The problem with so many missed strikes is most likely that the sinker is too close to the hook. You should look into moving that sinker about 12" above the hook which would make the fish less likely to bite the sinker during the strike.
@TheBowen7472 жыл бұрын
a sliding sinker set up with a 1.5 ft long leader .. what ya think.. carolina rig lol
@dylanlarose9171 Жыл бұрын
Thats immediately what I was thinking after seeing about 6 takes back to back and missed hooksets. It appears that the weight is pulling the hook free of the fish before they have time to get in fully into their mouth. That being said, I know nothing of this fishery so maybe there is a reason that someone can explain why you would want the weight right with the hook. better detection on the strike is needed? I see the line is pretty light weight.

Huge fan, been subbed for a long time and me and my dad are big sheepshead fisherman (more him than me) i would suggest just a mustad short shank j hook and under 4 ft and if its deep just use a split shot or egg weight. Also, that saltwater pond u fished (u know where it is) a while back has some huggeee tarpon. Going this weekend to try to hook up on one and on the dock by the ramp my dad has caught 3 or 4 almost 18 inch sheepshead so i would suggest that to. Ima stop blabbing now have a blessed day man and stay safe

Sheepshead have large rib cages so you don't get as much meat off of them as you'd expect, plus this one was just within the legal size limit

Love sheepshead fishing and awesome to eat. Fish straight up and down near oysters, posts and rocks. Best is very light on weight as can get away with current. Split shot just 12 inches from hook is great but not always possible. With bait in water on bottom, slowly bounce it up and down in area you want to fish to make sure no snags and then fish bait by going up and down 12-14 inches. When the bait stops moving as pulling up snatch it quick, and you wont miss many of them at all. It is good to chum a spot with crushed mussels, barnacles or crabs. They will show up to your snag free spot and give you a good fight with 10pds. They eat barnacles, mussels, shrimp and favorite is crabs like fiddlers.

I recently moved to an area on the Chesapeake Bay. That's a sheep's head. I'm still kind of new to some of the saltwater stuff. I know they are around this area. How deep of water should I be fishing? And it's a good to find them in the backwaters and shallows like where you find red fish and speckled trout

There are a group of monster sheep that hang around the docks by my work, but they never hit at the crabs. Only pesky baby snappers pick them off the hooks so quickly. Krieger on Archer is your cartoon doppelgänger btw 🤘🏻
@person3904 жыл бұрын
Get a crokersack like oysters come in or shelles corn comes in . Put a brik in it and a container of chicken liver drop it in the water away from were you are fishing . That should hold the little pesky fish .Bait of choice for sheepshead will be crayfish you can get at the seafood shop ,live shrimp no see line chop up a crab they work good run the hook through the joint about the size of your thumbnail but a fat piece . Dont use sercle hooks use a truturn hook dependable brand . Stealth is key . They like staying around pileings in the shadows watching the sunny side . They will move up and down on the pileing so dont fish to deep 3 to 6 feet then go deep . Good luck

Hell yes blue crab chunks work for sheephead. But you'll get less bites because of the size of the bait but the fish tend to be larger.

You get some red crayfish and fish around some docks the pilings. If the sheepshead or around they'll be on the pileing on the sunny side of it most of the time around 6 feet . Stealth is key
