Katniss feelings for Peeta and Gale are complicated, but here is some explantation... In the books it is obvious that some of her feelings for Peeta are real even in the first games. However she feels forced by the Capitol to 'choose' him so she pushes those feelings aside not wanting to give the Capitol anyhing they want. However during Catching Fire those feelings for Peeta grow even deeper until she can no lonher deny them when Peeta hits the force field and she is faced with losing him. That moment is also when Snow (and Finnick) realizes she actually loves Peeta. When she says on the beach she needs him, that is almost like her saying she loves him. So the kiss that follows is 100% real. In the book she even says the kiss creates a new kind of hunger in her and makes her crave another. No acting there. With Gale, he has always been her best friend and she had never thought of him romantically until he declares his feelings for her. She then feels obligation to feel the same. He is familiar and easy as they have the same background. Choosing him also represents her rebelling against the Capitol and she likes that. However most importantly is the fact that she is literally fighting for her life during all of this so she can't take the time to sort out her feelings foe either one. Peeta realizes this and backs off. Where as Gale keeps pushing her to say she feels the same as he does. Which is one reason I really don't like Gale.

I think saying some of her feelings for Peeta are real even in the first games is overstating it a little. She feels indebted to him, doesn't want to kill him, and eventually she cares about him, but imo her feelings for him in the first game never reached romantic levels, at least not consciously

she loved him already but not consciously, yes. in the book, katniss got injured right after she went to get peeta's medicine and peeta took care of her. peeta then went to kiss her and that's their second kiss. she first felt something different there compared to when she initiated the kiss for the show. she thought that she wanted more of his kisses but then the next kiss was just peeta kissing her forehead and she was kinda disappointed with it lolool she also reacted diff when she heard the cannon thinking peeta died. later in the catching fire book she admitted to herself that she really loved peeta's warmth when he's hugging her just like in the cave. she loved him but didn't have the time to figure everything out + gale's confession hence, not being able to show it in her actions esp in the movies. ntm, peeta's father, who knows that peeta likes katniss even when they were just little, takes care of prim and knows her so the connection is there.

Chu, a note, when Snow asks his granddaughter since when she uses her hair in a braid (like Katniss in the first movie)and she answers that everyone wears it in school, Snow realizes that Katniss is a source of inspiration and that even the children follow what she wears and what she do 😊 or at least that's how I interpreted it

One thing you have to understand about Katniss is she’s not as concerned about romance as everyone (including us as viewers), seems to be. She’s consumed with a will to survive, avoid trouble yet do what’s right. When she told Peeta to try and forget at the end of the last one she was thinking about the horror of all those kids dying - she wasn’t even checking for a relationship with him or Gale.

I'd say the kiss one the beach is their official real first kiss, in the books its more clear that they aren't playing "game" in that moment and are speaking from the heart. In the book's Katniss says "I kissed Peeta about a thousand times during those Games and after. But there was only one kiss that made me feel something stir deep inside. Only one that made me want more."

One thing I really wish they would’ve kept in is Peeta’s physical disability. In the books Peeta has to get a prosthetic leg because he had to get one of his legs amputated because of the first games (his leg injury in the first games is a lot worse and katniss has to put a tourniquet on his leg which is good for a short period of time but tourniquets aren’t meant to be a long term solution so Peeta looses blood flow in his leg and eventually has it amputated.) so that’s why in the books Peeta stumbles around the terrain in the games because he JUST got his prosthetic leg maybe a few months ago. But in the movies it looks like he’s just uselessly stumbling around for no reason. Also Katniss in the books has severe hearing loss in one ear from when she blew up the careers stuff.

I love how team Peeta you are! But yes to clarify she was acting in the first games and she thought Peeta was acting too. But realized that it wasn’t an act for him. But what’s sweet is she really does have feelings for him and loves him. When he hits the force field and almost dies that’s the first sign of how much she really loves him. She just doesn’t realize it cause she obviously has other things that are on her mind. But I’ve always loved Katniss and Peeta’s relationship, it’s so sweet and they balance eachother out!

The three finger salute is a District 12 thing (at least at first). It's a gesture you see at funerals as both a way of paying respect, and a way of saying goodbye to someone you care about. The gesture is later used as a way of signaling support for the rebellion against the Capitol, which is why the Peacekeepers react with violence when District 11 does it.

when katniss broke the dome, it was a religious experience for me, i felt a bit like plutark. like just in awe and maybe like so grateful. these people are risking everything to topple the system, they know they won't get another chance; snow WILL level their district. the violence that will be committed against them like torture and shit is unspeakable, and they put all their bets on katniss. and she was perfect.

