Hey guys just want to clear up any confusion- I had a really great time with my boater Trey, despite the tough fishing situation. He was a phenomenal kid and is a great angler. There were about 100 co anglers in a similar situation that didn’t really get to fish- but the fact of the matter is, these guys are paying a ton of money and trying to qualify for the elites. They have to be focused on their game, and that puts them in a tough spot with situations like leech. I truly truly believe that the opens should not have co anglers. That is the solution IMO.

No need to clear thing up your use to a kayak and being able to pick things apart, in the back your working with someone else speed and have to fish there style and if you can’t it hard and in a tournament I can imaging frustrating! I was thinking about that watching this video actually, that’s why the past 3 year I always have one lure on I’m not comfortable with till I am comfortable with it then I get the next one. So if I ever get the chance to chase my dream I’ll be best prepared. And I’m not to far from the chase hopefully

I've been the guy in the front of the boat and been the guy in the back. It's just me but even when I had a co-angler I tried to help them catch fish. I've gotten a good limit early in the day and given the front of the boat to the co-angler. One guy hated my hand control trolling motor so I laid my rod down and ran it for him. I was out there to win but also have fun and help my co-angler have fun.

Yeah that’s all I did maybe even too much for the first boat tournament I fished. Focused on making sure my co angler had a great time and caught fish. At this level though, these guys are trying to make the elites and have so much on the line

I hate to be the guy that says it but co anglers have every right to be in the opens and for some of us it’s a stepping stone where we cut our teeth before taking the leap to be a pro. Also, If you’re an EQ guy in the points race, and you believe a co angler is going to affect your outcome of making the elites, chances are you don’t belong there anyways. Just my 2 cents.
@Nunley104 ай бұрын
It would have been so easy to let you catch 3 bass off of that spot. There's no way I could have a big limit of bass like that and not let my co have a chance of catching a limit

From what I understand the reason trolling was prohibited in tournaments was because it forced the co-angler into a specific technique and removed all their choices. Well, how is Live Scope different?
@johndavis56624 ай бұрын
Totally understand your feelings. Interesting results comparing shoreline, vs open water with live scope. Co would not be for me either. You're so good that I know you'll do well with more experience, but in the meantime, get back in that yak!

To be honest, even pre ffs that day would’ve sucked for a co. He would’ve ran his boulders all day and the co would still be out in the open. Also bed fishing tournaments or guys running parallel to banks can happen shallow too. Totally agreed that co anglers shouldn’t be at the opens level. I’ve heard too many stories of guys fighting for eq qualifications having co anglers cast at their brush pile while they are culling. They have way too much invested to deal with that.

I completely agree that the Opens should not have co-anglers. It just doesn't make sense given the stakes for the Pros. It was cool to see the interactions you have with the Pro, and I can definitely see the value just being in the boat with someone like Trey, but trying to fish competitively as a Co is not feasible with FFS.

I had the exact same experience my second day as a co up there and literally made hundreds of pointless casts. Must’ve landed on ones head because I fortunately landed one 15 incher. I also never want to do that again, I agree with no co’s in the opens.
@jimoconnor85974 ай бұрын
Agree the Open's should not have cos. You did get a great lesson on a style of fishing/fizzing fish/FFS that you could not have gotten anywhere. Not that a co should pay to just watch all day (when I fished I always took care of my co and let them have the TM for part of the day) but looks like he was fishing boulders/structure and even without FFS, you would have watched Trey put them in the boat. Sucks to want to compete and not be able too. At least he did try to give you a small opportunity at the end to catch a green one. Great job staying as positive as possible on the outside while probably dying inside and wanting to scream out loud. LOL

Make the top boater-coangler combined weights for each day win additional money? Maybe that will entice boaters to put away their FFS crutch once in a while and actually bass fish?

Not my "Cup 'O Tea" either, being a Co Angler. Been a couple of times on Bass Boats, and got accused of "Back-Casting" (casting up ahead, where the "MAIN" angler was fishing along the shoreline weekds/pads), and Beating him to the "Punch", so to speak. I guess I'm just too "Ambitious" and competitive to be a "Co"! Lol. Least you had a little Fun, and saw what the "Boat People" with FFS have to do to get bites. (I'm SO "competitive" I got another 'Yak with a 3 HP elect. motor on it, just so I can get there FIRST...!). Haha! You do YOU, and I"m sure you'll have Fun doing it Your OWN Way. Not trying to be a jerk but this guy know apparently know how to fish and stats of other anglers but nothing about the fish, why would you assume fizzing a fish is a depth thing it’s is all about how fast they come from the depth that causes the pressure to effect the swim bladder. I believe when they show tournaments live on bass or any series for that matter they need to show how the angler care for the fish and not only the action and catches. Cause you never see or get shown pros deal with this issue, and we all believe in conservation as fisher man/ women. Ok I’m sorry end of rant but you guys killed it I wish we had a spot with huge smallis, well atleat I haven’t caught them! 😂 long time fan keep up the good work! And the great videos! 👍

As a representative of the BassmastHER movement you are already questioning whether or not you want to do the next tournament in La Crosse? That should signal a major problem to the Bassmaster organization. We've got to stop normalizing this idea that the boater handicapping a co is just the way it is. The weights on the river are insane this year. Go win it in La Crosse!

That's the downside of being a co- angler. It's tough out of the back in open water. Like you said, it's like casting to nothing and just hope for a bite. Now beating the bank as a co is a different story. I've done better than the boater in some tournaments from the back. You did gain some knowledge though.
