They invented the "bullet time" effect for this movie, no one had ever seen it before. As cool as you think it is now with modern VFX being the norm imagine how it looked to an audience who had never seen anything like it before. As soon as Trinity does that kick where the camera flies around her in the first minute or so of the movie you knew this was something completely different. After this movie the effect became overused for a few years. I'm glad that has faded because now you can watch this movie without thinking "I've seen this 100 times before." It's one of those rare movies that combines cutting edge VFX with a perfect script and cast (and directors). Truly a masterpiece.

Well, in fact it's an enhanced version of an effect form an Smirnof commercial made by special effects genius Michel Gondry (Eternal sunshine of a spotless mind, Science of sleep, tons of crazy video clips including Bjork or The chemical brothers...) The craziest is they did it with film cameras and not digital ones (to complex and expensive at the time). They used ramps of fast triggering cameras and had to process the films then scan them for the compositing. If one roll from the batch was damaged in the process, the whole shot would had been inusable

You have to enjoy the little computer jokes. ^^ * The agents literally put a computer bug into Neo. * Neo had to accept the cookies from the oracle to proceed. * Oracle was one of the first major database companies in the 1990s, so it makes only sense to give her character that very name.

Indeed. You recall the scene with Cypher where he's surprised by Neo and Neo asks him if they always watch the Matrix encoded. Cypher replies that they have to, but they get used to it. "I don't even see the code anymore. All I see are, {points to each monitor in turn} blonde, brunette, redhead." In the end, Neo did exactly the opposite: he sees the code underneath the Matrix while he's in it. And because he can see it, he can manipulate it (he is a computer programmer and hacker, after all).

VFX were around before this movie, (Jurassic park and Jumanji) but the flawless integration of human and virtual objects had not been so well executed. Until this movie. Plus the integration of Martial art wire movie techniques had never been done in a major Hollywood feature film. Which allowed for the level of realism in the live action scenes. So it was still grind breaking.
@m2c_tave6893 жыл бұрын
I do agree that this many high quality VFX shots in a movie was unheard of. Most movie would use practical effects and animatronics until the very end and them go wild at the end with VFX shots.
@WizardOfOss3 жыл бұрын
The interesting thing is that still many shots that would now be 100% CG were still partially practical. Like the bullet time scenes, which used ingenious camera rigs to film the actual actors. And I think that in part is why this film stood the test of time so well. Better than the sequels if you'd ask me, even when those raised the bar on special effects even higher, they also had a few rather dubious scenes where characters are too obviously fake.

Just finished the video and I loved your reaction!! Thank you so much for being ACTUALLY invested in the movie(I've seen a few channels where people don't really engage with the movie) because your hype and excitement is CONTAGIOUS! I specially loved the scene where the whole crew spawns into the Matrix and you were like "They look so badass!" and I'm like THANK YOU, that's one of my favorite scenes of the whole movie cause of the crew's swag and many people don't even acknowledge it xD

@Tekkarath3 жыл бұрын
No, the 'next one' is the Animatrix. It's like you people don't know anything about these movies. A few of the Animatrix shorts have very crucial plot points that make things in the next movie much clearer. And some of them clear up a lot of the backstory to the matrix, like how it all started.
@quincycamo75773 жыл бұрын

This movie was an incredible thing when it first came out, nobody had ever seen anything quite like it before. If you watch this movie again (or any of the sequels,) you will notice that the lighting is different between the two worlds. You really don't notice it, but you'll find that the matrix has a different color pallet than "the real world," and it's something that does register in your brain, but not something you really notice as users are moving back and forth between the worlds. You realize that something's different, but you're not sure what.

This movie was so much ahead of its time, if it came out today, 22 YEARS later, it would still be relevant and totally wreck the box office. From the VFX through the cinematography to the philosophy it is still the yardstick all future classics are measured to.

the Oracle didn't say he wasn't the one she said he has the gift but he was waiting on something a next life perhaps. So he's able to kind of get stuff but it's not until he dies and enter his next life, he was able to fully embrace the one.
@DP-um1ck3 жыл бұрын
The Oracle says a couple of things that are often overlooked. Actually the most important part she says is: ".. I'm sorry kid. You seem to have the gift but it looks like you are waiting for something." That something turns out to be the moment where he decides to save Morpheus.

notice how the oracle says "you got potention, but something is missing, your NEXT REENCARNATION MAYBE!" so, Neo was not the one, he needed to REENCARNATE in order to become the one, and in order for that, he nedded to DIE! so, the only thing that makes neo become the one, is deciding to go back for morpheus and dying, if he havent come back, he would not have become the one, so you see, as he said himself, IT IS A CHOICE! you chooso to be the one, you're not destinated to it, anyone could be the one, if they chose to belive they could be, and if they were willing to sacrifice themselfs.

I saw all three movies in theaters. Watched the Animatrix DVD and played the tie-in Enter The Matrix video game back in the day. Funny thing happened while watching the second movie. The movie stopped playing just as Neo jacked back into the Matrix. It was perfectly timed. The whole theater sat there in the dark for a full minute before anyone realize it wasn’t part of the movie.
@osirispluto87823 жыл бұрын
Lol, that's pretty funny. When I went back to see the second one in the theater the sound cut out during an action sequence so the audience started making the sound effect noises with their mouths and making up dialogue whenever someone on screen would speak. Luckily most of us there had already seen it before so it wasn't too big a deal.
