Hey Alan. An easier way to do this is by using a lumo bead. It's a bit tricky but what you do is slide the lumo bead with a bit of moisture down your line and over the eye of the hook ,once you get it over the eye of the hook and line it should be very tight,but you will be able to slide the hook up and down

Great video Alan. Very clear and concise. I've been putting a heavier line out on the kayak while fishing for smaller species on the lighter rods but no good bites yet. Apart from the good old banjo sharks!

Great video! Im having issues keeping the second snell *using the lighter piece of leader* catching snapper after a session out there or mid way thru i find that it comes loose an eventually just pull it off, im using 10lb sometimes 20lb on that snell any tips on how to keep it from coming loose.?

Hey Alan just wondering if the flurocarbon is a must or can I substitute for mono because have caught both snapper and gummies on mono
@fishingmad11 ай бұрын
Yep 100% you can use mono, I just find fluoro to be thinner and stronger.

hi mate . another great vlog . im making up a rod just for snapper and can you give me info on size line and rod please ? keep up the good work ! look forward to the next one . Rob .
@fishingmad3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Rob, For snapper 100% a 5-8 kilo rod around 7 foot 4 in length paired with a 4000-6000 size reel spooled with 30 lb braid is a killer setup. If your local let me know i have a few barely used snapper outfits for sale.

Pls sir wat is the diameter of the inside of the red tubing which u used for sliding hook rig pls Tnks Pompeii
@keithscott97743 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much for that. Would you recommend tying the sinker with a very short length of lesser breaking strain line in case the sinker gets snagged ?
@fishingmad3 жыл бұрын
Hi Keith, that's a great pickup. I have been doing exactly that recently, especially when fishing for gummy sharks in high tidal areas. I generally use a 30cm length of 20lb leader of the ezi rig. I attach the clip to then end of that line so i can still change the sinker easily.

@@fishingmad Cheers, all I need is the boat now. Missed a couple of good buys, but hopefully 3rd time lucky.

Yeah that would be awesome. With covid back in force there may be some bargains available soon. I think ill be looking to move mine soon and upgrade now that im targeting a lot more bigger fish.

Thanks Darren, Yeah i bought some 80lb black magic leader and size 7 gamakatsu hooks a few days ago, and will do a similar rig to this for gummy sharks once were allowed back out.

Do you have a surf rod rig setup for port Melbourne you could recommend for targeting snapper? @fishingmad
@fishingmad3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, I usually use a paternoster rig when fishing in the surf, it allows you to cast so much further as the sinker is at the bottom and you can easily adjust sinker types and sinker weight. I made a vid on DIY paternoster rigs here kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGWUd5KansSSm5Y cheers

Tying stinger hooks to a main hook can be a messy business. This would appear to be the answer to tying a stinger to a worm.
@ronmb813 жыл бұрын
9:16 do you attach the easy rig slider to to braid mainline?
@fishingmad3 жыл бұрын
Yep 100% to the braid mainline, not the leader. Hope that helps
@ronmb813 жыл бұрын
@@fishingmad thanks, for some reason I'd always thought the sliders would chafer and eventually snap the braid.
@fishingmad3 жыл бұрын
Generally it works fine, I did have an occasion a few weeks ago I hooked a massive gummy and lost it due to the braid shredding. So when im targeting the big ones ill use a shock leader above the swivel to avoid this problem, but in most cases its OK
@dragginmedown3 жыл бұрын
Whets your thoughts on the 2 hook rig but the top one is free running on line? I’ve used it a few times but I don’t reckon ive ever hooked a fish with the sliding hook. Only when snelled. My mate reckons he has but I reckon he’s full of shit haha
@fishingmad3 жыл бұрын
One of my good mates uses the rig quite a lot during snapper season, where the top hook freely moves up and down. His done OK with it. I too would be worried about hooking a good fish and it placing a lot of weight onto the bottom hook. I've mainly used this sliding rig when using big baits with awkward sizes. The usual double snelled rig works great for pilchards and silver whiting and would still be my go to in many situations.
@dragginmedown3 жыл бұрын
@@fishingmad yeah that’s it snells are quick to tie anyway
@fishingmad3 жыл бұрын
yeah, 1--%. I started mucking around with the sliding snell only when using massive baits like mackarel, squid and salmon for big gummies. Otherwise standard double snell is the way to go, and so quick to do
