There were a few no-noes too. Actors shouldn't always "take risks" or "make bold choices" in their portrayals. Good acting is about self-control, the results of which should be effortlessly immersive, the audience shouldn't have to do the work to believe in the character. Also, arguing with your director and writers over details of back story is very bad policy, no-one cares about the actor's method, you might get away with it if you're a Hollywood star, if not you'll probably lose work.
@DangerousLee2 жыл бұрын
Exactly what I told my daughter who is currently an Drama student at NYU!
@V_4_Versace2 жыл бұрын
@@BoojayDeeth it may be an industry no-no but I still think she is exactly right. She is absolutely making the characters better and more dynamic by taking those risks and critiquing the writers and directors. And I’m sure she knows they are no-noes too the way she prefaced them by saying “I think” and “in my opinion” because even though she knows that’s the best way to get a good character, obviously it’s not always going to be welcomed. But it is so refreshing to a Black person and a woman be able to speak into those industries and ask for what she needs and be given the tools to make award winning work. I truly think if more actors afforded that opportunity, the caliber of movies and tv would be a lot better, but unfortunately it’s mostly about the bottom line and just churning out content no matter how garbage the role or portrayal is these days.

Wow, I am blown away. This just instantly became one of my favorite Hot Ones interviews of all time (right up there with Paul Rudd). Viola's answers are so fluid, she answers Sean's questions so naturally and so casually, but without being cavalier. I was glued to my screen the whole time because her answers were just so genuine, and genuinely interesting. I thought I was a good communicator, but I just witnessed what real communication looks like. She offers so many important details in each of her responses and she does it just so effortlessly, it was immensely satisfying to watch. And her answer for Sean's last question was just so amazing and perfect. I loved hearing her thoughts and opinions on the entertainment industry, and also how things operate behind the scenes. But most importantly I really feel like I truly learned something from her last answer. I'm going to have to remind myself to periodically check back at 22:13, especially when life gets heavy, to remind myself about the journey.

I have been watching HOT ONES for years and this might be my favourite episode of all time. Viola Davis' quick witted replies to Sean Evan's thoughtful (and atypical to cliche) questions - fantastic rapport. Viola you are articulate and hysterically funny at the same time. Viola Davis is the first guest I have seen on the show that genuinely enjoyed the process of eating the wings. This was an episode that I did not want to end.
