Fly fishing for native southern Appalachian brook trout in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park backcountry with David Knapp of Trout Zone Anglers. Join David in August of 2021 for some late summer brook trout fishing. This summer, instead of a big trip out west, David enjoyed a staycation and of course had to include some fishing!

One of my absolute favorite things to do. I'm thankful we are blessed with so much water here in the southern Appalachians!

I have caught quite a few backcountry brookies in the Smokies in my life, and fished many of the brookie streams on the Tennessee side of the park and these are some of the nicer fish I have ever seen come out of there. It makes sense that this video would come from you David. I hope you are doing well

Thanks man! Same here. I go back and forth between browns or brookies being my favorite, but it is really hard to beat our native species.

We're those all true wild brookies? None were stocked in the larger streams? Either way great video and some beautiful fish.

I think I was mostly beetle fishing on this particular trip. Foam beetles and ants are a fun way to fish in the summer.

Know you said 1 weight rod but how long was it? Gorgeous fish, have only seen those colors on Native Brookline’s in the Fall-spawning colors of Sept and Oct.

That rod is 7.5' long. I would fish one a little longer if I could find one, but the 7.5' is not bad.

This is one of the more popular brook trout streams, but I have found them this large on most of the streams I frequent. The key is spending lots of time on the water to find these larger specimens.

@@TroutZoneAnglers is trout fishing season open year around in TN? My wife’s older sister lives in Kingsport and wants me to come along on next visit to do some handi work around her house. Then I want to trout fish since moving to IL from northern WI there are no trout streams. First time in 6 decades I’m not living near some trout.
