Hey do you two bros live on the north island you said your home was south of the corromandel so is that Hawkes bay gisborne area or more south . Could you comment on the gear a little bit? I got as nice (shore-only) trip to NZ coming up, and no idea what the tackle looks like. Not sure if the Saltiga Popping Rod is a bit too extreme for example (PE6 setup). I would be lying if I said I had a plan figured out but topwater/stickbaits for kingfish from shore sounds like a good start

You don’t need a Saltiga until you hook a big one. But, when you hook a big one you will wish you had one 🤪 It all comes down to how much you are willing to spend mate. There will be a combo that will fit your budget 👍 hope you have an awesome time when your here 😁 Chur chur 😎

Here's a question. With freshwater fish, it's best never to touch them or put them on dry ground, as it removes the protective layer and they can get infections. Does this not apply to saltwater?

Yes, it applies to salt water fish. All the research I’ve read says handling them with wet hands is the best way. Other then that, simply put, don’t go fishing if you don’t want to damage fish.

Cool. Was just wondering, as salt is a healing agent if sorts, so thought there may be less or no risk of infection for salt species. Reason for the question was I note the fish was beached, seems a very common practice for land based fishing and I guess it makes sense, but if you practice catch and release, should it be avoided?. I don't want to harm a fish if I can avoid it, so was just wondering if it's not an issue with saltwater fish. Great shows by the way!!

Salt water fish have a bacterial layer (not sure that they are better off because of being in salt water though?) and it’s best if that layer is left in tacked by handling with wet hands ect and It would be better for the fish to get in the water with it to avoid it touching anything else of course, but that can be a challenge at times. I talked to a guy who worked on a famous game boat (Pursuit, with Rick Pollock) they use to tag heaps of king fish. He had seen multiple king fish bouncing around on the deck of the boat, bleeding from the gills and then released. Only to catch that same fish hours later on the same day and have it fight like crazy 😳😳😳 before hearing that I would have said any fish bleeding from the gills is a dead fish!!!! King fish seem to survive release well. I know snapper to be far more likely to die after release then king fish. Anyway, thank you for watching and taking the time to comment 😁 Chur chur

I am very keen to get the boat! But I have a new appreciation for land based fishing 👌 it has it challenges but if you put the time in the rewards are there. The plan is to land base fish when the weather isn’t as good as we would like and boat fish when the weather is perfect 😎
