You guys should have watched Batman Begins first which is also directed by Christopher Nolan. Batman Begins ties in to this movie and would have given you a better understanding of some of the characters in this movie.

I legit thought Christopher Nolan only made The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. I thought Batman Begins was directed by someone else. That's why we watched this one first. But we will be watching Batman Begins after for sure

here is a good story for you. aaron eckhart, the guy who plays two face, said that while prepare for his hospital scene, he notice heath, in full joker make-up, acting through the scene but not saying anything outloud. he was just going the physical motions of the scene. after watching him for a while, aaron joined him and they acted out the entire scene without saying a word. aaron would say that was one of the best moments as a actor he ever had and to this day, sings heath's praises for his skills.

When Joker was talking to Rachel at the party u can see how uncomfortable she is. It was actually first time the actress saw Heath Ledger in full Joker makeup. Also she didnt know he was gonna grab her and threaten her with the knife like that. She knew only her lines, didnt know about what exactly was going to happen in the scene. Heath's performance plus the great makeup completly stuned her and she later said she was actually really scared and couldnt look at him, couldn't keep eye contact as Joker was telling her "Look at me!" Great reaction. The big truck scene where it flips over along with THE scene in thirds movie opening are my favourite scenes in all films ever just cuz Nolan is a beast and there is 0 CGI, all practical effects. The whole trilogy is awesome 🔥

About the Joker's backstory changing in this movie. I believe it is a nod to one of the comics, where the Joker said that "I made up so many stories about me that I, myself, don't even remember which one is real".

THE DAKKNIGHT was the the 2nd Nolan movie, THE BATMAN BEGINS is the 1st made in 2005. You guys should watch the 1st movie before THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.

IF YOU WANT TO WATCH THE SEQUEL TO THIS: This is the sequel to Batman Begins, you should also watch that. It's directly connected to this one.. it explains this Batmans origin. Same Batman, same characters, same world, same actors etc. The Dark Knight Rises with Bane is the 3rd in this Trilogy (probably the weakest of them all, but an alright ending) Please watch Batman Begins next before you watch The Dark Knight Rises, as it concludes the story set up in Batman Begins.

This is awesome I love the symbolism and dialgoue in this one this whole trilogy is great and Christopher nolan did a great job at showing the messaging that Joker was trying to tell batman about chaos

Love this! I know exactly how you feel. I don't like the violence that the Joker uses against innocent people but at the same time I don't hate him. It is a difficult feeling to explain.

The Joker doesn't hate Batman. He's an agent of chaos. He just want's to see shit hit the fan. He see's Batman as uncorruptable and so he sees it as his mission to corrupt him. That's why he wants Batman to run him down. Batman's ONE rule is he won't kill. That's a line he won't cross. The Joker is trying to get him to cross that line. That's why he laughed when he though he was falling to his death and then acted disappointed when Batman caught him and pulled him back up.

Gotham City is supposed to be Chicago. Metropolis in Superman is New York City. From what I was told many MANY years ago.

Opposite actually. Metropolis is Chicago. Gotham is New York. It's actually a nickname for the city. Ironically though this is filmed in Chicago. Anyhoo✌

I think Batman's creator Bob Kane said that Gotham City was inspired by New York City's worst neighborhoods at 3AM. But its exact location in the comics and movies always seems to change depending on who is writing them. The movies will often use New York or Chicago as a stand-in to make Gotham feel more real. But both of those cities do exist in the comics, so Gotham tends to exist as its own completely separate city. Recent comics seem to put Gotham City on the east coast of the U.S. along the New Jersey shoreline, somewhere between New York City and Atlantic City, though they never really seem to definitively affirm that Gotham City is in New Jersey. This is likely done intentionally to make it easier for the reader to imagine that Gotham City could be a nearby place local to them.
