Damn that sucks! Need at least 25 yards of mono. The stretch helps prevent pulled hooks...especially when fishing on big boats that bounce up and down with a tremendous amount of force.

Just my preference but this is why I prefer mono over fluoro when fishing for bluefin. That stretch you get with mono would’ve saved you from that hook being pulled during the head shake. I know cause I lost a big tuna on my spinning set up running 65lb braid with a short top shot of 40 lb fluoro. Pulled the hook just like you did. My two tuna I did land was on my 50 lb setup running 80 lb hollow braid with 100 yds of 50 lb mono top shot.

You feel the "pop" when the fish shakes its head because the black diamond hybrids have very fast action and you are using braid straight to fluoro. It would be good to have some mono topshot for shock absorption. Anyway, very nice job with the video and commentary

@FishermansHobby5 жыл бұрын
Matthew_Aviation try to use sinker rig, but I do I it like Carolina rig. 2 oz. of slide sinker with a stopper. Distant the hook and sinker about 5 to 7 ft. . I landed a 30lbs and 90lbs BFT with that rig a week later after I lost the one on this video. Hook the bait on the nose and drop it before boat completely stop. Good luck 🙏

@FishermansHobby5 жыл бұрын

@Briguy10275 жыл бұрын
I was wondering what you meant about rod in the wrong hand, you meant when he's flylining he has the rod in his right hand. Tons of guys do it that way though, even I do. On the other hand though, I reel lefthanded. Anyway, it seems a lot of guys are more comfortable holding the rod in their right hand when flylining, not sure why.
@mikepowell39225 жыл бұрын
The reason the rod goes in the left hand is eliminates about 4 steps and changing hands on the rod. Do it right long enough and it will become comfortable.

fishing tuna with a small hook 2408, what is this guy thinking
@FishermansHobby5 жыл бұрын
James Shn sorry I don’t know what is 2408. Big BFT don’t like to stay close to especially BIG Boat, if using over size hook or too heavy line, the bait will not swim well and that will reduce a greater chance of getting bit. Thank you 🙏
@peterk8145 жыл бұрын
With jigs there’s really not any reason not to use heavy leader especially if you’re fishing with jigs that big. Seems stupid to fish 60. Can fish 100 it’s not gonna kill the action nor will the fish care.
@FishermansHobby5 жыл бұрын
peterk814 you are corrected, fishing heavy jig on big fish should not be an issue using 80 to 100 plus lbs . I caught a 217 BFT on 150 lbs line. Thank you for your comments 🙏
