I love how, when Rue dies, a lot of people assume "Oh, Katniss is gonna switch on and go super-deadly now" and instead Katniss responds by weeping in grief, covering her in flowers, and offering a salute of respect to the Districts. She responds with empathy and humanity, and THAT is what galvanizes the masses to start rebelling and rallying. Just such a lovely twist on conventional expectations.

LOL, just wrote a comment similar to yours, then I saw you: "It's actually even worse with the dogs in the books: It's implied that they've got something strangely human about them - that they've somehow been "constructed" through the remains/biology of the murdered tributes, and are now sent to both haunt and kill the remaining survivors." Yeah, absolutely grotesque detail which served to underline how the Capitol and Game Masters viewed the tributes and their districts - or perhaps how they viewed life in general - something to be molded and dehumanized to suit their entertainment/purposes. No dignity is granted, no hard line not to cross. Something which is underlined throughout the series: The tributes/districts serve at the Capitol's pleasure, and only for their amusement and ease of comfort.

Fun facts from the first book: 1. Katniss actually “drugged” Peeta to get him to go to sleep so she could go to the “feast” (get the meds for him) 2. Peeta was quite literally on the verge of death when Katniss found him. He literally had blood poisoning and if Katniss didn’t go to the feast he would’ve died like that night 3. Katniss didn’t actually “mercy kill” Cato, he was eaten by the mutts, Peeta and Katniss were both too weak to do it 4. Peeta and Katniss did actually eat the berries, they just had to spit them out/ throw them up 5. When Peeta and Katniss “met” or when he gave her the bread they were about 11/12, Katniss’ mother was literally in such a deep depression that she literally didn’t do anything so Katniss stepped up, and that’s why she’s more of the caregiver in the family, but they were starving and she went out and she stopped outside of Peeta’s family bakery and then the scene happens, so after that Katniss really sees Peeta as a symbol of hope 6. Peeta and his brothers were actually abused by their mother, but it’s kind of hinted at that she was especially cruel to Peeta 7. It’s kind of shown in the movies but Katniss really has a “resentment” towards her mother after her father died (understandably because she literally had to do everything for the whole family at the age of like 11/12) 8. Gale wasn’t as much of a love interest as the first movie makes him seem. 9. Peeta actually lost his leg (not from infection but from the mutts) and had to get a prosthetic and Katniss had to find out while they were filming her reaction 10. Peeta’s father actually at one point wanted to marry Katniss’ mother… so that was a thing I guess 11. It’s not clear which one but we know that the wolf mutts were either made out of the dead tributes or were made to look like the dead tributes to Peeta and Katniss 12. Oh and the people in the capital wanted to give Katniss like plastic surgery and cinna convinced them not too
@username-pb9ui4 ай бұрын
katniss did mercy kill cato but many hours after the mutts started attacking him, because he was wearing a full body type of armor that covered him except for his hands, feet and face; when it was already morning and he was still alive, the last arrow katniss had left was used for a tourniquet for peeta, she removed it to kill cato and guarantee peeta would get medical help faster

Also a fact from the book, that anoyed me from the start, because it changes the backstory of the Mockingjay pin and therefor the whole first act. Because book one is about Katniss wearing that pin openly....because. 1. That pin is not "found" by her on the blackmarket, but given to her (after the reaping) by her only friend in Distikt 12, Madge Undersees, the Mayors daughter 2. The pin belonged to Madges aunt. Maysilee Donner. Maysilee was reaped at the age of 16, during the 50th games (the games Haymitch won) she was killed by mutated Flamingos. That pin was Maysilees Distikt token. 3. Maysilee was the best friend of Katniss mom 4. Every Tribute is allowed one token from home and it is examened over days. While Katniss could keep the pin, The girl from District 1, Glimmer, couldnt keep her ring, because it was found to contain poison. 5. Putting the pin on in secret wouldnt work in the books, because every tribute is weight before beeing lifted into the arena. Any difference in weight would trigger an explosion, killing you on the spot. One year, a boy lost his token on the plattorm and the loss of these 2-3 gramm BOOM

To be fair, that's exactly how grooming works. The adult befriends the kid, makes them feel like they can really rely on and trust them. Then how can you turn down an unwanted advance, from the person you trust and care for? To be clear, I'm not saying that Katniss is a kid, or that she was being groomed, and I don't think Cinna is ill-intentioned at all. But he is very intimate, and the way it's framed is problematic. From what we see on screen, he most absolutely isn't asking her for consent for that level of intimacy (touching her hair, kissing her cheek), and she never explicitly gives it. But he is in a position of power over her, and he's basically her only friend in that place, which gives her a lot of incentive to let it happen even if she doesn't want it. It's not explained super well in the movie, but the tributes from 1, 2, and 4 train for the hunger games from an early age, and then volunteer when they're 18. They're called careers. The career pack then works together for most of the games to hoard supplies and hunt down other tributes, and win way more often than the other districts. Training for the games is technically illegal, which is why the other districts don't do it, but the career districts get special privileges from the Capitol and are more well off.

