That's the best Advent calendar I've ever seen! I realise that this is a boat channel, but I vote for an extended segment on the home brew set up.

The home brew setup is quite basic, really. The really important part in brewing is cleaning and sterilization of all equipment that comes in contact with the brew from the moments it cools after cooking and including the bottles. :-)

WOW! Your tenacity in dealing with ALL that grinding - in those conditions is prodigious. Despite having a perfectly well equipped and spacious 155m^2 barn workshop to complete my campervan conversion in, I find the cold an especially difficult obstacle to overcome. It's almost as bad in the summer when temps are often above 30deg C. What you do is very inspirational, and I totally admire your resolve, and I admit I am slightly embarrassed by your output. I am also in agreement with at least one other comment to see more on your brewing set up; (who knows, it may even get me back into brewing again). In case there are no more videos before Christmas, may I wish you and your family a very happy time. Regards Mark in the UK

Hi Mark! Having a barn that huge as a workshop sounds great. But yes, it is still a hazzle to get past the doorstep and into the cold. The heat you describe is way hotter than it gets up here. The internal circuit of the motor is protected in the form of a (coloured) cooling fluid. The external (seawater) circuit should kept frost free, but some form of heating is very unsafe...somebody can turn off the power...it's better to remove the remains of the seawater with your vacuum cleaner.. I love your videos and have seen all of them. Your persistence is prodigious! This question may have been covered in an earlier response, but could you have not rented a sander with integral vacuum cleaner for a less dusty resurfacing of the interior? I rented one, I think from Fein, from my marina and it made bottom sanding to remove old anti-fouling paint much simpler. Would that not have worked as well as grinding with a flapper disc? Keep up the great work!
@hsobstad8 ай бұрын
Interesting question. Would a sander with a vacuum cleaner have worked? It is easier to work outside the hull with a machine that has both a electric connection wire and a dust hose. Inside there are less space and more obsticles for the hose to get stuck in. The amount of dust is insane and the vacuum cleaner would have to be cleaned a lot. But still there would be a lot of dust. So I guess the answer is yes and no. It works better outside the hull than inside. But it would work. Not sure it would be better or less work though. :-)

Yes, After ten years of sailing my old boat it needed some love. Unfortunately so did my old house which in the end won. I ended up with 2 small bulkheads and a nice clean bare hull. I got all the bulkheads back in and quite a bit of the furnature as well but money, or the lack of it, as well as enthusiasm got the better of me and i decided somewhere to live would take precidence. I sold the boat for not a lot of money but i did get something back at least. I watch KZbin videos of people buying old boats that are in need of major restoration and think they would be better buying something in better condition and going sailing. You at least know what you are taking on and have your other boat to get out on the water with. Good luck and I look forward to watching your progress.@@hsobstad
@hsobstad9 ай бұрын
@@derekhoughton1346 Sorry to read that you let your boat go. But it is important to prioritise, so common sense leaves a boat low on that list. I actually do both agree and disagree about buying a better boat. A boat with no issues is quite a new boat (even those have issues), which will be darn expensive. Can you afford, go ahead. Buying a 20 year old boat, well then it all depends on a lot of factors. You might end up with an quite expensive boat, but with hidden issues that might come costly. Buying a boat in questionable condition then you dont pay for halv broken/worn stuff like old but working chart plotters, radars, stoves etc. But you know a lot will have to be fixed. It will be expensive, but less if you can do it yourself. You might end up with a top notch boat with the latest of navigational and other equipment. But yes, it takes a toll.... 🙂
@derekhoughton13469 ай бұрын
@@hsobstad I fully agree with what you say. My biggest issue is people who take on a project without fully understanding what it entails and the costs involved. A cheap 10 metre boat looks a good proposition until the reality sets in once the project starts. My biggest cost was storing the boat ashore as I took on a 18 by 8 metre shed which didn't come cheap. On the up side I set it up as a workshop which was then used for storage for stuff from the house as I was refitting it. As I had aquired floor standing woodworking tools and had space to handle sheets of plywood iit definately allowed me to do more than just working in the house so the costs were offset. The boat was also protected which was another good thing.

Nice work! A well deserved beer😅. In some videos it looks like the floor is moving a bit (might be some optical illusion) but how do you assess that the structure beneath the internal fiberglass has not had water ingress? What is the hull core made from? (Foam or wood?). Really fun to follow along 😊 Lykke til fra Sverige.
@hsobstad9 ай бұрын
Thanks. The floor is plywood, about 22mm, and is flexing a bit yes. Strangely these parts seems to be in decent condition, without rot and water ingress. The hull has no core. It is pure fibreglass all the way through. Tack så mycket. :-)
@martinboagey24228 ай бұрын
Not quite sure why all gelcoat has been ground off?
@hsobstad8 ай бұрын
It is a combination of two issues. 1) the surface is uneven after removing the interior and 2) i have to grind off some of the gelcoat to be able to stick the new structural members and the interior that has to be glued to the hull, using glassfiber and polyester (or epoxy). A bonus is that the old gelcoat was dirty and smelly too.... :-)
