@@TheDragonsRose Exactly! :) Grind culture will tell you to make a name for yourself and be rich rich rich by the time you're 25 or else you're a waste of space and time. But it's important to remember that a life lived quietly is not a wasted life. At the end of the day, we will all end up 6 feet under. So in the meantime; find things and people that brings you joy and surround yourself with them. And whatever you think those things are; you are correct in that belief.

One of my favorite little details is when Joe was in the Hall of You, we see a part of his life when he's eating a slice of pie by himself in a diner and we interpret it as "how sad, he's eating alone". But during the flashback montage near the end, we see that same scene of him in the diner enjoying a slice of pie, but it's a happy memory. Perspective is everything.

It wasn't until after the movie that I realized he was associating it with my sister. One of my favorite bits of this movie is how when we first see the hall of Joe’s life and it’s all blue hued and there’s him sitting at a diner all alone. it looks pretty depressing. but when he’s at the piano at the end and he’s seeing his life, we see that clip again and it’s warm in it’s remembrance, because life’s all about perspective and how you choose to view yours. Before that it's been since I've been trying to get the scholarship to another country, because without it I wouldn't be able to afford it. Then after years I finally accomplished it, then pandemic and the study at the uni in the city of my dreams wasn't as good anymore..then I graduated and didn't know what to do with my life and all the other stuff piled up and I fell into depression..Then this movie..When I saw his 'gallery of life' I felt such an impact..I thought what my gallery would be like..and it made me more depressed, but as the movie went on and that moment of realisation that came for Joe that instant came for me as well. It's been a while since I cried like that at that moment. This movie gave me a push that I needed to look at my life from another angle, to appreciate every moment of it. Of course, life is happening with all of us and from time to time mundane things get in the way so you forget all the realisations..then I come back to this movie, cry again and change my ways once more

So how I interpreted the movie: There is no grand purpose for most of us, there is no grand meaning of life, most of us won't do something that will put us in history books. So many people wait for their grand purpose to be happy, they're always waiting for the next thing, for that dream job, that person, "I can't wait for the weekend! I can't wait for the trip! I'll sure be happy then!" Life is about living. Most of the time, it is in the most mundane things that we find joy. People are always wanting, the lost souls are the people so full of desire they get lost. There's a poem by Robert Frost called "Fire and Ice", it goes "some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice, but from what I've tasted of desire I stand with those who favor fire, but if I have to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate to say that for destruction ice is also great and would suffice." Desire is one of the most destructive forces on Earth, we want we want we want, so much, that we're never happy. Life isn't about finding "your thing" most of us won't have that, life is about being alive. There is a quote from my favorite anime that I always resonate with: "You should enjoy the little detours to the fullest. Because that's where you'll find the things more important than what you want."

So a few fun things, notice that when the Jerry was explaining what a 'spark' was Joe was thinking of getting back to his body so he *completely* ignored what a spark was so he had no idea what a spark was till the end. Also Terry is actually a 'woman' I have it parenthesis because technically Jerry and Terry are genderless. The rat with the Pizza is a reference to the 'Pizza rat' meme where someone recorded a vid of a rat carrying a giant pizza slice into the new york subway. Oh one I forgot, when Terry says the count is off and Jerry goes 'the count hasn't been off in centuries' people theorize this refers to Jesus Christ and his resurrection.

Probably my favorite Pixar movie. When I watched this, it was new year's eve of 2020 and it hit hard, this was the first time I didn't see my family for Christmas nor New Year's and the feeling of someone passing away any day, really messed me up. Four years later, I watched it again with you and man, this was a slap in the face. I feel like I wasted all this time just to reach a goal, I've been so obsessed with an objective that I didn't realize every second I've spent here. Covid closed me a lot of doors and I felt that I needed to hurry things up, but now I see I got lost in my own head, and after the world shut down, I shut down from the world. What sucks is that even if I'm closer to my goal, I still didn't achieve anything. I thought I'd be happier and complete at this point in life, but the truth is, I'm lonelier than I've ever been.

This is one of my favorite Pixar movies. The message is so so deep. There's a huge thing to learn about just seeing every moment as special, you don't need the next achievement, just live :)

This is why i adore Pixar. There are many different films to speak to different types of topics and people, and there's so much depth to a great many of their films that you can take away something personal, something deeper, Soul, Inside Out 1 & 2, Up, Finding Nemo, Wall-E, Ratatouille, Toy Story, etc. etc. etc.

Did not expect a Metal Gear reference in this video, but I'm here for it.

I watched this movie recently and it really caused me to do some deep reflection. I just don't feel like i'm living a fulfilled life, but it's made me appreciate the small things that life brings. Something as small as the train arriving at the platform when I get there, finding a new piece of music that I like, or this bird that always sits on my window to rest

First time I watched this with my mom, she bawled her eyes out and was just so shocked at the existential crisis it ensued 😭 we discuss like you guys after every movie so the discussion afterwards was so enlightening!

This has to be the best animation I’ve seen. The textures coupled with the lighting make some scenes look real.

The music in this movie is soooo good. Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails did the film score and Jon Batiste did the jazz compositions, what a team. I’ve been a musician for over 40 years, started playing piano when I was 5, and what I really loved about this movie is how it depicts being lost in the “zone”. I’ve never seen a more accurate representation of what it feels like to lose yourself in that creative moment or elicited that feeling, though Mr. Holland’s Opus comes close. I was just about to hit 45 when this movie came out and that combination of music and that looming sense of life having passed you by really struck a chord with me. Not one of Pixar’s most popular or well known movies, it had the misfortune of releasing at the height of the pandemic lockdown, but I think for me it’s one of the most meaningful and impactful films they’ve ever made.

This movie hit me like a train when I first saw it. I am Joe. I always wanted to be an illustrator, but worked as a public school teacher for years. I am now working part time in another field so I can focus on my dream of becoming a professional illustrator. As someone pursuing this later in life (very much not in their 20s) it's VERY easy for that goal to become an obsession and to wrap up my personal value and identity in it. I watch this movie every year on New Years Eve since 2020 as a way to check myself and refocus on what it really means to live.
