Beautifull Exotic's! How do they taste? Have you ever used them or the huge grass hoppers for bait for some thing bigger
@TheFishingNomad
@TheFishingNomad Ай бұрын
Taste just like bluegill or any other panfish, just with a higher meat to skin ratio. I haven't used the grasshoppers for bait, but that's not a bad idea.

I agree. A lot of people are turned off by the price, but like I said at the end of this video, the lure still looked brand new even after all those fish.

Glad I can help. You're picking a good time of year to head down. Some of the best fishing all year is in the mid-late spring.

A few miles to the west, the canal gets really narrow and shallow. You literally see hundreds of gators. It's incredible
@TheFishingNomad
@TheFishingNomad Жыл бұрын
Yeah I haven't been that way too often, I think only three times or so, but certainly more gators out there. Very cool to see.

So we will be staying in Homestead. Do you have to drive long on the Tamiami to be able to safely pull over and fish like you did? If you have coordinates i can enter in google earth, that would be cool. Thxs
@TheFishingNomad
@TheFishingNomad Жыл бұрын
Start here, 25.761427, -80.482699, and just drive west until you want to fish. Some of the road doesn't have much access since there is a guardrail along it, but people still park their cars and fish there. If you want to pull over on the inside of the guardrail like I did you'll have to drive around 10 miles west I think.

Two questions for you, can you fish out of a kayak there and would it be fishy in early December?
@TheFishingNomad
@TheFishingNomad 2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can, there are a couple boat ramps and kayak launches along the canal, but there's plenty of gators so I don't know if that's something I would be comfortable doing. Early December should be okay, but not the best. Late April to early June would be the best times, but anything besides the summer is okay.

@@TheFishingNomad thank you very much for the info. I’ll be driving down the first week of Dec from Ny and really just want to catch new things. Not much of a fisherman but enjoy it. Hope to catch a Peacock and a gar while I’m in Florida. Thank you for the info.

I dont think you could have picked a worse place for the opening monologue if you tried. Wind noise and what sounds like a highway right behind you. Question comes to mind, Why are you fishing so far from the water. Seems to me you can get a bit closer to the canal? Maybe theres a reason for this?
@TheFishingNomad
@TheFishingNomad Жыл бұрын
I mean this entire body of water runs parallel to Tamiami Trail so there's a highway right next to it during the entire stretch of the water. If you've seen some other videos filmed here you'll know there are plenty of gators in there. Often times they'll hang out close to the bank, are hard to see, and chase your fish as you're reeling them in.

Hi, wife and I heading down first part of Feb for a week. We love to fish, have a pond as well. Have been down a couple times shore fished and also canal fiahed near Goodland got some sheepshead and mangrove snapper. We're staying near Naples. Would you be willing to share some coordinates and 2-3 locations where we could stop and try to catch some peacocks? Would help minimize the time it'd take to search. We'll have travel rods and miscellaneous lures and plastics. Or could email you direct and/or touch base when down there. Anyone else wanna reply with location tips would be appreciated.

I don't usually give out spots, but this canal is so long, so well known, and all of it produces good fish that I don't mind in this case. Literally any spot along the trail can and will produce fish. You can try here and fish anywhere east or west for several dozen miles. 25°45'43.1"N 80°49'19.7"W
