Great video Matt! I finally have some advice to hand over! For high-alpine lakes like these, there are a few things to note: - The fish in these systems cruise constantly, so a few spinner casts are great in each spot, but if they don't bite on that, swap over to something like suspended bait with a bobber/indicator. Like you saw in the stomach, these guys are eating a lot of suspended bugs and bugs that are floating on the surface. - In the mornings, an hour or two after sun rise and a couple hours before sunset are your best time to find them actively cruising. Midday, they will often move more towards the center, deeper portions of the lakes. I've had days on these waterways where I wont catch anything all day, then that magical hour and half before sunset, I'll land 10+ fish. - These lakes look like they're just going through their seasonal "ice-off". Meaning the fish are going to be ready to eat A LOT now that they have access to outside food sources again, but a patient bobber or fly fishing indicator setup will yield the best results. You can even land 2 fish on the same setup if you rig a couple suspended baits. My buddies and I have done this each year during ice-off in CO. - Finally, my ideal setup for these, whether you're using a spinning rod or fly fishing rod, is an indicator/bobber, with some chironomids and scuds suspended several feet down. Or for more active fishing, small black, brown, or green streamers with just a little weight. This mimics their more active, natural food sources of minnows and leaches. And then the cue de gra, which is the most fun, but very dependent on where you are and time of year, is a small floating hopper pattern. Drop one of these close to one of those ledge drop offs you were seeing in that super clear water for some truly exhilarating topwater takes.

The main reason why me or us keep watching your videos is that you're not boring to watch. It's entertaining to watch bcuz you keep talking every move, every step. Also I learned a lot from you from fishing, cooking at many more. I love watching your videos while drinking my coffee ☕ however right now it's night time here so I can't drink coffee. I'm thinking if I'll just watch your this new video tomorrow but I can't wait till tomorrow. I'm your big fan for a very long time. The first video I watched was when you cought a small shark I don't know what kind of shark was it.

This video reminds me of the time my old man and I went to stay with at my oldest sister's house when she lived in San Francisco. We spent a couple days visiting an uncle over at Lake Tahoe and during our time there, he took us out to one of the rivers where I got to swim with a face mask that allowed me to see almost 30 feet down to the bottom of the riverbed. It was amazing because it was sooo clear and I could see a little cave-like alcove underneath where there were about 10+ 3-5'-long fish. I don't know what the fish were but they weren't scary-looking or anything like that--just some kind of river fish that would've been super-fun to fish for. But the water, nature... It's one of my most cherished memories. This video reeks of it. I envy you, Matt! But stay safe, man. That bear spray you have is good and all, but if I were you, I'd acknowledge the other threats and carry a firearm, too. Even for big bears, that spray might not be enough and with the world being what it is today, we all know how common weirdos can be in remote areas. Just stay safe, man.

Yes! For a second I thought it was stock footage filmed from a helicopter then realized it was a dang drone 😳 Need to find out which model drone that is and also buy him a decent set of camping utensils 😂 I highly recommend the German army-surplus eating utensils from the 1980's. All stainless steel spoon, fork, butter knife, and can opener and they all brilliantly combine into the can opener for storage. A little heavy but totally worth it.

@@Xpyburnt_ndz he does have the commercial license as it is legally required in order to share or put into any videos ever. Extremely idiotic, but government will be government. It's why I've still not ever used my own drones. I'd rather not risk a picky cop checking if I have the required permit to do so, or the feds checking if it is my own drones photos or footage used in my videos. May not be likely, but it isn't a gamble I want to take. Maybe someday, though 😂

@@Raeilgunne most people say it's wicked easy, and from what I've been told is $5 for the permit which lasts 3 years. Though since then, I've also seen and heard the feds altered the criteria, rules and of course the course you go through in order to obtain it. Sounded like they were going to merge their in-depth training course with their permit one so everyone would be required to go through it before they could obtain the commercial license. I haven't kept up with it all for a few years yet.

Love the video as always! Just wanted to respond to your question about the snow collapsing. Yes this is a very real possibility, smaller trees and even large bushes can get barrier under the snow in a way that creates a sort of pocket, and if you walk over it you can be sucked under and engulfed in the snow. Please be careful out there :)

Howdy Matt! When you’re navigating snow covered mountains your main concerns for falling through the snow is a hidden stream, buried waterfall, crevasse, glacial crevasse. All you can really do is poke at the snow in front of you, and look for dips. Make sure to have some ice cleats or crampons in your mountain bag! It makes life up there a lot easier.

My fishing buddy has a Sienna and every year it converts into “Golden Trout One”. Uses schedule 40 to slide the fly rods above where we sleep. That way we’re always ready to fish! It holds one cot and enough room for a guest to sleep on the floor. Virtually holds tons of fishing gear, cooking equipment, portable stove, folding table, folding arm chairs, 5 gal water square jug with battery powered pump. Oh and an emergency cassette toilet. He custom made a blackout curtain behind the front seats… and folding blackout panels for the windows. A cargo net just under the rod holders for extra stuff. Rod holders are against the ceiling. Have fun with your Sienna. Also brings 1 to 2 ice chests.. never uses the cargo racks.

Hey Matt, not sure this’ll be seen but as far as falling into the snow even if its compacted, bushes and stuff are probably the most treacherous thing I’d worry about, nearly twisted an ankle a few times in those, main thing is to keep an eye out for the tips of the bushes that are still sticking out. That is, if large bushes are common in your area. Been catching up on videos after a fair little hiatus, great to see you making content that retains the charm of the videos from years ago while doing new stuff. Have a good one and tight lines!