After seeing Katniss collapsing from hunger and frustration, Peeta burned the bread on purpose -- but only on one end so a good amount is still edible. His mother beat him for buning the bread and told him to feed it to the pigs. Instead, he secretly gave it to Katniss. He looks behind him before throwing it to see if his mother cannot see that he's not throwing it to the pigs. This is a risky act of kindness and compassion. Cato and Clove are from District 2, and Marvel and Glimmer from District 1 are known as Careers. Hamitch told Katniss and Peeta (in the movie) that they are trained from early childhood and volunteer when they're 18. Therefore, Cato is a trained 18 year old. Unlike Katniss and Peeta, they are well-fed, well-housed, and exempt from any other work except training. Their entire lives is about the Hunger Games and, Hamitch tells us, they win almost every year. When Peeta allies with the Careers, he does so to help Katniss. He leads the Careers away from where he knows she's hiding. In the book, Katniss (about 15 or 16 in the book) makes it clear that she has no interest in love, romance, or marriage. She doesn't' want to have children for the reaping. Gale, who is 18, may want more but she sees him only as a hunting friend. They help each other feed their families. Movie watchers (maybe the film studio) created a love triangle where there is none at this point in the series. Cinna views Katniss as a child (if not a little sister) who took courageous action when she volunteered. He wants to help her survive. Nothing he does is sexual, despite your misconception. I am not volunteering for your team. My momma didn't raise no fools.

1. The movie doesn't make it very clear...book readers got a whole lot of details. 2. "Well fed, well housed, and exempt from any other work" again, book exposition. 3. The book exposition made it clear, the movie made it muddy. As you can see, despite his attempt, they still found Katniss anyway, with a short duration and cut of the movie, it's rather unclear whether or not Peeta was helping her...and as for Peeta telling her to go, again the movie made it doubtful because Katniss was experiencing hallucinations... you can only know his intentions on hindsight. 4. Another book details. 5. How often do you see movies where an adult made such gesture to a child/teen? Again and again, book details are advantageous. You can only know Cinna's intention in hindsight for the movie.

@@UltimaTheSeraph My points were not to compare book to movie. They're different media and I don't expect them to be the same. My intent was simply to point out some thing that led to conclusion jumping that is not evident in the movie. Just people projecting. And I didn't want to spoil what will be revealed later. #3. They were able to find Katniss because of the fire that led her away from her hiding place and towards the Careers. Peeta had kept them going away from her before then. #5. I guess I don't automatically sexualize affection. The brotherly kiss on the check is very clear to me. Nothing is said int he book either way but it is clear that Katniss accepts his brotherly affection when she generally is suspicious of romantic interest from Peeta and, somewhat, Gale.

It's like putting green apples into a bowl of red apples and expect people not to notice the difference when it's clear when you bring up something different, whether intentionally or not, is to compare. Also #5. Of course not, anyone who has read the book and the details it gave, especially Katniss's thoughts can understand that Cinna was never weird in the book, the first impression even implied that Cinna didn't look at her the weird way even though Katniss was standing naked in front of him...the movie, however chose an ambiguous route, presenting uncommon gestures without so much of a context except for the hindsight. It is understandable for people to get the wrong idea at first, just like how people got the wrong idea at first about Peeta throwing bread at Katniss...even Katniss in the book didn't get his intention until the day after.

Cato is such an interesting character. All the careers are tbh since they’ve been raised from a young age to want this and when they get to the games they realize that it’s not what they wanted. Cato’s little speech at the end about how he’s already dead just shows how he’s realized that he’s been set up to die. They always make me sad bc people tend to just think that they’re bad people not just kids who’ve been raised to think this is ALL they are supposed to do

Also ...something i noticed, after watching 100s of reactions. Its always the same. The creators start this movie "Kids fighting for their lifes? Thats BS! Whst kind of system is that?" and later, at the end "I want Cato to die next" or "Cato deserved it" .... THAT is the system. THATS why the games worked for over 70 years. All it took was 2 hours of movie and you start cheering for kids killing kids. Thats the beauty and the scarry thing about Suzanne Collins witing. Showing how easy it it to fall for this system.

