Fun fact: The title of the movie never appeared in the beginning. It’s only at the end when joe finds his purpose that the title card appears. Truly a masterpiece.

Neat little thing you could miss: When Joe shows 22 his memories, there's one where he's sitting in a diner with a piece of pie, looking dejected, making you think it's a sad memory. But when Joe's at the piano and we see that montage of memories, we see the diner scene again, and we find out it was actually a happy memory, despite not starting out ao great. It's like the hockey memory in Inside Out. It started off sad, but because of her friends and the team, it turned happy.

Pixar somehow finally managed to answer the question "What is the meaning of life?" To live.
@Tranitosaur Жыл бұрын
Luckily I found that out pretty quickly when I was a child. When my school gave us like a paper where the question was something like "what do you want to do in the future", I wrote "having fun". I read what my friends and other classmates wrote, and they wrote like jobs like nurse, scientist, police, etc. I still have no dream job or like a big goal, but I still enjoy and appreciate my life. Whenever people ask me what's the purpose of life I always answer "living". I hear a lot of people think it's to reproduce, which is really inconsiderate to those who can't lol. F no as if making a child is the only purpose of my life or anyone's.
@thebluraycollector1327 Жыл бұрын
@@Tranitosaur thank you for sharing this! 😊
@felwalkr_9410 ай бұрын
@@Tranitosaur Same. When I was a kid, I got conflicted over the question, so I just put what other people wanted to do. The world's so complicated nowadays that you can only spend a handful of minutes really contemplating that you are living and it is great before you're thrust back into the chaos.

Another big thing: Joe was in the zone when he was auditioning, but not when he was actually performing. Meaning even though he was on point and didn't miss a single note, he wasn't actually enjoying himself.
@DanGamingFan2406 Жыл бұрын
This movie is absolutely beautiful. I love the creative ways it explains the afterlife, the "beforelife", and being in the zone. And more than that, I love the message of it all. Life isn't about what you were "born to do" or finding your purpose, because nobody really has one. Life is about living it to the fullest, really enjoying it, doing what makes you happy. And it's a beautiful message indeed.
@EChacon Жыл бұрын
Without a doubt Pixar’s most beautiful and impactful films and I love the message that the film and director Pete Docter conveys on the importance on valuing and enjoying life around you which is what Joe and soul 22, especially the former experienced and learn throughout the film. Thank you ANGELINA. My favorite moments were the scene when 22 in Joe’s body asked the Barber on why he ended up taking this job as a Barber over a veterinarian which was the film's turning point for Joe to realize on appreciating life around you and being happy with what you love doing. Another was when Joe was looking at the various items that 22 in Joe’s body collected from such as the seed, the lollipop and the various scenes of Joe’s life with the music playing had me in tears.

There are so many nuggets in this movie but for me, the biggest one is the scene with Dorothea when she tells Joe the story about the young fish... The young fish is looking for "the ocean" because the idea of the ocean sounds so grand. But when you're actually in the ocean.... it's just water. Joe thinks he's not living his dream but what he claims to be in love with is playing music. As a music teacher, he does play music - every, single day. Yet he's unfulfilled because "middle school music teacher" doesn't sound grand. But it is literally his dream - he is a professioinal, full-time musician. He just doesn't appreciate it.
@richardwu8371 Жыл бұрын
I really resonated with 22's story. You don't need a purpose, a passion, a great calling or to be perfect to be worthy of life and to be worthy of living. The thing about gifts is that you don't owe anything when receiving them. You are worthy because you are alive. 22 didn't have to prove anything, she just had to be ready and accepting of living. Life in the end is not a responsibility or a contract: It's a gift and a privilege. No matter what you do, or how you choose to live, you are alive, which means you are worthy. You always were, and you always will be.

3:21 my father was geeking sooo hard in this scene ( the one with the piano too). He used to play Saxophone in a martial band when he was younger so he kept telling me how perfect her fingers placement looked, what kind of Sax it was, even how right her mouth was placed in the mouthpiece ( I laughed har on this) Like I'm pretty sure the animators made it like the real thing.

This movie was nominated the Oscar for Best Sound, and also won Best Animated Feature (Pete Docter also did Inside Out, Up, and Monsters Inc.) on top of winning Best Original Score. ❤ The credited composers were five-time Grammy-winner Jon Batiste who did the jazz compositions, and previous Oscar winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (who won for The Social Network) who did the more ethereal pieces. It’s amazing how well these two genres of music mesh together and help give the film a unique identity. ❤️ I love seeing you light up at the New York and Korean references. Hope you see more NY and Korean movies! Enjoy your pizza! ^-^

I loved Soul, such an underrated masterpiece. I understand it's not as adventurous or plot driven as other movies and that's probably why people didn't give it much of a chance when it came out, but the message and the way it's conveyed are extraordinary. I consider myself fortunate, because I'm able to chase my dreams, I'm healthy, I have a great family, loving friends. And every once in a while, it hits me how amazing having all that is. A few weeks back I was laying on a field with my friends, it was a lovely sunny day, a bit windy nut the sun made up for it, the grass made for a perfect little bed, there was music coming out of one of my friend's speaker. And as I was sitting there I closed my eyes and I focused on everything that I could sense around me, the warm sun, the smell and texture of the grass, the music, the presence of my friends. And I felt so much happiness at that moment, I almost cried. That's what Soul is about, it made me appreciate my life even more, it reminded me of that peaceful moment and all the other little moments in my life that made me feel happy. And it's all about those simple things, just like the movie showed. A lollipop, music, swimming, walking, running. The act of living is majestic. And we only get one chance, so we better make the best of it. I cried towards the end of the movie, and that hasn't happened with a Pixar movie ever since Coco, so I think that says a lot

I'm so glad you got it. I kind of cheated, did alot of soul searching before I had the pleasure of experiencing Soul. But I see so many people who don't understand. It's just one of those things, you can't understand the wisdom until you seek it. The beautiful message of existence is experience, every moment of your life is beautiful and has meaning. We get so caught up in what we want our lives to be that we are never content with what is. But every moment we experience is life, and there's no right way to walk it; every path you take is the right path, and it has depth and meaning. You don't need to *be* anything, you *are*. Stories like these are so important, even if you don't understand, it plants the seeds of a fulfilling life. All it takes is to accept what is, and know that you are exactly who you need to be in this moment. Nobody knows where life will take us, but the destination doesn't matter. It's the journey

I just watched this movie a few days ago as it was recommended before by someone. And boy, I wasn't expecting it to hit so hard. I recommend this movie to everyone I know now.
