When I ran with the Box-4 Fire Buffs in Dallas (1980's), SOP was first in, Deck gun, second in gets the plug. Unless...radio traffic "Pull up your boots and bring your water with you". Then everybody that could caught a plug. I remember before I became a volunteer Fire fighter, still a kid, I rode my bicycle to a 4-11 apartment fire 10 miles away and seeing two pumpers drafting out of the swimming pool. That was back before Houston ran enough 50 and 60 inch water mains so there was plenty of water. Another one, late 70's apartment fire, common attic, a block away there was one lone 1950's vintage Mack pumper, connected to the steamer outlet of a plug that had been hit by a car. Another pumper dropped 2- 21/2's off the side outlets(before the days of LDH). Mack pumper was pumping out all 4 of his 2 1/2 outlets...and driver made a comment that he was supplying 1/3 of all the water going on the fire and he still had 60lbs of static pressure on the main. Didn't make sense at the time, but I later found out the city had a 60" going west and a different 60" going north from the freeway. Now days, since that area has "grown up" the city has the 60" which was replaced about 10 years ago and added a pair of 48 inch mains down the same street. @PhillipRhodes3 жыл бұрын
Here's what gets me (not necessarily about this specific video, but rather in general) - most of the time, we get one angle, which shows maybe 120 degrees of visibility at best, with NO real visibility into what's going on through the vast majority of the fire ground, coupled with miscellaneous jump cuts which make it impossible to know how the video time corresponds to actual chronological time on scene, we usually know nothing about the specific department's policies, staffing, response times for mutual aid units, etc., etc., etc. So despite knowing a little bit about maybe 4 or 5 variables out of about 200 that affect the outcomes, the armchair quarterbacks instantly assume they know everything about what's going on, and proceed to pass judgment about what they see. It's quite ridiculous, frankly.
@louisc.gasper75883 жыл бұрын
@@PhillipRhodes Oh, come on, now. Don't you know that a single KZbin video captures everything? And don't you know that anyone can analyze a fire from that video and reconstruct all variables? The fact, discovered after the fire, that it was probably arson couldn't have anything to do with the progress of the fire, could it? The comment that says they should have gone inside to be more effective in knocking down the fire is surely right -- even though the second floor of this house collapsed and would have killed anyone inside. All sarcasm aside, the commenters who have actually worked in boots and a helmet may have some excuse for critiquing the firefighters, but even they seem to me too often to lack measure and caution in their comments.

Leaving something on the stove, making meth, forgetting to turn off a space heater, Christmas tree not watered, a kid leaving a curling iron on the bed without unplugging it, leaving without extinguishing a candle, using gasoline or other flammable liquids in the home and many other reasons.

That is what is known as a "loser" fire. No hope of saving it. And like some have commented, one hose, and the guy almost caused it to explode at 4:43 by shutting it down too fast. On fire hoses, you open the nozzle valve fast, close it slowly. I wonder if they ever got the garage doors cut open?

Why is it when any video like this is shown whether its from the USA , UK or any other part of the world, people have to be so critical and vile to each other!!! Every fire department has its own skills and ways of dealing with these fires , im sure these firefighters wherever they are in the world do their best while risking their own lives after going through continuous ongoing training, just for other people and fire departments from around the world to slate them and put them down. Those who do just that need to get a grip and remember that sometime in these firefighters careers, theyve saved someones life! , someones property!, and someones child!!! So stop being self rightous and just appreciate that they are there doing a job that not many people can do, cus one day you may need them!! Its just sickening to read these negative comments!!!