To provide some additional context, in the books Katniss in HG was pretending (kind of) to fall in love with Peeta, and he was not aware of it until the train ride home. The entire time she was convinced that he was acting too, only for her to realize he was not when she sees his heartbroken reaction. Also in the books Peeta lost his leg, and had to wear a prosthetic, which is why he slipped on the ice. (The prosthetic lost traction).

That's actually not true. In her internal monologue she mentions having seen her mother try it, but says it's really rare because in District 12 it doesn't usually work. Because most deaths in 12 are something like starvation or cold, and they don't really have hospitals; if it's reached the point where their heart stops, you can't save them. Whereas in 4, a water-facing district, they do it far more often because they have a lot of drowning victims. So she does know what it is, but it takes her a second to remember.

this movie is perfect imo it is a perfect sequel and i dont think i'll eer get over it like it perfectly upped the stakes. like people are just being executed live.. i love that we can follow the espionage, look back and see what plutark and the other party's motives are, all the meanings behind their words and how perfect katniss was as the mockingjay. i love that we can see that these people in the capitol, snow are scared of her, in how much advancement they have on display this time around for the games and everything. it weaves together multiple threads seamlessly and the romance is more believable than the first movie. there is growth in the characters, in everything and i will not stop praising it. i only wish they'd kept in peeta and katniss' disabilities from the books, it would help the awkward way peeta was clunkinking abt during the games.

I highly recommend you read the books. Gale's lashings were so much worse in the book. Finnick was a slave/prostitute to the capital and everyone's secrets Finnick found out and informed Snow about them. While nude. Joanna's lost everyone so she has no care about how she acts because Snow can't take anything else away from her. Mags and Annie's story is also really sad. Mags had a stroke from the stress of the games which is why she doesn't speak, but she had also lost her husband recently so she knew she had to go in because Annie's PTSD was so detrimental. Finnick looked to Mags like a mother, which is also why this whole entire part of the story is so sad. Also, the audience in the show when they're interviewing the victors/new reapings, gets killed for calling for the games to be stopped. Peeta did a massive power move and it cost the entire audience's lives. The portions of the clock arena were so more worse in the book. The blood rain and the mist and tsunami were just icing on the cake.

katniss does truly love peeta but because of the traumatic and dangerous implications of the world they live in, she tries to submit those feelings deep down under so she doesn’t truly come to the realization that she does love peeta until he gets shocked by the arena. peeta will do everything and anything for katniss, and i think that’s a beautiful notion because he didn’t have to volunteer to get in the games again, he did it to protect katniss. ALSO, in the books when Plutarch meets Katniss at the engagement party at the capitol, he points to his watch and makes sort of a hint about the clock arena, they thought it would be too obvious to put in the movie.

It's true his family doesen't need him. They will mourn him, as will a handful of friends. But they will get on. Even Haymitch, with the help of a lot of white liquor, will get on. I realize only one person will be damaged beyond repair if Peeta dies. Me. "I do", I say. "I need you." He looks upset, takes a deep breath as if to begin a long argument, and that's no good, no good at all, because he'll start going on about Prim and my mother and everything and I'll just get confused. So before he can talk, I stop his lips with a kiss. I feel that thing again. The thing I only felt once before. In the cave last year, when I was trying to get Haymitch to send us food. I kissed Peeta about a thousand times during those Games and after. But there was only one kiss that made me feel something stir deep inside. Only one that made me want more. But my head wound started bleeding and he made me lie down. This time, there is nothing but us to interrupt us. And after a few attempts, Peeta gives up on talking. The sensation inside me grows warmer and spreads out from my chest, down through my body, out along my arms and legs, to the tips of my being. Instead of satisfying me, the kisses have the opposite effect, of making my need greater. If it helps the reason they killed Cinna was because his last design represents the revolution also as a way to throw off Katniss mentality right at the start of the game. Also Snows granddaughter was wearing her hair like Katniss and that is when Snow realized how influential she is and what that would mean for the capital. Crane was the first game master and Katniss basically said " I know you killed Crane for letting me live" basically when she hung up that dummy.
