So it's approaching Memorial Day Weekend 2024. We are from Clearwater Fl. (Only about 10 miles to the north), we just happen to be staying at the John's Pass Hotel this weekend and will be fishing right about the same spot, except this time of year we strictly target Snook & Tarpon from about midnight until 8 am or so! The Snook are stacked in the passes by the thousands for their summer spawn! We just catch, pic and release! I just hope there are as many Trout and Spanish around now as when you were there! Those are fantastic live baits! We'll try to report back next week!

How did it go???
@willcordelo9582
@willcordelo9582 5 ай бұрын
@fishingfanatic. I wish I could say we slayed them, but it wouldn't be true. What IS true is that we had trouble with bait. I like to use grunts and pinfish, so I built a small, but really nice recirculating baitwell so we could have the option to buy bait in addition to catching bait. Since it is very dark there at night we knew that catching our own would be difficult. So we finally found a pinfish/grunt mixture at a small baitshop in Seminole. We are not sure why but our bait didn't make the 4 hours until it was time to go fishing. We even stopped and changed the water before we went to catch a nap. When we got up to go, all had died. We have had many more baits in this baitwell for twice as long with no problem, so we just can't figure out what happened! We could have went and fished in the morning and caught our own bait, but that weekend was so hot and packed with people, that we voted against it and joined the tourists shopping. Since then,I I bought a really bright green night fishing light that we tried at the Skyway's southern fishing pier and boy does it light up the water and attract greenbacks! That is until the Tarpon showed up. You can't do much with a Tarpon from a pier, but we teased them with some NLBN baits doing figure 8's on the surface. We would allow them to almost kiss the baits, before pulling it away at the last second! We noticed that a few really big ones were getting faster and more aggressive, like they were getting pissed! So we finally quit teasing them! There was about a dozen that stayed around all night, but we didn't catch a thing either night. In fact, we didn't see anyone catch anything! So I don't know what's going on except that the water temp. is really hot! I'm going Tarpon fishing tomorrow in a friend's boat Sunday am. He's been doing really well, so we'll see what happens!

Getting back to Saltwater fishing it's good to see people catch fish in my area. Kinda risky wearing sandals on those rocks. I hit my big toe on shells, not a fun feeling. Grabbed a paper towel and a grocery bag and kept on fishing.

I am going to visit Madeira this year and I am willing to do some shore fishing 100%. Can you please share some tips / tricks for lure fishing? What to use/where/do I need a fishing license? How much does it cost etc?
@RazvanStefan
@RazvanStefan 3 жыл бұрын
Forgot to mention that I will be in Madeira between 5-14 August, maybe that matters for targetting some species.
@littlebucketfishing3939
@littlebucketfishing3939 3 жыл бұрын
I mean as far as south Florida I’m not sure what species to target as northern Florida is vastly different in the ecosystem. But you will need a fishing license unless you are on a chartered boat as far as I know for that info refer to FWC’s website. I’m not able to give legal advice on fishing legally, but as far as tricks and lures I’d use soft plastics like flukes, paddle tails, curly tail grubs and top water stuff like spooks (walk the dog lures) and then spoons like I use in this video silver and shiny small and big for blue fish kings Spanish and more. Fish the mangroves is what I hear for south Florida but your best bet is to look up some charter captains in the area so you have a successful fishing trip then on the other days you can explore a little and do some land fishing, I try to hit inlets from the ocean, mangrove area and docks if you can get to docs legally to fish. Fish canals for fresh water bad tarpon snook peacock bass and other exotics like cichlids. Cost wise I think out of state license is around $100 for the year but for a week it’s like $30. Tackle is expensive if you have non that’s just gonna com nature and for boat charters expect to spend for a good charter captain around $700 for 4 hours of fishing. Hope that info helps ya but best way to figure out what you need to be legal is go to fwc then look up requirements to fish look up the species local to the area then look up the limits and what you can/can’t keep in that area/time of year
@RazvanStefan
@RazvanStefan 3 жыл бұрын
@@littlebucketfishing3939 that was quite comprehensive. Thanks a lot, I am planning to just fish from shores, with my tackle box lures, I will get some in my luggage and I have plenty of jig heads and soft plastics. Maybe I will just take couple of jig heads not a full blown box with many weights and I can buy some there. I have lots of jerkbaits, top water lures so I think I am covered in this. What do you mean by FWC, where I can purchase this license for 1-2 weeks? They have any info points near beaches or maybe in marinas?

@@RazvanStefan go to a Walmart when you get to Florida & buy a fishing license for however long you’re here it’s really cheap but you definitely need one as I get asked for mine all the time randomly even by undercover FWC (fish & wildlife conservation) officers.

The lady fish have a similar coating of slime. Make sure your hands are good an wet before grabbing them (if thats how you unhook them) and having some soaked gloves is better too.
@littlebucketfishing3939
@littlebucketfishing3939 2 жыл бұрын
How would y’all suggest I unhook them without grabbing and can still show the fish on camera? Cause if I just grab the hook and shake I’ll get made fun of for being afraid of fish or being told I’m going to kill the fish my shaking the hook it their head or risk ripping the fishes lip off. Not being a smart A here just asking for information. I’m aware or the slime coat that every fish has some thinker than others but it comes back from what I understand and I’m not palming the fish, just grabbing with my figure tips
