We built a 24 x 28 foot homestead in 2011, and we did 9' ceilings as well. It absolutely keeps the place from looking claustrophobic. We also super insulated, and it takes very little to heat or cool the place. Look forward to checking out some more of your videos!

I love the high ceilings, but my dad and husband would definitely argue that it would be too hard to keep heated and cooled. They both hate high ceilings for that reason. I love how they look, though. They do make things so much roomier. Reminds me of the cabin my grandfather built when I was a kid, and I helped him dig holes for fence posts and hammer nails. I was supposed to inherit it, but sadly he remarried and upon her insistence they sold it and moved out west and she got everything when he passed away. She can keep it all. I just wish I had my Papa back.

Really like the cabin. We live in South Mississippi as well. I've been scouting our woods lately look for a good place to put a small off grid camping cabin with my limited carpentry knowledge for us and the grandkids. Just somewhere to go and feel like we're far into the woods.

This is so we'll thought out and such great use of space. That picture window is a beautiful feature and gives you all the outdoor space too, visually. Love the wood system. You could have another bedroom in that storage space. So in 30 some feet you could have a 2 bedroom house plus all that loft space could sleep a lot of kids,plus play space. That's amazing. Nothing seems cramped with the built ins. I love the large porch too.

You did a great job on that cabin it’s just beautiful! we have a wraparound porch as well and it goes around all four sides. The back is amazing because the The way they positioned the house the breeze blows through there almost every day in the summertime. We live in Mississippi too but North Mississippi, it’s super hot here in the summer but I know not as hot as where you live. Enjoy that porch!!!

How far is this divine cabin from your main living space (home) now? It's just beautiful. We had a cabin when I was young, that my Dad built on a half acre on a hillside above a lake. He used a lot of reclaimed/salvaged building materials (big white light fixture from a nearby high school that was being razed. Real wood tongue and groove flooring from an old house that was being torn down. We had a floor to ceiling huge picture window too, like yours here (that too was salvaged, but I can't remember where he got it from). The picture window faced the lake... and the cabin had a 'wrap-around' covered porch that was on 3 sides of the cabin. Extra wide porch in the front, facing the lake, so they could put lounge type chairs to sit in the evening and look at the lake and listen to the bullfrog chorus that was a nightly event. One time our grandparents were up the cabin with us for a weekend, and we ALL slept outside on that porch one hot summer night! (& it wasn't screened or closed-in. Lovely memories. You and Wanda are going to have wonderful memories with this cabin! ❤️

Hi, In your loft are you going to build in at least one drawer in between the studs down the wall at the base of the short walls Or box in between the studs on the short walls and add doors. That would utilize that small area for storage. We did that on an attic we turned into a room. I redid a camper that had a eating booth. I removed the booth and designed and built a fold down table and placed smaller size swivel type real chairs on each side of the table when i let it down. I used what is called piano hinge to were the table hooked to the wall. It gave us a lot more comfortable space in the camper. We built a 16 by 58 foot cabin and found out we had to add on a 12x12 ft room on one side. That meant cutting into the roof to connect the two properly so it didn't look like an after thought. There just wasn't enough space in the 58 feet to have a full size kitchen with a large up right freezer. To accommodate our large furniture, my library, computers and my husband musical instruments. Since the kitchen was on one end and the bedroom and bathroom was on the other we opted for on demand electric water heaters. No water lines running every where. Just a simple cold water line that connected to each water heater. Nice cabin, can't wait to see it finish. You have done a good job.

Danny, Ms Wanda it all looks good. However, may I suggest that you do not lay down tile. From personal experience, and I am just as old as you are, tile when wet is slippery as ice. My wife cleaned the kitchen floor which was tile. I walked in and the next thing I knew I was looking up at the ceiling. I landed on my back because the tile was wet from her mopping the floor and I didn't know it. Something to think about. :-)
@vonnieburt11634 жыл бұрын
I agree about not using tile. Because of MS I fall. We installed padding and a good laminate. So far I have fallen several times and only broken my right wrist. Bad enough as I am right handed and it did not heal. Tile I am terrified of.

First thought - make it easy on yourself - use the space behind the stairs as a closet (hang cloths with a few lower drawers maybe a shelf above. Leave the under bed space for linens and towels. Things you won’t access as often. Great progress 👍🏼

Do you have roofing paper between your subfloor layers? I am having problems with moisture coming up through my floor and wondered if this would help. I had one layer of Advantec tongue and groove, and put down thin lauan and filled the cracks. I think this has helped somewhat but think the roofing paper would have been a great idea.
