First Track Day for our F56 Mini GP3 - Feat.

With 400 miles on our GP3 it was time to take it where it really belongs, the track! We headed to Llandow in Wales with Straight 6 Track Days to get our and see what the Mini was really made of.
It'll come as no surprise that it was like a duck to water, but now we know what we want to make improvements on, and can't wait to get some modifications done and get back out there!

Great to see one of these GP minis on track at long last, did not know they had 300bhp out of the box, car looked great on track in standard trim. I recon with a remap, some track-day rubber, and some brake pad that could give the M2 a run for it money.

Great video Imran! Time to add a decent suspension (especially replace the rear struts) to add more compliance, replace the exhaust for an improved soundtrack, and add your Eventuri intake and an intercooler to deal with the overheating of the engine. For me the biggest downfall is the absence of a manual gearbox. I felt bored driving it. It is a MINI! It needs to have a manual. Didn't you ask the dealer for the Hankook track tires that come with the car? Tires from another brand will bring out the horrific suspension even more. The softness of the compound is high with this stock tire, but try a set of Michelins and you spine breaks on the road.

I was curious about that review! I had a 2019 Mini Cooper JCW with a few upgrades that took it to 300hp and I attended a track day on semi slicks at a big F1 GP circuit. Well, while I loved the car on the road, I was not so sure about that on track at high speeds. Turning in a big radius curve at +190km/h, I felt the car was a bit high and leaning more than I would like. Braking hard from 200km/h to 80km/h for a tight corner, the front move from side to side and the rear felt a bit light. So, although the power was adequate and the brakes good, that car really needed some suspension tuning. After that, it would probably improve a lot! Maybe the result would be the “poor man” Mini GP3!

Having had five MINI’s that auto box absolutely kills it for me. The gen one GP with its whine and manual box is a modern classic, these gen 3 cars will be sitting in dealers lots having lost £5k. I’m right I. Thinking he’s not using the paddles to change up or down and makes you less appreciative when you nail the balance of the right gear change.

Have you ever replaced the suspension bushings that go bad in about 40k miles with aftermarket ones? What are the plans to help it from under steering?

This car has 800 miles on so the bushes haven’t gone bad. Uprated bushes work in places where OEM rubber are a weak point. But in general fresh OEM rubber is the best choice for road use. You lose a lot of compliance by going to hard polybushes.

Edward, did You know, that this state of art automatic is fully programmable!? So please, no more that SHIT ’if it just would be manual’. Greetings from an old fart, who would NEVER go back to manual, especially when driving on tracks. One more thing, if You feel that this is not envolving enough, You should not buy a car after production year 1978. I think, that was the year when abs brakes were first time in production car, Mercedes S-class.

@@paulm3395 Wsa testing out how good the GP Mode with S mode on the gearbox was. It worked very intuitively. In Manual mode the gear change is quite slow. It has no seed settings to adjust this so S mode is auto only. Hankook developed the tyre for the GP3 specifically along with a track version called the Ventus TD. Not sure why they were chosen over Michelin.

I had a r53.this is terrible.guess it needs it but the rear wing is ridiculous and them diffusers on the sides are just the worst.gearbox sounds so wooly on changes.m2 composure on track looks so much better.definite pass for me this one.
