Charles martinet is not Mario's "original" voice, Charles started voicing Mario in 1992, before that Mario had a Brooklyn accent which is what they're going for in the movie, one of the well-known old school Mario voices was Captain Lou Albano, which was a scruffy Brooklyn accent

Jack Black's casting as Bowser is one of my favorites in a movie inspired by a video game franchise. Right up there with Ryan Reynolds as Detective Pikachu and Ben Schwartz as Sonic The Hedgehog.

Mario used to have a scruffy Brooklyn accent before the squeaky voice we all know, a good reference would be The Super Mario Bros Super Show which is one of the old Mario cartoons which by the way the rap song from the plumbing commercial is a reference to the intro of that show

@@Luis_1605 I can't really say for sure, since we've rarely been able to see everyone's abilities compared directly, but I think that at least Bowser, Donkey Kong and Rosalina have all shown impressive feats of power. Not to mention Mario and Luigi, who regularly fight against Bowser and King Boo and WIN. If we count the RPGs, there are also Cackletta, Smithy, the Shadow Queen and more.

Being a Mario fan my whole life this is one of my favorite movies. Even at 17 it was so magical in theaters. There are so many Easter eggs in this movie. And being an avid Mario fan I understood all of them. I can't wait for the sequel to this movie. I want a Luigi's mansion movie because it is a fire series.

I like to think I understood at least most of the references I noticed, as well. The only thing I didn't get was Spike. I just assumed they decided to name a key human character after a Mario enemy that they decided to not have in the film. I never played Wrecking Crew much though, let alone known anything about its story or characters aside from starring Mario.

Their IS A THEORY that in the Sonic movie at the end of the movie when eggman goes to the mushroom planet that that is the same place in this movie, at the start of Sonic 2 eggman has sonics hair that is VERY powerful and eggman makes a signal with it to get help but it also sent out a Shockwave probably SOOOOO powerful making the mushrooms come to life and now we can see them in the mario movie.

Having grown up with, and having experienced Mario pretty much my entire childhood from 7ish till 13ish years old through the SNES and N64, and through SNES emulations on PC after that age through my teen years. This movie just hit right. Everything, nearly EVERYTHING is Fanservice to those of us who grew up with the games. The easter egg characters, like King Bomb from N64, to straight up the Music in most scenes and moments having the most iconic and yet fitting mario music to fill them. And on and on. Was it a top tier greatest film ever? No. Was it a solid good film? For sure. Did I enjoy watching it? Abso-fucking-lutely!

The Mario games primarily take place in the Mushroom Kingdom (no relation to the Sonic mushroom planet), and sometimes New York, that’s why the movie takes place in those locations. In the games, Bowser usually captures peach in an attempt to mary her (even told his son that she’s his mother) In the games, Peach’s personality is very different from this movie, she’s still able to take care of herself, but more in a feminine grace, less action-hero way. And she actually does let herself get captured sometimes for various reasons. The skeletons are called “Dry Bones”. They are burnt Koopas, they can’t normally die, and when stepped on, can reassemble themselves. The cat suit actually comes from a bell, not a mushroom. There are not usually that many Kongs in the games, just Donkey Kong and his group. And they did not invent karts, but Diddy Kong did have his own racing game.

45:08 jumpman is mario from his first games back on the arcade machines, in the donkey kong game he was simply known as jumpman. He was also in wreaking crew, which is also where spike, the man who made fun of him at the beginning, is from he is the foreman and thus mario's old boss. There are so many references in this movie, it is wild, the plot may not be super deep, but it is mario so I mean what did we expect there, but the animation, the music, the feel... they nailed it there. the kongs being the origination of the karts btw is this movie, it may or may not be Nintendo canon now who knows they have always been a little hard to pin down solid facts between games at times, but yea they gave them the karts, a lot of the other references there are from donkey kong country back on the snes btw. donkey's dad, cranky, is the original donkey kong in the games too, just fyi.

If you look at the photos on the wall in the diner you’ll see photos of Mike Tyson Punchout and Duck Hunt. Also the guy playing the arcade in the diner and Mario & Luigi’s father is voiced by the original voice of Mario and Luigi. Originally they didn’t start with an Italian accent but the voice actor gave it to them. 6:01 castle burger is like the castle at the end of Super Mario Bros on the original NES and the sign is like the flag pole. 12:50 two different properties. Love the thought though. That would be an awesome crossover. 23:19 Jack Black co-wrote the song. It’s funny as soon as I heard it I knew he had a hand in it. 25:45 I haven’t watched this in about two weeks and I still have that song in my head. 48:04 well when you can take a pipe between worlds yeah I’d live in the mushroom kingdom and travel back to see family. 49:07 that was the egg at the wedding and it got sucked into the real world with the rest of stuff.

Peach always gets kidnapped because she's not nearly this badass in the games. Even if she were, Bowser is no pushover. In fact, in just about every game in the series, Mario isn't actually strong enough to defeat Bowser directly. Whether it's cutting a bridge so Bowser drops into lava, throwing Bowser into conveniently placed bombs, or baiting Bowser into some sort of environmental hazard, Mario always needs to rely on some sort of outside force to aid his victory. Even the RPGs usually have some sort of gameplay mechanic you need to exploit, or a story-related power-up in order to ultimately defeat him. In a straight one-on-one fight, Mario is not strong enough to win against Bowser.
