Rather than say “lol Brou cooked Nick” I’m going to try to sort out the disagreement and say why I think Brou was right. After all the yelling Nick implicitly admitted he was wrong to bring up the comparisons with great QB rookie seasons. His point is that other rookies would do about as badly in Caleb’s situation as Caleb has. And I think Brou showed he is wrong because Caleb is inaccurate and holds onto the ball, and everyone agrees Bears have at least solid talent. Caleb has flaws that you can’t just say “well it’s coaching and a bad team” and is not in an objectively terrible spot.

I strongly detest the idea argument that because Manning threw a lot of interceptions his rookie year and had a 3-13 record that it suddenly means Caleb will have a similar career path is a pretty bad argument. @@jrcrit8843 The problem with the comment "Peyton Manning struggled as a rookie" is that it doesn't consider the era in which he played. Manning was first in the NFL in passing attempts, second in completions, third in passing yards, fifth in touchdown passes and fifth in passing yards per game. The only reason his name comes up is because of the interceptions, but again there is no context to all the rule changes that have helped quarterbacks and wide receivers shortly after Manning entered the NFL.

I mean, I was told Caleb was coming into the greatest situation a Rookie QB has ever had, pretty sure it was people on this very show. So yes Nick, the QB that was declared a top 10 QB before he had one snap in professional football is held to a higher standard.
@mattcarberry36815 сағат бұрын
well generally a #1 overall pick QB doesn't go to a team that was almost 500 before, so yeah it's not like that was some wild outrageous take and the o-line played really well in the 2nd half last season so that gave people hope they would at least be average this year which obviously wasn't the case, and everyone clearly underestimated the general incompetence of that coaching staff/ownership... Caleb has a LOT to learn as any rookie does, and who is there to teach him? who is there for him to learn from in the QB room, Tyson Bagent??? the desperation people have to trash kids after one season these days is just wild

Seeing Caleb play last night was difficult to watch. Plays the NFL like Johnny Manziel tried to. He’s much more athletic so he makes great plays and gets out of tough situations. But it’s chaos every snap. Could be the O-line partly, but it’s on him too

Sam Howell 6'1" 220 lbs | Caleb Williams 6'1" 215 lbs. Here are some other numbers that show similarities. Sam Howell 2023 season stats: Passing Yards 3,946 / Yds/Pass 6.4 / Rating 78.9 / Sacks 65 / Lost Sack Yds 449 / 6 games with 300 yards passing Caleb Williams Passing Yards 3,393 / Yds/Pass 6.4 / Rating 87.4 / Sacks 67 / Lost Sack Yds 459 / 4 games with 300 yards passing Both hold the ball too long, take sacks and do not play on time/schedule in structure of offense. Both excel at off schedule running around and find open receiver but the NFL that will not work. At the NFL level everyone is fast if not faster than either of them.

Wildes and Brou are 100% right. While I’ll give Caleb a pass in his first year seeing as he had a nightmare of a head coach and it’s his rookie year. That said, it is patently absurd to say that Caleb “had a good first year”, considering all the weapons he had available to throw to and the team’s overall defensive strength.

Joe Burrow was drafted into a bengals team that was the reason they had the #1 pick and was terrible. Caleb was drafted #1 because the Bears held the Panthers pick and everyone in the media said that the 2024 Bears team is stacked and the best ever team for a #1 overall pick to come into..
@xionxxx335915 сағат бұрын
Who cares they both were still #1 picks. Plus anyone that thought the bears were stacked were fools because the haven’t had an offensive line for at least 3 plus seasons or more.
@El-hefe_15 сағат бұрын
@ anyone with a brain cares about the difference in the quality of team that drafts #1 overall because they are the worst team the previous season vs picking #1 overall because of a trade from the previous draft.. The NFL media was all over the Bears.. Caleb sucks and is worst than Bryce tbh. If a defence holds a team to 6 and they only score 3 then it’s 100% on the the QB.

It wasn't just Manning. Josh Allen, John Elway, Troy Aikman, Jard Goff, Terry Bradshaw all really struggled in their rookie years. Most rookies struggle.
@michaeljohnson794512 сағат бұрын
The problem with the comment "Peyton Manning struggled as a rookie" is that it doesn't consider the era in which he played.

Nick completely lost me with this coping display. Bro’s acting like he wasn’t one of the main pundits setting the ridiculously high expectations for Caleb. I love Nick but his Caleb hype and lack of acknowledgement of his role in boosting him, has kind of dinged him as a pundit in my eyes. He needs to just take the L like a man and say that his expectations were too high for him instead of trying to justify himself to the fans. It’s really cringe.
@burnerbill737212 сағат бұрын
