"Never analyse blitz games" - Daniel King - Analyses a whole blitz tournament Well, I'm not complaining.

I definitely get value out of these blitz games. Especially from his explanations on the psychology behind moves that look natural but are mistakes (that you probably wouldn't see in a classic game). I often find myself over relying on bad intuition during time crunches.

It was not at all always like this. In the sixties Fischer was already very strong, but Donner writes in ´The King´ that Petrosian was the best blitz player, and that Bobby would crush everybody, except the Tigran the Great. He also writes how this frustrated the American mightily, and how Petrosian would wave his hand over the board like some magician.

Thank you for the videos on the entire Fischer blitz series! I dare say though that Fischer's play in this particular game was sub-par (by his own standard!)
@PowerPlayChess6 жыл бұрын
I hear what you are saying, but I think it is very difficult to judge performance in a blitz game without seeing the effect of speed of play. By all accounts Bobby simply played very quickly - maybe not always the best moves, but moves with a plan - and when presented with a chance to take the initiative he grabbed it and smashed it.

Good game by Ivkov, but when Fischer moves so fast it pysches you out and puts a lot of pressure on you. A lot of games in the tourney were 'squeakers' where Fischer was lucky to win, but again, his fast moving is a big reason for that

Mr King, I enjoy your analysis of games. I would like to see your opinion on the following games: r. byrne-fischer u.s. championship 1963-64 that won a brilliancy prize. And the three games that are part of the argentinian massacre in which spassky, keres and geller routed najdorf, panno and pilnik. And spassky-korchnoy from the 1968 candidates

Even though I have always been a great fan of Fischer, it's a shame Ivkov went astray so easily. Personally I didn't think 26.....Rc8 was hard to find at all. It was the second move I instinctively saw Bc5 being the first. Indeed after 26.....Rc8 to my eye this gives Black a fairly clear advantage. As a result, wouldn't Fischer have been better playing 26.Nf3 to get rid of the Bishop. I know it turned out well for Fischer playing 26.Qf3, but this looks an inaccuracy to me.

Gary Dormand I agree, I also don't think Fischer played in a very clean way here. Rc8 was easy to see for me as well; it was the first move I considered. Now, of course it's a different thing when you're actually playing the game and I doubt I would have found all of Ivkov's good moves before, but nevertheless I feel like Daniel is protecting Ivkov too much for making Rc8 sound difficult. In any case, I think that Fischer got a bit lucky in this game. The attack with e5 followed by d6 wasn't particularly hard to see and before that he was just worse.

if i may, i think you mean to use wipeout as a noun and not a phrasal verb.

Wouldn't 33 Q e8 be strong for Fischer?
@arnieus8666 жыл бұрын
IMHO it would be if the Rook were forced to take the Queen. However the rook is defended by the black Queen. After the king moves f2 is still the problem.
@flolupo6 жыл бұрын
Why not 33. Qe8? It trades the Queen against the rook and gains a new Queen (at 14:11).

Black steps up: 33...Kg7 and the fight is still on.
