Hundreds of thousands died. The fact the whole family survived is The Impossible. This is a movie of faith & perseverance in the most dire of situations. The fact that people don't like the movie and claim it is depressing are missing the intent and purpose of the movie. In the end this movie highlights the strength of humans in times of distress. Never give up!

Some interesting facts: - The real family is Spanish, although they lived in Japan for work. - In the scene where the local women dress Nomi, the real Maria was on set and it was one of the most emotional moments for both of them. - The people who are with the father when they lend him his cell phone are real survivors of the tsunami - The director Bayona (Spanish) read the book Society Of The Snow to the actors to motivate them, from there he got the title of The Impossible. Because just like in this movie, the story of the Uruguayans in the tragedy or miracle of the Andes transformed the impossible into possible.

From what I understand, what they were vomiting in the hospital was the water, seaweed, etc, that was forced into their stomachs by the violent water. Also, apparently the real Lucas reunited I think 72 people with their loved ones in that hospital, and he grew up to become a doctor.

My tears begin to flow when Lucas is clinging to the tree, screaming in terror for his mom. From that point on the tears rarely stop. Only the intensity of the flow varies.

Society of The Snow for the next one, is the last movie of this same director of The Impossible, and it is being very successful these days. Based on the famous air tragedy in the Andes mountains.

this is a real family that did survive : The Boxing Day tsunami in 2004 is believed to be the deadliest tsunami in history, killing more than 230,000 people across 14 countries. It began at 7:59 am local time on December 26, 2004, when a 9.1-magnitude quake struck off the northern tip of Sumatra in Indonesia.

🎉 It is a Spanish film based on a true story. The director listened on the radio to Maria tell her story. The family told him his story and advised him to make this beautiful but painful movie.

I knew people who were lost and who survived, so did my mom and many others. The newspapers were filled with pictures of missing people for weeks.. my country was very shaken despite not being close at all because Thailand was such a hot vacation spot, specially in the winter. So a lot of swedes were affected. There was two sisters I knew but only one of them returned.. when I saw her sister's face it was all scratched up and she had this haunted expression I will never forget. Rip to all victims and peace be with their loved ones 🙏 I remember there was a woman who had to let go of one of her children to save the other because she couldn't hold onto both of them. She chose to keep holding the one who couldn't swim. Unfortunately the other one didn't survive.. I can not imagine her pain.

The real Maria said that while being under the water she couldn't tell which way was up or down. She said she hoped her children died immediately because she didn't want them to have to deal with what she was going through. Then she saw Lucas in the distance screaming for her and it brought her back to life. She actually had more injuries than what they could show in the film and she needed 16 surgeries afterwards. She has gone on to say that she survived on luck because she should be dead. The fact she, her husband, and her three children survived and found each other was The Impossible.

J.A Bayona (Director) is the master of realism, this is an excellent film. But his best film is SOCIETY OF THE SNOW, it is not so Hollywood style, it does not have super stars and it is in Spanish, its original language. It is darker, very raw, but it reveals the best of human beings in impossible situations. You should watch it very carefully, the second time I saw it, I understood many things and details that I had overlooked.

The grandma who talked about the stars was Geraldine Chaplin. Charlie Chaplin’s daughter. I had the pleasure of meeting her on a film set back in the 70s. Lovely person.

they were all in it, if within the wave distance..... In Indonesia's Aceh province Sumatra, waves reached 167 feet (51 meters) and inland up to three miles (five kilometers) inland. in Somalia, waves ranged in height from 11 to 31 feet (3.4 to 9.4 meters).

The mother from the original family said that the ball the boys were playing with was yellow and that was the biggest error in the film, so it is very close to reality. The mum also insisted that Naomi Watts played her

Tsunamis come in huge lengthed waves. They just keep pushing forward. Then they record and then they rebound if there’s a land mass nearby.
@edisonlima4647
@edisonlima4647 11 ай бұрын
The wave coming the opposite direction is not the water receding, per se, it has crashed upon the mountain and started a loooong process of back and forth waves. That's one thing to be specially warry about in bays, where the returning water will crash at the rocks and return, destroying whatever is left from the first impact.

People think that a tsunami is one giant wave and that's it. But that's not the case especially after a Mega Quake like that in Indonesia (9,1-9,3) and in Japan (9,0-9,1 ). It's wave after wave after wave crashing receding and again. That mega quake It had the longest fault rupture ever observed, between 1,200 km to 1,300 km and had the longest duration of faulting ever observed, at least ten minutes. It caused the planet to vibrate as much as 10 mm (0.4 in), and also remotely triggered earthquakes as far away as Alaska. It truly was a monster quake. 227.898 people died (that we know of because that number might be higher than that) so their survival as a family the odds were astronomical. An amazing story and even more amazing movie.

A family from my town that survived the tsunami said the local Thai people who themselves had lost people and their homes went above and beyond helping others. It's a shame that is not reflected in the movie as much because the Thai people deserve to be recognized for what they did for complete strangers inviting them into their homes, identifying and locating victims as well as helping people finding their families.
