When I lived in the southern most part of Ontario, we had 2 white pelicans in town. They were blown off their migratory course by hurricane Opal. They were a sight to see.

The first time I had ever seen grey pelicans was on my honeymoon in Cancun. One of the fishing guides I hired for the day was hand feeding them. He had us hold up some bait straight above our head and then the little grew pelican would fly over and grab the bait from our fingers. It was fun! Then, I saw them quite a bit on South Padre Island in Texas. The people I talked to down there never heard of a white pelican before. I was the exact opposite in never seeing or hearing of a grey pelican before. The greys were half the size of the big white pelicans.

We have those big white pelicans all over here in Minnesota. When we have a fish winter kill and all the carp are floating, those pelicans do us all a favor and eat up all the floaters. One thing that seems to go hand in hand is whenever I see pelicans, I tend to see cormorants too. I don't know if their range brings them up your way, but they are very well established here and are detrimental to our fisheries. I would hate to see them on the Great Slave Lake. They eat all of the walleyes on Leech Lake so they are forced to bring in sharp-shooters to thin cormorant out.

@@TheWildNorth You know what, man? You probably have no idea how much your reply is appreciated. Also, it just proves why I've liked your channel (not sure how long since I subscribed) and devoured whatever content you created, almost binge-watching - I'd say I would've if I'd had the time. For those of us who live/lived up North and know what it's like living without electricity and running water (my North is Labrador), your frankness and bullshit-free attitude is really admired. I hear ya with the motivation sometimes dwindling. To be honest, you've been different in the last few episodes but I just figured you were adapting to a new phase in your life and you'd be back shortly. I've watched you from the early years when you were quite rough around the edges compared to recent years; you seemed to mellow and settle with a little more peace in front of the camera. Then, the new fishery seemed to get you rankled or something. LOL. Man, just overlook my ignorance if I'm way off base. Bottom line, I just look forward to learning what I can from you and visiting - as I'm sure are many others like me. Either way you decide to go, thank you for the great content and you got my support either way, for what it's worth. I'm old, man, LOL. Blessings, Andy.