Despite Jennifer Lawrence only being 20 when the hunger games began filming, and having only starred in a handful of movies at that point, she had actually already been nominated for an Oscar by then! For a movie called Winter's bone. And her casting in this was announced as she was filming x-men: first class. And in the same year Hunger games was released, 2012, Silverlinings Playbook was released, for which she won an Oscar (becoming the 2nd youngest woman ever to win one, at only 22!!!!!) So whilst the Hunger Games did in some way introduce her to the mainstream (read teens), she was already very critically acclaimed. I love that the casting directors actually built a cast of insanely talented young, and older, actors for this. They took the movie seriously and that's why it still works today

One thing to realize about all the adults that work for the hunger games (whether it's their mentor or their stylist) is that these people have had to watch year after year these children that they are "helping" get murdered. It simultaneously explains some of their gentleness with some of their rudeness/distance. Cenna is being kind and affectionate because he knows he is one of the last faces she will see before going into the games. He is trying to calm her by being calm himself, as if this is no big thing and they will see eachother again. Haemich can be cold and distant at times but it's because for the last whoever many decades he has been the one and only mentor for the district. Year after year he talks with these children, gets to know them, coaches them, and then watches them be violently murdered. He knows their chances of survival are extremely small, he is preparing himself not to feel their loss by not getting attached in the first place.

The ending is so much more brutal in the book: The large dogs are made with the DNA of the dead tributes and Katniss notices when she sees one of them with Rue’s eyes. Peeta actually loses a leg because it gets bitten severely by the dogs as he’s climbing the Cornucopia. Cato’s death is probably the WORST. He does get eaten by the dogs but they eat him slowly for HOURS until Katniss can’t hear his cries anymore and takes pity on him and kills him… The movie toned down A LOT lol

As a girl (and a woman) whose been dodging uncomfortable and creepy relationships/advances my whole life, Cinna it's 💯 pure. I sense no attraction, just fondness and sincerity. And his character design aligns with the books! He doesn't do crazy Capitol style, no crazy colors or surgical modifications. His clothing is timeless, no alterations or adherence to trends (he doesn't look like the crowd at the train or the citizens we see at the times we switch to Haymitch's perspective). Yes, it resembles the pattern of designers who set the trends rather than the ones who follow them (look up the Cerulean Speech from The Devil Wears Prada). However the expression of his skill, plus his affection for Katniss, heavily implies that he is talented in fashion and uses that talent to offer a little dignity to the Tributes. Cinna is the [platonic] best.

A mockingjay is a fictional bird in this series. The Capitol creates genetically engineered animals called "mutts." They made a mutt called a jabberjay (which copies human speech) that mated with mockingbirds. It's a symbol of the Capitol not being able to control everything. The three fingers is a funeral salute. Goodbye to someone you love. These things are not explained in the movies, I just read the books.

Haymitch is definitely one of the best characters. He won the 50th hunger games so for the last 23 years he's been tasked with mentoring and trying to keep the district 12 tributes alive. He gets close to know the kids and then he has to watch them brutally die despite his best efforts. So eventually he stops trying to connect with the kids. He tries to keep himself emotionally detached from them to save himself from the pain and guilt. Until he meets Katniss who he realizes might have a chance at winning. He lets his walls down for her and Peeta. And on top of that Snow kills everyone Haymitch loves after he wins. Snow does this because Haymitch won in a similar fashion to Katniss. Haymitch showed up the game makers/the capital which Snow didn't like. So Snow killed Haymitch's entire family and his girlfriend. Between losing everyone he cares about and having to watch so many kids he cares about die it makes sense why Haymitch becomes an alcoholic.

