I got some foster kid errands to do today than I’m going on the river. I got a new pole that I’m going to review on the river also. Thanks for watching diamondbackking.

I’m learning too Deb. I went when I was younger but we never dealt with any of the plastic baits. It was always worms that we used. Now I’m learning what works in certain conditions and how to use them. Thanks for watching

As far as trout go,, no. 0 & no. 1 rooster tails do really well. Panther Martin's do well too. Remember when to use the silver spinners vs. The gold spinners..cloudy days & silver on clear days. Be careful retrieving the hooks not to tear their mouths or they will die too. Helgamits are great on sunfish too. Too early in the season yet, but live helgamits are found under rocks like crayfish. So neat your taking the boy fishing! As soon as I find your email, I will help you over gour fear of snakes too...I did my PhD. In animal science on the effects of milorganite on colubrids & crotalids...

Pro tip. Don’t reel against the drag. If you reeling in a fish and you hear that drag sound…… ease off. You can raise your rod tip to bring the fish in some then reel as you lower your rod tip so you aren’t wearing out your drag. Use the rod to fight the fish. Not the reel. Think about it like a clutch on a truck. It’s the same thing. Also… you might need to tighten your drag if it’s just always making noise while you are reeling in fish. The drag just keeps your line from breaking when the fish runs. When you are fighting the fish and actually reeling it in, the drag should not be slipping while you are reeling. If he’s pulling drag, stop reeling. You just use the reel to take up line. Use the pole to bring the fish in and the reel to collect line as you make progress. Pump up…. Reel down.

Ok thanks. My drag was loose on that video because I loosened it to get unstuck between takes. I just forgot to tighten it back up before casting it out again

When you handle trout and you are gonna release them, you need to wet your hands first. Dry hands takes their slime off and they get infected and die.

Thank you for that info. I greatly appreciate that

Most of the waters coming from the Appalachians should be smallmouth bass, and the stocking of trout should be left to the fastest water. It's the worst fishery in the US, exceeded by Driftless, the Great Lakes, and all waters out west. And stocking trout only proves this out. At least the bass can handle reproduction. Fight better. Get bigger. Put spotted bass in the same watersheds. Getting 12" trout and smaller isn't worth the effort and worm fishermen fish them down to zero.
