I am Italian and i can confirm that the main problem is not only the lack of trust towards the youngs but also towards everything new. We have a saying: "cavallo che vince non si cambia" (you don't change the winning horse), not only the businneses apply safe tattics that worked in the past, but the governement does that too. The tipical italian doesn't trust the "new" and thus it doesn't trust who represent the new. Also there is a toxic working enviroment with workdays with more than 40h a week and less pay, this is due to the wrong belief that the employee must be grateful to the employer because he was kind enough to give the worker a job and he shouldn't dare asking for a raise. That is the reason why youngs go away, but to the old people "they just do not want to work" because "At ThEiR aGe, LiFe WaS hArDeR" (even if much of the old people now, lived the economic boom of the 60s...) Basically our main problem is old people at power beliving their way is the ONLY way and the youngs are wrong simply because the old's way proved (many many many years ago) that works.

Simply the tax burden is too high as there are too many people on pension or benefits awarded in 80s and 90s, where the system was too generous to say the least. Also life expectancy grows to the point that baby boomers might get to 100 years, whilst most of them retired at barely 60. It is a system that's doomed to fail.

The scenario is the same across all over the world. Because of globalization, employees/workers need to compete from all over the world. Capital is allowed to move freely, but people are not. The monetary policies from central bank which resort to unlimited money spending, rather than allowing the free market to take its own course, means asset prices keep growing up, Inflation keeps going up and while wages are stagnated are going down. The huge population of India is preventing this collapse, because of the labor movement, consumer spending and still many in our country believe hard work leads to success.

While i agree with your comment, there are aspects that make the situation better or worse for some countries. Italy is in a steady demographic decline that creates a compound effect: less young skilled workers -> more of the state budget goes to pay pensions -> less room for investment on education/healthcare/infrastructure -> less young skilled workers. In the meantime there is a huge housing crisis (also driven by cheap tourism that is taking away slices of gdp from high quality manufacturing) and a precarization of labour that makes impossible for young couples to plan to have a family. As more the country gets poorer, the more young skilled people decide to go abroad, leaving in the country only less educated and economically disadvantaged people. Take all of this an multiply it by x3 for the south of the country, that is becoming literally a desert, hence reducing the economic potential of the entire country There would be a way to break the cycle, that is accepting and integrating immigrants and set them up for entering the labour force (not as literally slaves as it happens now), but guess what? Italians don't want it!!! The situation is dire and even irreversibile, because the people that are currently in the country are not really bothered by all this mess....if you are (= you don't belong to that minority that is able to protect their old money and privileges) you just pack up and it's not your business anymore Some people indicate the current far right government (as well as previous fake-left governments) as the cause of all evil but they're actually an effect of a country that is preparing itself to go back to the second world

I'm 21, Italian, and make just over 100.000€ / yr as a freelancer. I moved to Poland because my girlfriend is polish and for tax reasons as well. If you make 100.000€ / yr in italy, 50-67% of that GOES to TAXES. Do you know how fucking insane is that? You work so much as a freelance / entrepreneur, and the State comes along and says "nice, i'm gonna take 50+ % of it and there's nothing you can do about it". And for what? Streets are just messed up, cities are dirty, grocery shopping and housing has become expensive as fuck, theres a lot of crime especially in big cities like Rome or Milan, healthcare is a fucking joke and public transport sucks. Don't even get me started on the insane bureaucracy, corrupted old politicians that just can't resonate with the youth, low wages you cant live off of, and so on. It's absolutely terrible, and the worst thing is that Italy is romanticized on social media for "la dolce vita", the food and "oh but I'll miss my family and friends" as if you cant find all of these things in other countries as well. I'm telling you, if you don't leave italy as a young man / woman because of those reasons, you're a moron. Have you noticed that basically nobody that has a bit of brain dreams of moving to italy? There are better countries than Italy. You just don't travel enough / don't have a passport to see what the rest of the world has to offer. Why does the swing to the right always get reported as 'Far Right', coming across as something sinister and detrimental for Europe? When everything you state the worst policies for the Europeans themselves, was ushered in by the likes of Tony Blair and Angela Merkle. These disastrous decisions just doubled down continuing to prioritise everything else but their own citizens needs by Macron, Stamer, Von Der Leyen, etc. Encouraging and supporting an unwinnable war in Ukraine, sending hundreds of thousands of men to their death so as to enrich an elitist few With billions of taxpayers money handed over to drive the destruction plus death with military equipment, arms and ammunition plus all the extras that go with it. All the while allowing into their united countries millions of mainly males from an entirely different culture whom are treated with kid gloves, shown leniency and have a softer set of rules apply to them. The politicians have failed miserably being so out of touch and unaware it boggles the brain. They've allowed Europe to be taken over by Arabs whom are having all the children and by 2050 all will be an Islamic State, Sharia Law will be imposed. The USA narrowly dodged a similar fate this time the WEF working its way into most Western cabinets. Trump has thrown a spanner in the works lets us hope that he can lead America away from the brink of destruction. Italy is part of the EU and if Italians go to other EU countries, it is not an exodus. The meaning of the EU, apart from diminishing the importance of national borders in order to prevent eternal wars on the European continent, was exactly the freedom of movement. Economic conditions are constantly changing from better to worse (and vice versa) and these are the main reasons for temporary emigration. Trends change. Eastern European and Mediterranean countries like Italy have always been a source of labor in more developed economies. Eastern Europe has reversed that trend and now the traditionally immigrant countries have become the ones to which other people immigrate. The problem with Italy, and as it seems to me with Spain and Greece too, is partly the economic situation and the lack of opportunities for an educated local population, but I think the bigger problem is the total loss of national identity, frustration and general growth of insecurity. What are the reasons for these three criteria, judge for yourself.
@Alexander-rr6yn
@Alexander-rr6yn 6 күн бұрын
Well there are few countries more developed than Italy in Europe. We are the 3º economy of the continent, on the richer half in terms of gdp per capita ppp, 1º in Europe for private wealth. Northern Italy is probably the most industrialized area in the whole continent. I might be biased because I’m Italian but stats don’t lie. I wouldn’t put Italy in the same category as Eastern Europe or other southern European countries.
@boogeyman4937
@boogeyman4937 6 күн бұрын
@@Alexander-rr6yn I mentioned Eastern Europe only as an example that trends are changing and that this situation with Italy may not be as dramatic as the video tries to show. What is dramatic are the social changes caused by low birth rates and insane, uncontrolled (illegal) immigration. On the other hand, maybe you should check the economic data for Eastern Europe. Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Estonia, measured by GDP p/c, are already approximately at the level of Italy, and several other countries (Poland, Croatia, even Romania) have been recording significantly higher economic growth than all Western European countries, including Italy, for years. Of course, the base in these countries is also smaller, so it is easier for them to record such growth, but what is most important in this comparison and why I mention it, is exactly the reverse trend. Italy is still richer than these countries, but people from Italy are moving out, while they are returning to the countries of Eastern Europe. The difference is in the feeling of development (growth) and the feeling of stagnation. Italians won't move to Poland or Slovenia, they'll move to Germany or Scandinavia. The problem is that they'll encounter the same things there that made them leave Italy, and then they'll realize that the reasons for leaving may not have been economic at all.