Rue is the same actress from the Acolyte Also, district one has kids that train solely to go into the games which is why they’re so good at it immediately, they have volunteers every year And the dogs in the books were far scarier, they actually resembled each of the deceased tributes and had human like eyes
@heddadybvadskog-nebb56034 ай бұрын
In general: the lower the district the wealthier. So Katniss is from the poorest district and Clove and Cato from 2 so they are from a completely different world basically. All the districts have an industry they specialise in: mining for 12, agriculture for 11, Fishing for 4, Tech for 3, Masonry and defense for 2. In the richer districts being a tribute is considered an honour and is very prestigious, with families often sending their kids to special schools just to train for potentially being in the games. Because of this, the rules for volunteering are incredibly strict there bc everyone wants to go. If you win you get a house in the victor village in your district and an insanely high monthly allowance for the rest of your life- but you never truly leave the games, the rules are just different. You have to be a mentor and watch kids you are responsible for die, you have to be in the media, go on tour, be at the beck and call of anyone with power always, and you probs Have horrible PTSD. All that glitters is not gold

She just focuses on providing for her sister and mom.

The 'extra food' thing is the Tessera or Tesserae (plural) which is for a years supply of grain and oil for one person, delivered monthly. It's essentially worked out so the poorer districts have no choice but to do it while the wealthy ones don't really have to. The poorer the district; the more tesserae is applied for. Simply because, without the supply of grain and oil (nutrients and warmth) they would very likely die. The children who are Reaping age of 12-18 can put their names in for those rations for EVERY living member of their family (if they wish, or if their parents force them to) per year. Both Gale and Katniss elected to put their names in for the extra resources. And yes, you were right, it is illegal to hunt beyond the boundary lines and illegal to have 'weapons' (her bow and arrow), all of that is geared to force the poorer districts to apply for government 'help'. Say you have yourself, 4 siblings, and both your parents are alive, and a grandparent. By the time you're eighteen your name will be entered 7 times, as it is cumulative per year. However, if you also apply for tesserae for ALL members of your family (8, including yourself) your name is in the bowl 63 times by the time you're eighteen. It's not even really an option for some, because they will simply die of exposure and starvation if they don't sacrifice the chance to be put into the Games. It's basically: "either you can sit back and watch yourself and your family die of starvation/exposure, or you can up the chances being put into the games and murdered for sport to entertain the rich." This class system can force people to keep having children as long as possible so they can keep applying for the tessera once their older children are outside of Reaping age, because only the lives of their 12-18 year old children can be bargained for supplies to avoid certain death. Risk sacrificing one kid to save your family for another year? Most will. It's quite ingenious, and simultaneously absolutely sick.

Cinna is not a creep. He's a friend, and almost an older brother/uncle figure. Like everyone else, he's likely seen the Hunger Games happen through his life and when he builds himself up as a stylist for them, he chooses District 12. I won't go into much detail because spoilers for the other movies - but just think of the fact that he knows theres every possibility Katniss could die. If these are going to be her final days before dying in the arena, it makes sense for Cinna to want her to feel like she is beautiful and worthy and loved, without ever crossing a line into something creepy. The tributes have (mostly) been ripped from their homes and isolated and made into pretty little killer dolls for the capitol to play with. Cinna treats Katniss like a person, with respect and dignity, instead of like an object. I always have mixed feelings about Hamish but I very much understand how he got to be how he is. He won his game (which had souble the participants) and went through that huge trauma, his family is killed, he's alone in the Victors Village as the only winner from District 12, and every year he has to personally watch two kids from his district die without being able to do anything. It's no wonder he's a cynical drunk, and that's not counting the things the capitol potentially also did, including what basically comes down to a tribute sex-ring. Katniss, and even Peeta, are outliers within the tributes from District 12. It's a poverty stricken district where people are starving - the ones who don't have their name in extra times for extra food are likely still starving, and the ones who have their name in multiple times to stave off starvation are more likely to be chosen. But against the 'careers' from top districts, they don't have a chance because there is no infrastructure or equipment for them to learn certain skills. And when it comes down to it, the younger kids are unlikely to survive against the older ones unfortunately. Foxface is fascinating. We see her matching plants during training, and it's assumed that she saw Peeta picking nightlock and figured they were safe, but that doesn't make sense because of that training bit. I agree with the fan theory that it was suicide more than the idea that she made a mistake. Her plan for the games was to hide until everyone had killed each other off - a plan that had worked for other tributes in the past - and when it became clear that it wasn't going to work, she made a choice. She wasn't going to be a spectacle for the capitol to watch, she wasn't going to be tortured or killed violently, she was choosing to bow out privately by her own hand. And I can't leave this massive comment without talking about Thresh and the other tributes. He wasn't there to make friends, but he tried to protect Rue in what small capacity he could. He knew that they were all against each other, that he might have to kill Katniss eventually, but he protected her that one time in Rue's name. They were kids in this huge fight to the death but not all of them lost their humanity. Even the ones who you think have - the careers - are still just kids who the reality still hasn't quite sunken in for. Cato begs for Clove to stay with him, even knowing there can only be one winner. He talks about being the capitol's pawn and being raised for the slaughter to bring pride to his district. And, in the end, he asks Katniss to mercy-kill him. His death and the mutts become some of Katniss' and Peeta's worst nightmares. The mutts especially were horrific in the books compared to the movies. In the books, they resembled the dead tributes. Peeta wonders if they have the tributes real eyes in them, and Katniss wonders if they have the tributes brains or memories and if they were programmed to know their faces or to look for their killers. It's not confirmed if they were just lookalikes or if they had desecrated the dead tributes bodies to create monsters, but it's a very real and horrifying thought and even more of a slap in the face to the tributes themselves and their families. Proof that they really are just objects and game pieces in the capitols eyes.

