Some great tips here! Vaseline is an absolute must. Imitation dog biscuits are great too, I like to soak them in something sweet. These are the two main things that seem to get carp hoovering it in rather than questioning and spooking off!

Ive found the best way of surface fishing for carp, just a size 6 hook, bit of breadcrust hooked through the crust then dipped for a second into the water, then cast that along the bank into the margins. Have had some great carp up to 18lb (the bigger size of the fish in a lake just 10minute walk from my house)

big tip, if ur using a controller float.. make it black.. or any color thats not white.. ive scared off a lot of fish that tried to take my controller.. now I made them black with paint or a perm marker, never happened again.. also i use braid for my mainline since its naturally floating and a lot stronger then mono so that solves 2 problems at once... and maybe a little vaseline on the fluor leader.. to ensure that it floats aswell... also i never use the bolt effect.. i just rig my sbirulinos sliding.. works perfect aswell.. also on aliexpress u can get like 10 for 10 euro....

@JamieVauxnut14 жыл бұрын
Just a bit of advise when applying Vaseline to the hooklink as seen in the video . You don't want to apply it that close to the hook end , say your fishing a 6ft link you want the first 4.5ft to float and the last 1.5ft to sink so the fish can't see it . Its actually advisable to apply a sinkant at the hook end so it breaks the surface tension being less obvious , just as you would when fishing dry flies
@fishingtutorials4 жыл бұрын
We don’t like having the last section sinking as very often we’ve seen fish go to take the bait, and touch the line as they approach. Each to their own though, whatever works for you! :)
@JamieVauxnut14 жыл бұрын
I've had the opposite experience as the line is exaggerated by the surface film in flat conditions and had fish spook that way. Maybe its my experience fly fishing that makes me cringe thinking about greasing a line all the way up to the hook . Even if the line isn't 'sunk' just sub surface its so much less visable , but like you say each to their own and this is only talk at the end of the day . Proof is in the catching 👌
@fishchipsandmushypeas2 жыл бұрын
I had a crack at this yesterday however the carp turned away at the very last second - is there a way of burying the hook or presenting the bait better?

if the line is floating why do we put petroleum vaseline? does the main line really need to be floating? or can it be a normal mono line?
@fishingtutorials4 жыл бұрын
The Vaseline just helps add buoyancy to the line. Normal mono is often too heavy, the surface line is lighter and more supple. All I’d say is that sinking line will ruin your presentation especially if it’s used as a hook link. The line creates a ‘U’ shape and pulls the bait towards the float, meaning fish spook more often when they come up to take the bait. Hope that makes sense and good luck with your fishing!! :)

Martin.B I downloaded a bird-song app, and selected a recording of a hawk or similar bird of prey, if nuisance birds turn up I then play it loudly thru my phone, usually does the trick, if not then all u can do is feed them until they're full at which point they'll disappear for a nap and leave u alone, just makes sure you've got lots of mixers or pellets

We use small hooks when we cant hide the hook from the fish inside bread! When we use bread we use a much bigger hook and tuck it inside the bread :)
@nielstijsmans52474 жыл бұрын
@@fishingtutorials i just use a bigger piece off bread ;) Wrapping my line 3 times around the piece then flip my hook over the line and pull it light so it stays in one piece. Use that if I have to cast to the fish can make it wet and it will not fall apart

Poor floats tbh. The tail end goes under after a while. The fox bolt bubble is much better, also hooks the fish on takes, so you don’t have to strike and rip their mouths apart. Korda did a green version a few years back. That one was much better.
@fishingtutorials4 жыл бұрын
Interesting Danny! We’ve found the Korda ones self hook the fish too, each to their own though! Whatever works for you :)
@TerrifiedRat Жыл бұрын
Got these thinking they were the slightly larger Panfish floats kzbin.infoUgkx_rJB7cli5f1ofPVGgn80S7Yj4vqwq0gU recommend they work just fine. The smaller size lets me carry more in my tackle box, and the 3 color choices are nice for different lighting conditions, backgrounds, etc. They aren't the most durable things in the world. But, as cheap as they are, it's not heartbreaking to lose one or have to replace a worn one. The price on these fluctuates wildly, from about $9 to almost $16. So, time your buy accordingly.
