The practical effects in this 1982 movie will never be topped...never to be seen again, even today. One of the greatest Sci-fis ever made, story, characters, atmosphere, location, all incredible. That "What If" ending, awesome. Great video, had fun watching, thanks for that. Till the next one, Enjoy.

1. The Norwegian killed himself so The Thing couldn't get to him. 2. Movie magic, The ultimate hand grenade throwing FAIL helicopter had to be taken out. 3. You have to realize that this movie came out long before CGI so there was some very creative practical effects showcased here.🤩🤩 4. Mac's not a murderer. Clark was attacking him with the scalpel. It was self defense. 5. Of everything that went down the part that got me the most was when Blair was dragging Gary by the face. 6. Their fate is left up to the audience. Maybe it's best they all die. 7. Russell wasn't all that happy with that hat. 8. Another Russell/Carpenter product you need to first time/share with us is "Escape from New York".

So many people like this movie because it's a master class in practical special effects. Us old dogs want younger people to watch this stuff so that this art form doesn't just disappear. Thank you for watching this. If you haven't already, check out American Werewolf in London and the Howling. Those movies also have great practical FX.

The Norwegian spoken by the one guy with the rifle at the beginning, actually gives away the film. In Norwegian he is telling them to stay away from the dog, that it's not a dog it's some kind of thing. So for Norwegian movie goers they were told that the dog was not what it appeared to be at the start of the film.

28:33 I've seen this movie many many times since the year it released and it wasn't until just a couple years ago I realized this scene here when the thing reveals its largest mass is kind of the pay-off of near the beginning when Macready lost to Chess Wizard computer and decided to deprive the machine of its victory by destroying it. Now when I see this scene, I imagine the thing saying "Check mate, check mate, check mate." And Macready "wins" by the same basic method. Technically though, the chances that there is no more of the thing left are practically zero. It could have become smaller organisms it's acquired in the past, hiding around the camp as a bunch of separate creatures or even buried little bits of itself here and there. Or then, there are the bits of it here and there such as when Macready blew the boss creature up or earlier in the movie with the stick of dynamite. There was the bit of it that escaped through the dog kennel roof. There's still a whole bunch of possibilities of thing remnants at the Norwegian camp and the ufo crash site. There could yet be other creatures in the ufo itself or that went a different direction out of it over a hundred thousand years ago. Maybe there were other dog things that ran away from the Norwegian camp. And like they said, just a single cell of this thing on this planet is a threat to all life, because it could take everything over. They mentioned there will eventually be rescue parties coming to investigate after a while and can you imagine them not collecting samples once they realize there is a possible extraterrestrial organism to be studied? There is so much sequel potential and I've never understood why we never got sequels. I've had some pretty good nightmares based on this creature that would be great as sequels. Settings in my dreams have included deep underground research base, on a space battleship carrying the thing samples that gets attacked by an enemy warship, moon base, asteroid mining facility... The thing that my nightmares had in common was that thing samples were collected at the American and Norwegian camps and the ufo site and they were treated carefully to get them to a secure facility, but bad things happened later.

Creature features aren't as scary as they once were. If you like jump scares then Scream is a classic 90's movie that is top 10 jump scare worthy.

Out of all the reactions to this movie I've seen I think Jenna would be the most likely to survive. Good instincts! The Thing ripped up MacReadys clothes to frame him since he was in the leadership position. The lights were on in MacReadys shack from one of the things going up there to get some of his clothes. Either Palmer or Blair did it. If you look at the shadow on the wall when the dog was creeping around the base it is Palmer that the dog walked in on. Blair got changed in the shack. It was after he tied the noose but before he could hang himself.

I remember watching this as a kid with my dad when he taped it on VHS- no, Betamax. He covered my eyes for the scary parts, but I always found just the atmosphere so creepy, I love it. I also think it’s one of the most immersive movies, you watch it almost as if you’re another person at that base. For some reason when the guy is telling Mac about how everyone should eat out of separate cans, that really puts me into it. I guess since it’s relatable to our normal lives. Don’t know if you’re into hockey or sports at all, but either way Miracle is a criminally underhyped movie starring Kurt Russell, and he absolutely nailed it.

The ending makes sense, if you are able to put more pieces together. 1. Everyone needs to watch 2-3 times. Make sure you Count how many Individual The Thing’s are around at one time. 2. The Thing likely has assimilated other alien species. I.e. Flying saucer at the beginning. That means it has more intelligence than humans. 3. A lot of young people don’t realize that before 1985 (the beginning of the AIDS/HIV pandemic), people didn’t think of blood being dangerous. Referring to the blood sample scene.
