Great looking cabin! Solar is a broad subject! There's so many variables in each part of the system. Price, Power & efficiency also plays a big part. Do your research. I watched countless videos, & researched all the parts. And we built the best system for the budget we had at the time. Keep up the good work. Brett

An outside roll down curtain will really help avoid heat gain in the bedroom in the summer .also you could create a lattice work shade shelter for the hot weather that could come down in the winter and wild weather aAnthis could work asoutdoor patio to make an energy envelope to cool the house

Did you have to get any inspections, like electrical or plumbing rough in and can you plant any shrubs or something on the sunny side of the cabin to take on some of the heat, something that drops leaves in the winter so that you catch the sun on cold days?

Any way you can give a final cost estimate for people who may want to build something very similar to yours? Also, the manufacturers or dealers that you found had the best materials and best price. You've likely inspired quite a few people who have been seriously considering doing this.
@ronsmith13645 жыл бұрын
usb rechargeable headlamps & rechargeable AA lamp batteries from ikea in the absolute areas. Is the flue pipe double walled? Can it be retrofitted? RMH or masonry sides to capture heat from the fireplace. Perhaps a greenhouse on that eastern side with annual vines shading during the growing season and then passive solar capture of heated greenhouse air in winter. BOL

As to LED compared to conventional lighting it is expensive over conventional but longer lasting but they do go on the fritz now and then. If you see it flashing it is usually just 1 of LED's going bad, meaning you still have multiples that are good beneath that outer cover. If you have an old cell phone charger cable? Or computer, strip out one thin wire buy black non electrical current carrying calling. Outer cover comes off easily usually tiny bit of glue inside an old thin bladed spud or paring knife blade will remove. HEAT IS LED KILLER! THERE IS FAR MORE LIGHT WITHOUT THAT BULBOUS COVER. YOU ARE NOT GOING TO REPLACE BAD LED JUST BYPASS IT USING THAT THIN PHONE CABLE WIRE. 5 BUCKS SAVED IS 5 BUCKS ONE CAN USE ELSEWHERE.. My under cabinet El cheapo light 5 LED with outcover is very bright. Repair time under 15 minutes= $20 an hour wage.
