love how this video shows how calm stingrays usually are. In this case it was almost unusually calm for having been hooked and caught but the underwater scene (when you pushed it so it would turn around) is a perfect example for the lack of aggression in these lovely creatures :)

You’re not supposed to carry certain baits across state lines for some reason. I can’t remember why but I couldn’t bring surf clams from MA to ME.
@extremephillyfishing3 жыл бұрын
Different states have different regulations when it comes to bait, 6atlantis. But you are correct! You have to be careful what type of bait you use, because you may introduce foreign/invasive organisms in waters where they don't belong. As for Florida, there are no rules and regulations saying that you can't use frozen shrimp from the Supermarket as bait for fishing.

Feed the hardhead catfish to the bird. There are way too many of them since nobody eats them! In Texas many people throw them to the shores and let them die because sometimes you could spend an entire day catching very little of anything else except hardhead catfish! I typically take them home and make fertilizers out of them. They grow very large tomatoes and luscious basils and peppers!

Not sure if you should be showing off using imported uncooked shrimp (or as we Aussies call them, prawns) for bait. They can carry a number of diseases that may not be present in your local waterways that are not killed by the freezing process. Fishermen doing that here in Australia introduced white-spot disease which has decimated some of our local prawn farming operations and wild crustacean fishing industries.
@extremephillyfishing3 жыл бұрын
That's not a problem at all, Scott. I don't know how the bait market is in Australia, but here in the USA, tackle shops and bait distributors use species of shrimp that are not limited to the USA. As a matter of fact, more than 50% of all frozen squid and shrimp that folks buy from tackle shops come from international waters -- a lot from South America and a lot from Asia.
@ScottBarnden3 жыл бұрын
@@extremephillyfishing in Australia we are extremely strict about bio-security. But bait prawns and human consumption prawns have different bio-security regulations, which ended up allowing white spot disease into some Queensland waterways when fishermen used supermarket prawns for bait instead of tackle shop bait prawns. Cost the local industry millions and put bans on certain types of fishing in place. Of course Florida is already rampant with introduced species so all the diseases may have already established themselves and become endemic by now.

Gotta watch out for those chickens. I was fishing on a pier today and the chickens would sneak up behind the fishermen and eat their shrimp bait.

Leo, been watching and enjoying your videos for years. But have to tell you, please please PLEASE get the fish back into the water faster!!!! There are a lot of young and new fishermen who you influence, a few seconds is all we need to snap a photo and release
@extremephillyfishing3 жыл бұрын
Norman...I appreciate the concern, but just letting you know: in-between shoots and camera angles, especially 1st POV to 3rd POV, I always return my fish to the live-well and give them more water. In other words, when YOU watch the KZbin video, it may seem like the fish has been out of the water for one minute straight. Behind the scenes, the fish is placed in the live well while I adjust the camera angles and get the footage. I understand how people who don't work in this field would easily miss this, though. And I will continue emphasize it in the future how anoxia is bad for fish, and perhaps even emphasize FURTHER that behind the scenes, the fish are placed in the livewell.
