Adam, today you mentioned SF Bay halibut is a "SUSTAINABLE" fishery. What would be your guess on the total effort by fishers (week day and weekend) by fishing platforms (big party boats and six pack charters, private skiffs, kayaks and shore fishers to catch a halibut.... And what would do you estimate their success rates? What is or would be a sustainable catch or catch rate? Why not release some big fish? Set limit at : 1 fish under under 22" and 1 over 22", to save some of those large/old female big time reproducers and save some of those big fish genes? Your videos are always very enjoyable and super informative.
@bradgreen1349 Жыл бұрын
I agree.... Halibut should have a slot limit of 24"-36".... with 2 fish being kept. I'm highly skeptical about the "sustainability" of the fishery...halibut are getting slaughtered this year with the other closures. And KZbinrs arent helping with the endless videos of "limits!!!"... not picking on you Adam, theres many! (chrisP, etc)..... they should be promoting conservation, esp now! How many fish can one freezer hold?? 22-23" halibut have no business being put on a stringer.... there's no meat on them whatsoever, put em back for next year.... and I know its easier said than done, but 40" halibut belong on the breeding grounds... the amount of eggs they produce is insane. not sure how to get them in the boat to check their size without gaffing them though...but if it can be done with sturgeon it can be done with flatties.... love the vids though Adam. tight lines....

Adam does ONLY what DFG approves, like all other fishers. DFG will be responsible for what ever happens ::: the Good, the Bad or the Ugly. However, even way up north, with very few fishers, Alaska has made many, many miss informed directions in fishery/crustaecean management.

United states Seafoods LLC is hiring for commercial factory trawler positions in the Bering sea Alaska.. Pay is 3k to 5K a month plus bonus for those with experience. Most of the positions involve catching ,processing fish and ,storage. Long lining cod is the most typical work. Brutally tough work in cold weather but good pay and experience of a lifetime.

Is there any chance any one can ever give a boat launch location for any of these halibut spots. I got a small boat but ain’t to familiar with the bay. I live in north bay and ain’t asking for a damn GPS coordinates, just want to no a spot where I could launch my small boat and get back if weathers comes up. If a kayak can be safe out there. I no my boat would be feasible. Thank you.
@andrewvillanueva3722 Жыл бұрын
You can launch out oyster point. Alot spots to fish for halibut. Alameda rock wall, Berkeley flats, raccoon straights by paradise, in front of angel island, in front of alcatraz all these spots hold halibut. You can alot launch from Emeryville sportfishing.

Alameda side at Encinal boat ramp or other side at Coyote point. Both gets you into SF bay for halibut hunting. Good luck.

Fished Napa river for sturgeon and stripers so I no those areas, but never fished the bay very much.
