost of the house possessing the little girl and when she died the family moved out and that's why the house is vacant. But that's my theory.

Another great Tim Curry movie is “Legend” with Tom Cruise and Mia Sara, by Ridley Scott. There’s two versions, both worth watching. The US version has a great soundtrack by Tangerine Dream, but is shorter. The European version has lots of extra scenes that explain more, and the soundtrack is by Jerry Goldsmith. Tim is impressive as The Lord of Darkness.