Socially Italians are very classist, you are either with me or against me, so if you aren't born in the right families you are emarginated. 100% correct Gaia. I was born and raised in Canada, Italian father. He wanted to move back to Rome. He did not tell me how the situation was and there was no internet in the early '90's, so I didn't know anything about Italy. Well, my dad ended up literally "begging" someone for a job, he was only 46, but considered "too old to work".. we lost at least 70% of all our money, the house we sold, etc. Finally he gets a part-time job for 2 cents, and only with a "connection". So i leave University to help the family, and work in the airport, the pay was ok at the time, but treated like a slave. No holidays for 2 years! A lot of Italians are leaving for Lugano Switzerland (the italian part), Germany, US, UK, anywhere that pays more, etc. You cannot believe that in Italy, doctors are paid 3500 dollars. The minimum wage is like 1500. But many make less than 1000 dollars a month. if they (doctors)work in Switzerland, they earn like 7000 dollars or more. Some doctors i know do not make ends meet in Italy. I lived and worked in Emilia-Romagna in 🇮🇹 and visited the South a lot of time. You can't believe the poverty i saw. The population is mainly old. In general, many of them are racists and out of touch with the world. In their ignorance, they think they own the world. However, they still have good people who work in public places like the Questura, postitalia, restaurante etc. The food is good and the country is an open museum and good for tourism if you are interested anyway. They are talking about why YOUTHS leave Italy in this video, not about addicts or mentally ill people like the homeless people in LA. I moved to LA after spending my whole life in Rome and working in Milano, Milano has the highest salaries in Italy despite that it's 1. VERY difficult for young people to find good jobs in Italy 2. Very low paycheck in Italy 3. Even if it's cheaper, the paychecks doesn't make up to the cost of living anyway. 4. Now I talk about Milano, go try to find a job in the South.... I live in LA now, the majority of people here don't live on the streets unless they are addicts and mentally ill. Most people with any work earn more than people with what is considered a very good job in Italy. I work for the same company, in the same industry and same role in the US as I did in Italy and I earn more than 4 times more per year than I did in Milano, which means even if it's more expensive, I can still afford a lot more, especially when I travel back home. If I still worked in Italy I would struggle to afford traveling anywhere abroad because everywhere feels expensive. Now when I travel anywhere in Europe it feels like I am super rich, which makes a HUGE difference compared to when working in Italy even in a high paid field like the Tech industry. I understand it's not for everyone to leave their country and money is not everything in life, but for many young people like me the opportunities and salaries are so much more abroad so it's worth the pain of being away from home for a few years instead of living with your parents forever.

I love Italy, lived there for a while and wanted to move there from UK. But unless you have wealth already it’s a risky prospect. I’m considering Spain instead as at least there are jobs.

People at the Top keep getting richer at the expense of common people. It is more or less the same everywhere nowadays. Inflation is high and jobs are challenging to get.

Numbers don’t reflect the truth. Most of these young Italians are from the south. Actually more young Italians used to move from southern Italy to northern italy, today is easier for them to go abroad but most of them come back to northern italy when they’re settled

As an Italian I can tell you Italy has always had people leave, only actually less than most 1st world countries statistically. It's nothing exceptional or new. Italians have always been travellers and curious. Also, Italy has almost near nothing in remittance money sent back to Italy, though it surely could. Interestingly, India leads that with $125 Billion sent from other countries to India Per Year. Mexico 2nd at $67 Billion, China $50 B, Philippines $40 B, France $34 B, Germany $21 Billion. So I can surely state it hasn't anything to do with financial matters in the least.

That's because italy has a smaller population and less young people compared to the other countries (usually it's the younger people who send money back). Italy is going downhill

Singapore doesn't have a minimum wage either and they are among the richest countries in the world. Minimum wages price the poor and low skilled out of a job. People just don't think this through, which is foolish. Australia learned this the hard way.
