I used to hand line fish with a bottle when I was little. It was good when I found a spot with a lot of brush but couldn't cast with my pole. This video brought back a lot of fun memories. I think I know what I'm buying tonight lol

Thanks so much for the comment Koga. Those childhood memories were the motivation for designing the yoyito. The idea came to me while at the local sporting goods store. I was looking for one of those fancy aluminum carts to carry my fishing gear. I had been accumulating rods and related accessories for years, to the point I needed something to carry all my stuff. Then it dawned on me: Why do I need so much stuff? I grew up fishing with a simple plastic or wooden handline reel. Back then fishing was not just a sport, but a means of feeding the family. So I settle on the following design goals for the reel: 1) It must out cast the plastic reels. 2) It must fit in your pocket. 3) It must allow you to land big fish. 4) It must last a lifetime. And there you have you have it.

Thank you so much for the kind comment. I always go back and forth on whether I just do music and subtitles or talk. It is great to know that you prefer it like this. Honestly, this is so much easier for me, I hate to talk on camera. The music seems to be hit or miss, some people like it and some not. I've been meaning to experiment with those new AI voice overs, basically the computer turns the subtitles into voice for you. We'll see how that works out.

Thanks man. I would bet once you get the hang of handlining you'd love it. It feels like it is just you and the fish, no gimmicks, no tricks. You can certainly start with anything, be a cheap plastic reel or a simple soda can with some line around it. Afterall, fish don't care how much you spend on your gear LOL. I'm obviously partial, but once you decide that handlining is for you, a Yoyito reel is the only one of it kind and will allow you to land a man sized fish with a tiny little fishing kit that fits in your pocket. Unlike all the fishing gear filling up our landfills, this reel will last you a lifetime and then some. Who knows, your great grand kids could inherit them one day and catch their own table fare with your $50 investment. LOL.

I'll try doing that, I agree that is probably the most useful info for folks not familiar with a given area, but I'm having a hard time finding how to do this without it been boring. There is a lot of walking and waiting for fish signs. But if you notice, I'm always casting towards the hanging branches. This was shot during the middle of the day, and the fish prefer shade so looking for shade is a good start.

@@Fishingyoyito Yes it would be great knowing what signs to look for. I suppose you wouldn't have to show the walking part but if you found a good example with the signs and a bad example without them, that would be an extremely helpful video. 😉

I take my boys, ages 8 and 11, education very seriously, including woodsmanship skills. We practice a minimalist approach to our fieldcaft, and the Yoyito more than fits our needs. Neigh indestructible to regular use, the reel allows us to hand fish or set up a series of automatic rigs. They have more than once provided our lunch of roasted catfish over a camp fire. Mike I have two ideas, maybe you can weigh in a bit here. Idea #1 is a minimalist approach, just a couple of ingredients you can carry on your pack for months (like: powder seasonings) or foraged plants that can be used for seasoning, a simple primitive fire. This would be something you'd do in a survival or extended hiking/camping situation. Idea #2, would be a really nice recipe with fresh greens, a grill or campstove, perhaps a nice sauce. This is something you'd do if you are car camping, RVing or at home. But it should be something as good as you'd find in a nice restaurant. Which direction do you like best?

I just caught a big bowfin down in FL last week with my Yoyito... SIMPLE set up, just a bobber and a #1 circle hook baited with a strip of bacon fat. I like to take the smallest amount of gear that will allow me the greatest range of possibilities- that's why I love my Yoyito! That said: do you think you could catch a snakehead with a Yoyito? I mean, reeling in consistently and rapidly might be tough...

Shan, sorry for taking so long to reply to your comment. Congratulations on the bowfin, they can put up a great fight and I'm so glad you are happy with your Yoyito. I've caught a few snakehead down in the everglades, but they do have teeth, so make sure you use a strong enough leader. It will make a difference if you are fishing with crankbait or plugs, since don't usually get too close to the line when hooked this way. But if you are using natural baits, then I recommend you use 30lb leader or double up on the 20lb like in a bottom rig (check out the rig on this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3_NaWapYq5km9k). I would not worry too much about landing it once they are hooked, they are easier to land than bowfin, which tend to spit out the hook if you don't reel fast enough. Good luck with your fishing and be careful with the most dangerous animal in south Florida (the mosquito).

In Michigan we're instructed by the DNR to immediately kill and then report (for spread and tracking) any exotics. Throwing them back is a big no-no

Very fishy in deed! Although for full disclosure, I use the Yoyito handline reel for handling blue crabs too. So I would say it's kind of crabby too.
