Diagnosing and Replacing a bad HVAC Blower in the squarebody C10

To address this issue, you'll need basic tools - a screwdriver, socket driver, and a 9/32" socket. Careful handling is crucial as the sheet metal screws aren't ultra-tight, and overtightening could strip the holes.

The blower motor is typically found on the passenger side of the firewall. In this case, we're working on a 1987 Chevrolet R10 two-wheel-drive pickup truck.

You can hear the problematic blower motor when turning on the ignition - a faint howling that indicates metal-to-metal contact due to the seized bushing.

1. Remove the screws securing the blower motor housing.
2. Carefully maneuver and lift out the old blower motor.
3. Clean the blower motor box to remove any accumulated debris.

When ordering a replacement motor, consider whether to purchase it with or without the squirrel cage (fan). Opt for the cage to avoid issues with brittle plastic. Additionally, check the mounting mechanism for the fan, whether it's a spline shaft or a D shaft with a nut.

1. Attach the new motor with the purple power wire on the straight spade.
2. Securely fasten the ground wire.
3. Align the motor using locating studs.
4. Reinstall the five screws.
