That mop is actually called a Nenette Mop. I know 'cos as a nipper, I found it (complete with tin covering) hidden in the cupboard under the stairs. The cupboard was turned into a larder to make things easier in small kitchen in the 60's.

Wow! Great effort there, Clare. That little car is looking MUCH better for your ministrations - and I'm sure if it could talk it would say a huge thankyou! Figured the seats wouldn't come all the way back (sadly), but it's great to see that the typical malady of the A30 - the gradual disappearance of a floor pan - hasn't been the case here. The biggest problem (besides getting her little engine to turn over again will be to beat that driver's rear guard back out. Fortunately, the A30 is made of some truly heavy steel and will take a serious pounding with large hammers. Many moons ago, my aunt pulled out of a side street in my grandparents' A30 and didn't see the car that was flying along until it embedded itself in the right front wing and pushed it hard against the inner wing and radiator panel. Dad pulled the wing off and "for fun", decided to belt it with a four pound club hammer and a length of 4x2" timber and see if he could straighten it out to anything like it had been. After about 10 minutes, the wing was in a rough outline of its former shape and within half an hour, he had swapped the big hammer for a ballpein and eventually he traded down to the hammer and dolly stage for a while. After two hours, the wing was pretty damn close and looked nothing like the twisted and useless piece of metal that it had been. In the end, it looked so much better than the wing Dad had found as a replacement, so he put the original back on instead. I reckon that right rear will come out fairly easy, but you will need to be more brutal with it than you may think to get it to move. Man, it's a straight and relatively rust-free little car - a great start for a sympathetic restoration.......so I'm quit jealous! Awesome effort - she's looking good and I look forward to seeing it progress. How's the little green one going now? Also, have you been out much in the black one at all? One last - Barn Dust is only a good look in auction houses. NOBODY would have it on display in a museum or as part of their collection like that, would they? Anyone who would buy the little car to restore would want to see what's under the crud in order to know what condition it was in and what it needs. Totally agree with cleaning it up. All the best

I do like watching you guys . I have to say you're just so "British" and charming. And I was thinking we do like to call our cars, him or her. That proves that they do have character. And non more so than the Austin A30/35, a design icon. And they should reintroduce them in a modern realisation, like they did the mini...

Looking quite good and there doesn't appear to be too much rust, which is great. The interior is amazingly different, congrats on all the hard work and having water spraying around in such cold weather couldn't have been much fun. The other important thing that happened in 1966 was that Australia converted to decimal currency on the 14th of February. 2 shillings became 20 cents, 1 shilling became 10 cents and the 10 shilling note became the 1 Dollar note. The 1 pound note became the 2 Dollar note and so on. The 1 Dollar and 2 Dollar notes have since become coins. That's some boring trivia and absolutely nothing to do with Austin A30s 😄

The 50p piece was introduced in 1969, before decimalisation in 1971. It replaced the 10 shilling note. The 10p and 5p were introduced in 1969 as well, to (gradually) replace the two shilling piece and shilling. So we had three brand new decimal coins while we still used £sd.

In the 70`s I had two A 35 VANS and a A30 car. wonderful little Graunchers. One van I had, cost me £25 , drove it for a year trouble free , insurance £11. sold it for £35. the car cost me £15, and I think the other van cost me about £25 , The only problem was when the mist came down, but ten mins. in the RAYBURN with the door open, that dried the distributer cap out and away she would go. I loved them.
@chrisaris87569 ай бұрын
Hi again. I thought you said the car was a 1955? In which case the glass is newer than the car!! I certainly believe it is a 55 as (I’ve mentioned this before) I had a 1955 Morris Oxford reg 14 BPC and whilst plates of that vintage weren’t strictly age related I wouldn’t have thought there was that much time between 14 and 31 BPC. It looks so much better for a wash!!
