Fishing for Giant California Golden Trout | Backpacking in the Sierras | Lucky Tides Fishing

3 day backpacking trip up into the remote wilderness of the Sierra Nevadas. Gnarly hike to our campsite and ran out of water. Took about 6 to get there, which was much longer then expected. We caught lots of Brooke trout on day one. Day 2 we hiked another few miles to our second lake. We heard a rumor that this lake might hold the elusive golden trout and we were not let down. I caught the biggest trout I’ve ever caught and it was a golden! All around it was an awesome trip and one of the hardest, most rewarding, and most beautiful hike I’ve ever done in the sierras. No catch and cook this time by next time we will be eating lots of trout. Come along and watch the journey. Let me know what you guys think!!

Beautiful country, nice video. I'm glad you didn't eat a mushroom you couldn't identify. That thing looked a lot like an old panther cap which is an amanita variety and very toxic.

Thanks! Yeah that’s good to know for the future. Not that I would eat any mushroom off the ground. I could be 99.9% sure and was still second guess myself. And then probably die from a panic attack even if it was safe. I appreciate the watch!

I fished Kings Canyon Park lakes & streams in the 1950s and 1960s for Golden Trout. The record for size is from Colorado.

They were stocked in many high elevation lakes in the sierras back in the day. There are a bunch of lakes up there only have Goldens in them. This one may have been some sort of hybrid cause his colors weren’t super dark. Thanks for watching!

Did I miss the name of this place or is another secret that millions of people already know about? It looks familiar just can't place the name. Haven't been to the sierra's in some time now. I've got about 25000 miles invested in to the sierra's. Used to spend all my free time there and actually live up there for a year and a half just wondering around. It's definitely the only place I miss about Ca. Well, maybe the ocean too as I love scuba. Thanks for the memories. I'll get back there again before I die.

Thank you! Did the footage look decent? Any of the first person footage or tripod footage is a Go Pro 10 and the b-roll and clips of me talking are on my IPhone 13. I keep it pretty simple!

@@adloutdoors they are great! Easy to use. Great for 1st person action stuff. Pretty durable. The batteries only last like an hour though. That’s the downfall. So you need a bunch of them. But I plug mine into a portable battery pack and then you can use it as long as you want. I have a 10 and the 12 is out now. Mine records up to 4k but I think I only have it at 1080p or possibly 2700 in the video.

Ha Ha, that was not a golden. Likely a mix of something with the larger rainbows that have been planted here and there. They are fat, it's surprising to catch them. Goldens will have a very bright red belly, and really yellow sides, and are typically 8 inches or so in a lake. I've hiked the whole JMT and the rivers and lakes along it have tons of them, they are not hard to find. Evolution Lake had lots, and would not bite my fly. EVERYTHING bites my flies, what the heck! lol

@@luckytidestv A beautiful fish, no doubt. BTW, try fly and bubble method sometime. Its really just lure fishing with a fly, but you can cast twice as far and reach areas you can't with lures. Also, you can tie flies and feel like a real fly fisherman, lol. Works for me. When you do catch a golden, they are indeed amazing. The faces are iridescent orange and yellow. I feel bad eating them, sort of.

There are thousands of lakes up in the Sierras. One of the best parts of the adventure is hopping on google earth and discovering new places. That’s what I did. Do your research and have fun with the unexpected.
