I get it, but I can name a dozen guys off the top of my head that were taken in the 1st round and couldn’t play QB to save their souls. The draft is a crapshoot. In fact, the Niners offloaded a first-round QB to make room for Purdy, and other former first-rounder, Sam Darnold, couldn’t beat him out. Purdy isn’t Mahomes, Allen or Jackson, but he’s better than Nick gives him credit for.

It is possible that Gray could improve significantly this year. He was injured last year. He may have paid attention when he was on the bench. He has elite speed. He could be a legitimate deep threat. I would like to see him ascend to be a great route runner and a great pass catcher. He would probably not be the blocker than Aiyuk was. But he could improve over the season. They have other guys that are fast too (at least one other).