To give you backstory on the hand gesture during the reaping ceremony, it's explained a bit better in the book. It's a gesture exclusive to District 12 that is used during funerals for the coal miners that die in explosions. It basically means "thank you for your sacrifice" or "we honor you." So, when Katniss volunteered the community saw her act as a sign of selflessness for the sake of the entire district. They were basically thanking her.
@BeccaBoo1063 ай бұрын
In the book Cato’s death is much more brutal because his item he got from the cornucopia feast was armor that covered his vitals, so when he fell to the dogs they couldn’t reach anything to kill him, he spent a whole evening being mauled before Katniss shot him because she couldn’t take it anymore. And the warning Haymitch gives her afterwards is because he won his games in a very similarly Capital-defying way and so Snow killed his family and his fiance
@merileopardisaksassa7030Ай бұрын
When you grimace at the kiss on Katniss hand that reminded me. They make this intentionally awkward and uncomfortable because in the books there is a clear storyline of victors being forced to be high-class escorts through threats on their loved ones lives. This does actually not effect Katniss and Peeta due to their unique circumstances but one should look at all the mentors through this lense. If I remember Haymitch also was able to refuse because the capitol already murdered all their leverage before trying that.

I do love the detail that the tribute center isn't comfortable, even though it is big and clean and luxurious. Everything is hard gray stone and sharp edges--brutalist architecture. Unnatural citron colors and trees without leaves. It really emphasizes that even though they have been elevated from squalor, they are not safe. This is not home, with plush chairs and fire in the hearth and green plants that grow and bear fruit. This place is unnatural and cruel, and it is trying to kill them just as much as hardship and hunger were trying to kill them before. Here they have everything, but still nothing.

The three finger salute is actually FROM District 12 - and NOT from the other districts nor from Panem in general; it is a D12 specific salute that has been a part of their customs for decades, which is important to note in later films. I have never heard anyone who thought Cinna was creepy (till now). Their relationship isn't like that. He admires her bravery for saving her sister and is sympathetic towards Katniss. After leaving the district, everyone (other than Peeta) around Katniss is either worried about appearances or results. Cinna is the only one who treats Katniss like a person. He becomes a friend and a mentor. The exchange between them isn't romantic or sexual in any way. Even though Cinna said he'd bet on her, there is still a very real possibility she won't make it, and it's the last time they will see each other. It's "I hope you make it," but it is also "goodbye" just in case she doesn't.

Ok so the most important thing left out by the movies is that at the end of the Games Peeta is still with his right leg messed up and Katniss had to do a tourniquet before the Mutts (which are called that because it's the short way for Mutation)... This ends up destroying his leg, because after they throw Cato to the Mutts, the panters (which were genetically modified to look like the fallen tributes) played with his body for days until Katniss shot him for mercy. Peeta loses his right leg and gets a prosthetic, Katniss loses his Left Ear hearing at the food explosion, she gets medical attention after winning and gets it back. They both are 16 in this first book/movie, Gale (Liam Hemsworth) is 18.

