Ayo!! For a killer catfish bait, take hotdogs n cut them up into half inch pieces and let them sit in red koolaid powder and garlic powder overnight. The red makes it look bloody and the garlic gives it some stank, works wonders! The good eating sized cats love it

Well built reel but a tad heavy. No anti reverse switch. It is on all the time. If you are one who uses the handle to close the bail ...there is a thick rubber gasket between the rotor and the reel for water proofing. Until broken in it will be harder to turn the reel as the bail is closed by turning the handle. Just spinning the reel is not be affected by the gasket.... only when closing the bail. I removed the gasket in all 3 of my reels and all 3 work excellent. If you don't mind a tad extra weight this reel is a steal. Well built. Smooth operation. Strong and smooth drag. Top reel especially for the price.

Didn't even know about the Ugly Stick Reel until today. I've always loved their rods. My catfish combo has always been 30lb braid with three 3/4oz bullets, a bullet float wedged onto a steel leader with a 3/0 or 4/0 hook and 4 or 5 dead minnows. Cast it, pull it tight, give an arm full of slack, loosen the drag, then listen for the clicks.

we fed fish at a friends pond by taking onion sacks and filling them with meat and hanging them from trees over hanging the pond. flies lay eggs and maggots form and as they feed they drop from the holes in the onion sack into the water. will feed the fish for weeks with pure protein without much work.

It would be a beast of a pond with bait added. And to save you some $$$. Go to some creeks known to have a ton of Crawfish. Set traps catch some by hand. That will help because you get enough you get them breeding in there.

I once worked on this job where the guy had a private pond. He had an automatic feeder that would go off at 5:00 everyday at the same time. All he had in it was pellets that you can get from any feed store cheap. The fish would bubble to the top of the water like crazy. You can save it without a lot of work and cheap is what I’m getting at.

I've got a Shakespeare 7000 spinning reel I use for surf fishing. Got it in the mid 90s and it's still going strong. Spooled with 40 pound monofilament. Couldn't tell you how many tailor, mulloway and other beach monsters it's pulled up.

Working on a pond that is starving as well. You have to do a few things. First you need to take some of the stunted fish out and make sure there isn’t crappie or green sunfish. Then stock with variety of bait. Fathead minnow, golden shiner and bluegill. Get bluegill as large as you can so they can survive and spawn.

Many of these new Ugly Tuff spinning reels are hard to click the bail over by cranking the handle. The reason? Shakespeare put a thick rubber gasket between the body and the the rotor. The purpose is for waterproofing the main body/gears etc. Unless you fish where your reel is getting soaked this gasket is not necessary. Remove the rotor, you will see the black gasket on top of the main body .Carefully pry it off and reassemble. Easy bail closing and super smooth cranking and bail closing (If you fish that way.. not manual closing)Built like a tank. Not the lightest reel but highly fishable. Best deal out there for a quality long lasting reel.

who just starts reeling and let the bail flop over . Making an annoying sound. A lot of reels these days will not do that. It's a very easy habit to get into manually flipping the bail.
