another idea for next trip , you go into the mangroves and break open some oysters 🦪 with a hammer from the mangroves (for free) and they love the gooey oysters the only problem is they come of kinda easy but like dock fishing with them above is gold for them!!!

I was debating grabbing some off the mangroves to chum for sure but those things are sharp! I need some good gloves haha I appreciate the tip and the support on the video bro! Thanks for the comment and tight lines!!! 🎣😁
@miguelportillo659120 күн бұрын
another tip, you use a hammer to brake off the oyster and barnacles that are connected to the pole like on a dock and that’s free chum!!!! it’ll attract them
@miguelportillo659120 күн бұрын
last tip lol use a smaller hook , finger nail small , makes it less visible to them , and hook em from the rear through the body sideways

Hi J, You picked the right time to target Sheepies, BUT the wrong spot! The small ones stay in the protection of the mangroves, but once they get to a couple pounds or so they leave with the adults in search of big structure and the current that brings food to them. I admit that while I've caught some really nice ones, I am NOT an expert with this species at all. I think that every one I've ever caught was in places that had many pylons! For some reason, they love to feed on cold and nasty days. The ones I caught was caught while I was fishing on a bridge for something else and noticed how many sheepies where on the pylons! There are usually tons of them on cold days! If I see this, I will usually try to get them to eat shrimp generally because thats all I have. But if you really want to catch some BIG sheepies, I recommend that you go and catch or buy at least 3 dozen fiddlers and take them to the Skyway and work the pylons! I'd use a short leader so it's easier to be precise controlling your bait. Use only enough weight to control the bait. This time of year their will be plenty of experts to help you out. Just watch what they do! Also, this is peak season for Black Drum! Pick up some blue crabs at the bait store, cut them in half, put it on your big rig, and HOLD ON!Black drum, never swim by a Blue crab without eating it! There are many GREAT videos on YT that you can learn a lot about these two species, but it seems to me that the hardest part of of catching these two is dealing with the weather. If you can stand that these monsters will generally cooperate by feeding as that weather makes them burn a tremendous amount of energy! And one more thing! BRING YOUR BRIDGE NET!

As always Will you come with the great knowledge! Haha I appreciate it I figured because of the nasty wind skyway wouldn’t be good to fish right now but if you’re saying that on nasty days they bite well then right now is the perfect time so I might have to head there and yes I will definitely have the bridge net in hand there! Hopefully someone will be willing to help if I get a good one lol thanks as always Will and tight lines!! 🎣😁

@JfishyYT Yes, that why I never really got into targeting sheepies! What is great weather for them, is downright painful for you and I. But if you wanna bundle up you can slay them! You can still catch them on mild days, but they really turn on when it's nasty. Black Drum! There don't care about the weather or the tide! Put a Blue Crab in front of them and they'll inhale it! If you decide to do anything this weekend, let me know. My doctor has me on a new medication that is making me feel so much better! Hey btw, have you ever been to the keys? Do you have any vacation time? My brother and I are looking at Air B&B's down there!

Sheepshead love fiddler crabs, mad crabs are the best and they love mangrove tree crabs all bait you can catch yourself. If you scrap some barnacles off the pylons get them stirred up, and you can fish with the barnacles too. If you notice their barnacles on the base of the mango trees . They love structure.
@JfishyYT21 күн бұрын
That was exactly what I thought! That’s kind of why I figured finding some water that was up to the bottoms of the mangroves with such a low tide it was rough but we found it lol thanks for the tips though! I truly appreciate that and the comment! Tight lines!! 🎣😁

You are receiving this comment because I know you are someone who has fished the north jetty at John’s Pass on Madeira Beach in the past. The city of Madeira Beach has jackhammered the walkway out to this jetty and is not allowing people to fish from the rocks. There is a meeting at Madeira Beach City Hall on Wednesday, December 11 at 2 o’clock to discuss other options to hopefully remedy this situation. Please come and support other land based fisher men and women who don’t want to see another good fishing area closed to us. For more details, Hubbard’s Marina has put out a KZbin explaining the situation more thoroughly.

Hey J . Question for you. You may have already mentioned but what kind of pliers, brand do you you use for those nasty catfish ect. Maybe one of your viewers has a recommendation. Wife says she might get me a Christmas gift this year. Thanks for any recommendations

I have a few different brands but I would say any aluminum pair works well! However if you want to be far away from the fish they have real long ones I’ll find the pair I have on Amazon and link it here in a second!