Fun Facts: District 12 Filming Location: District 12 was filmed at the abandoned Henry River Mill Village, located about an hour's drive from my home. On one of my outings, I stumbled upon the filming in progress. Due to the covered canvases, I initially thought the property owner was renovating some of the structures. Little did I know, the scene being shot that day was Peeta’s bakery. Today, a large sign marks the site as the filming location for District 12 in *The Hunger Games*. Isabelle Fuhrman: Isabelle Fuhrman, who portrayed Clove from District 2 in *The Hunger Games*, previously starred as the chilling character Esther in the horror movie *Orphan* (2009). Her performance in *Orphan* is iconic, showcasing her talent for playing devilishly complex roles. The Hunger Games & Battle Royale: *The Hunger Games* draws comparisons to the Japanese film *Battle Royale* (2000), which features a government-sanctioned fight to the death among school children. Though largely banned, *Battle Royale* gained a cult following and was officially released in North America after the success of *The Hunger Games* at the box office. If you haven’t seen it, *Battle Royale* is worth checking out as a classic of the genre.

You recognized the roman references! The "country" of this games is named Panem. Is a futurisric and destroyed USA. The name comes from "panem et circenses", that is "bread and circus". It was used around the whole gladiators fights and all those shows, to calm the masses. Like a "keep the people fed and entretained and they will not complain" kind of slogan. So all the names and references to the roman culture, is for that reason

Was so happy to see you had reacted to this😅 Hunger Games franchise is one of my favourites. Please do the whole series 🙏 Little bit of extra info only about the first HG's book/film. No spoilers for the rest of the series! The 3 finger salute is a symbolic gesture that only District 12 use. District 11 were doing it basically honouring Katniss for trying to protect Rue, giving her a 'burial' and just showing the kindness that she did. Katniss is a really complex character, and she has a skewed perspective on love after watching her mum fall apart mentally/emotionally when their dad died in the mines explosion. The only person that she knows she truly loves is Prim, and her life basically revolves around survival and protecting her sister. Love and relationships are not on her mind, however, in books she does feel something for Peeta when they kiss in the cave. She has history wity both Gale and Peeta in a non-romantic way. With Gale being her hunting partner (he also has family to provide for), and Peeta did throw her that bread. The movie failed at showing the importance of that scene and it's one of the only few things that I didn't like about the movies. Katniss was starving at that point and had given up on life, and Peeta saw her outside so he burned the bread on purpose to give it to her knowing that his mum would abuse him. After this, Katniss had hope again and kept trying to survive. Anyway, thank you for your reaction 😅

my new favorite youtubers just from this one video. Normally, when I watch people react to things, I skip the parts where they talk. (which doesn't make sense because I'm watching them REACT to it, but whatever) But I didn't skip a single f'in part in this video. you guys made this so funny, and I'm all for it.

I always felt really endeared to Cinna. Trusted him from the get-go. I don’t think he had any ill intent. Some people in the comments do have a point I suppose that there’s a power dynamic there because of their classes and positions. But I always took his gestures as being empathetic and supportive. And I also never saw a romantic vibe between them even though he’s intimate with her, it felt fatherly/close friend-y as some others have said. He felt like the only real person in the capital who actually cared about her.

12:39 So the movie doesn’t really make this clear, but you are limited to how many times you can put your name in. No matter what, your name goes in 1 time for every year that you’re eligible. It’s Prim’s first year, so her name was in once. It was Katniss’s fifth year, so her name automatically went in 5 times. Then she was allowed to add her name 1 extra time per member of her family. So when she was 12 she put her name in 4 times (1 automatically, plus 3 for herself, Prim, and their mom). Then that adds on every year. That’s why Gale’s name was in 42 times. He’s put his name in 6 times every year (1 plus 5 for himself, his 3 siblings, and their mom). Gale is now 18, so this is his 7th year. 7 x 6 = 42. That’s also why they don’t necessarily celebrate when they age out of the reaping. They can no longer get extra food. And for Gale, he can start working in the coal mines, but that leaves less time for hunting, it’s still a dangerous job (his dad and Katniss’s both died in a mine explosion), and he’s probably not making enough to bring in the same amount of food he was getting every month from having his name in the reaping.

My dude made a great point about the first scene on the train, In the books the hunger is focused on a LOT more Katniss and peeta do start eating everything but Katniss was taught manners by her mom (who is from the nicer part of the district originally) and peetas dad is the baker so he knows how to eat as well, Effie makes a comment about how “at least the tributes aren’t using their hands this year” and Katniss recalls the two tributes from the year before who very skinny starving children from the seam (the coal mining part of the district, the most poor) so Katniss eats the rest of her meal with her hands, I think they both get sick as well from eating too much at once
