My 106 MK is being shipped this week...(suppose too!) 10-14 days and I decided to get the Dakota 12V 100AH Deep Cycle LiFeP04 Battery with it so I will have a battery that can go the distance trolling for Halibut along the Cali coastal areas! spot lock in the wind with the Auto-pilot 120 and 136 swings you around where you dont want to be pointed. Also, for $1,800+ dollars the Sportsman 106 is the best value IMO.

Looks like steering is pretty good with the foot peddles. Any idea what kind of sport you were going at half and full speed. I also like it being a little shorter for transport purposes

David Dura why? Either get the pedal or get the motor. You are talking about adding both components to a kayak. Yes, same footprint in the kayak but they take very different hardware. I just looked at both in person. Got the motorized one.

I am purchasing one of these and can’t decide what color. I have the 106 pdl in the ember camo and the hull gets really hot in the sun particularly in summer months of course. So I’m wondering if the photic camo hull gets really hot as well???? With my ember 106 it can be 90° and I still feel the heat radiating from the hull. Let me know what you’ve experienced.

I am considering purchasing one of these kayaks. I do have a couple of questions hopefully you can answer. First, did the battery come with the boat? Second, how much do those batteries cost? I have heard of guys paying $900 for a lithium ion battery but I’m thinking that a regular deep cycle battery for about 100 bucks should also work. Any advice you could give would be appreciated.

They do not come with battery. I just used to $100 Walmart marine battery. But it is 60lbs. Last all day tho

That's just awesome. Do you have the lithium-ion battery ? How long does the battery last? I'm assuming you should carry a paddle in case the battery dies? Would be really nice if they could incorporate peddle drive with the power for when the battery dies?

Robert, Im 70 too, (DFW area) and my topwater 120 PDL is effortless ......I have caught myself just slowly pedaling for no real reason......the predator is slightly thinner and easier yet...

ChrisNolin1 I have a 106 PDL my buddy has the MinnKota versions and he has a 100ah lead acid battery and he has fished with me twice on 6 hour trips and he used the motor 75% of the time and after both trips he still had 2 of 4 bars left on the meter. Lead acid batteries die fast as they deplete so he probably did not have 50% power left. FYI MinnKota does not recommend lithium batteries but you could probably run one as long as you didn’t run the motor at high too long. I have installed a trolling motor mount on my 106 PDL and we are going to do a comparison video soon.

Don't get caught with that kill-switch cord not attached to you. A kill-switch law has been passed in Texas following a boating accident in Port, Aransas, Texas. The law requires that boat operators of a motor boat 26 feet or less in length be physically connected to a boat's emergency shutoff switch. Governor Greg Abbott signed the bill on June 10, 2019. A $200 ticket can ruin a great day of fishing.

A good step for safety, but many trolling motors have no easy way to install, or to use, a kill-switch. The tiller/speed controls aren't spring-loaded, and will stay "on". It wouldn't be too difficult to devise a solution, but by no means a clean-cut one. Depending on the battery location, a line from a life vest to one battery clip might pass legal muster.
