First Wonder Woman Reacts To Her Character's Costume in New Movie

Before Lynda Carter, TV had another Wonder Woman, Cathy Lee Crosby. She starred in the highly rated 1974 TV movie, Wonder Woman. The success of the TV movie led to the popular series starring Carter, who had a much sexier costume. Crosby was nearly speechless seeing her character's costume in the 2016 film, "Batman V. A bit of misinformation in this Inside Edition piece. The 1974 TV movie did okay in the ratings, but ABC passed on a series. In 1975, another attempt was made with Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman. This new TV movie was called "The New, Original Wonder Woman" to distance it from the 1974 movie. Lynda's version was a huge hit, which made ABC decide to do a series.

I actually like the concept of Cathy Lee Crosby's more human Wonder Woman. The Wonder Woman portrayed by Cathy Lee had no superhuman abilities. She was an Amazon, but was simply very athletic, smart and resourceful, and had gymnastic skills. She couldn't deflect bullets or fly or lift cars up. The 1974 movie, starring Cathy Lee, was pretty cheesy and not well executed, but I would love to see a well done version of Wonder Woman without anything magical or supernatural.

DC Comics had taken away Wonder Woman's powers in the late 60s to make her more like "Mrs.Peel" in the "Avengers" T.V. series and Kathy Lee's T.V. movie reflected this.

@ Ken Rozmislowicz. Let's be honest! Cathy Lee Crosby still looks very good in her 70's , but she is not as beautiful as she was in 1974 in her prime of physical beauty! Just look at Raquel Welch. She still looks very attractive but is nowhere near as magnificently beautiful as she was at the very peak of her beauty in 1984 when she was 40 years old! Women reach their absolute peak of physical beauty when they turn 40! Cathy Lee was at her peak of beauty when she appeared in magazines in the Lipton Tea advertisement in the late 1970's or early-to-mid-1980's.

Kathy Lee played a version which combined elements of the original Wonder Woman with the Depowered\"Emma Peel like" version who appeared in the comics in the late 60s! I saw the "original" Diana in the SUPER FRIENDS so I knew Kathy Lee wasn't playing the REAL Wonder Woman!

I got your pun. Good one! I remember watching That's Incredible on Saturday(?) nights when I was a kid. Crosby and Fran Tarkenton and another guy. I was more surprised to hear the Inside Edition reporter say that neither of the two TV Wonder Woman costumes were as "provocative" as the BvS version. Really? Linda Carter was always seemingly on the verge of a wardrobe malfunction plus her hot pants she was wearing. BvS's costume was much more appropriate in my opinion.

I do have vague memories of her tv movie, which confused my ickle self because I saw it after the WW tv series with Lynda Carter started. didn't think of it much other than maybe it's Supergirl trying to be WonderWoman (ickle logic 😁). guess she didn't have much to say about Gal's costume if all you showed was "Oh" . also Gal's costume was **hardly** provocative. Many complained that Gadot's costume made her look more like Xena warrior princess than Wonder Woman. Maybe she thought the same thing. After all both she and Lynda wore red white and blue.

THIS TV movie version did NOT lead to the TV series. ABC aired a different Wonder Woman movie the following year with Linda Carter - THAT one was successful and that movie led to the series, not this movie. I question where Inside Edition gets their information.

Crosby's TV movie didn't bomb. It did well, which gave the green light to the more comic book faithful Lynda Carter series. The Crosby movie was in production when Wonder Woman was a de-powered kung fu Diana Prince in her comic book, and she wore 'mod' style clothing (hence Crosby's outfit). But by the time it aired, Wonder Woman had her powers and original costume back, so the show was changed to reflect that.

You actually don't know what you're talking about. Making things up in your head doesn't make them true. The Crosby movie did bomb big time, and it certainly wasn't a green-light for Carter's series. The Crosby movie was a pilot for a potential series, yes, but because the ratings were bad ABC passed on it. Warner Bros. and ABC later developed the Carter series as a separate entity. It had nothing whatsoever to do with the Crosby movie. They had concerns the series would suffer if audiences confused it with the movie, so they deliberately called it "The New Original Wonder Woman" to distance it even further. The only thing the Crosby movie and Carter's first season had in common is they were both broadcast on the ABC network - that's it. As for your rant regarding the modern '70s comic books. It had no bearing at all on Carter's series as the plan was always to film it during the second World War, which is when the birth of the comic took place. In future, I would suggest checking your facts before commenting on something you know absolutely nothing about.

Ratings were described as "respectable but not exactly wondrous". In other words: IT DID NOT BOMB! Also as to "checking your facts": Wonder Woman was depowered in the comics in 1968, that's 5 years prior to the Cathy Lee Crosby version, and she was restored to her previous super powered version and costume in January of 1973 so no, it wasn't during production as you stated. By the time this film began production the comic book version had been restored to her previous glory. I think perhaps you should "check your facts" first before pointing finger at others.

Yes indeed- I can also remember this playing on and off concurrently with the Lynda Carter series and being completely and utterly confused as a little kid.. (My dad eventually explained Kathy Lee Crosby wasnt a blond Lynda Carter but the original one) I was like huh? But regardless, KLC set the stage for what would be a very successful series for Lynda Carter. I also enjoy the evolution of the two actresses series. Apparently the guy who invented the lie detector machine also was the same one responsible for Wonder Woman? Charles Moulton?

I saw this in '74 when I was a teenager. Two Star Trek (original series) alums created this pilot: Vince McEveety directed and John D. F. Black wrote the script, so it had a feminist feel to it. She was a strong, smart Wonder Woman who kicked butt -- the movie was not as good as she was. Sadly, it was kinda boring (typical of 70's TV movies) and I couldn't really get over a blonde, blue-eyed Diana Prince.

Cathy Lee Crosby's version was loosely based off of a time in the comics where Wonder Woman lost her powers and just depended on her physical skills (ie. martial arts). She was more in the line of Emma Peel from the popular Avengers show at the time, which is why you saw the white jumpsuit. Diana dressed a lot like Emma Peel during this time until Gloria Steinem made a big stink and petitioned for Wonder Woman to get her powers back.

I watched this movie when I was I kid, I have been a comic book collector all my life, that being said, this version of Wonder Woman is like when you read a book and then you watch the movie based on the book, and is a total heresy, it's so far off from the original comic book that I got really disappointed, maybe for some people that never follow the comic book is an okay spy movie but for the comic book fans it's terrible, an insult to Charles Moulton.

Lynda Carter was the best Wonder Woman and had the best costumes. Gal's costume was not colorful not enough red, blue and no white. Gals costume was lack luster and as one said she was dressed like Xena warrior princess not Wonder Woman. Although she is a good wonder woman not the best wonder woman. Crosby was a good wonder woman for her time. I liked her. They did not have special effects in those days like today. So the movie was good for it's time.

Well, if you really look at it, Xena's costume actually took from Wonder Woman (the bracelets, the chestplate, and the Chakre on her waist was very Wonder Woman-like). The costume you see in the movie is actually based off the 52 version of her outfit.

Yes once in a while they do change her costume true. They even gave her short hair once in the comic book that did not work out well for them. Yet the red white and blue is the most popular and most used. How often do you see the 52 version really? It would probably be good in an appearance if she were at a ceremony. Something that is not worn all the time. Just like when Lynda Carter uses her costume then changes to a costume with a little skirt and a cape or a swimming outfit. There is still the basic most recognizable to her character that they did not put on the back burner.

Agreed, but, as you said somewhere on this thread, they're trying to tone down the "American" influence of the character and paying more respects to her Greek amazonian heritage instead.
