Rod hooks and landing net, never forget the net! me and a friend of mine back some 20+ years ago when we was kiddos unlocked the freeline and bread method on our local pond and started cleaning up the big carp even catching the biggest one, named "SUB" for being a dark backed common that often cruised on the surface, multiple times. the other older anglers of the pond took a bad view to us and in a month of 2 all bread and freeline baits was banned from the pond. kinda funny how some people get over kids younger than them bagging in the goodies. Freelining will always be one of my most engaging methods of fishing. Even now after a LONG break free lining is the most exciting, after float fishing.

Many a time, Carp will take the loose fed dog biscuits, but will refuse the one with the hook!!, may have a lot to do the difference in buoyancy due to the weight of the hook. If that's the case, try carving a Large, Similarly coloured, Pop Up Boillie into the same shape & size as the dog biscuits. The Pop Up is more buoyant & will counteract the weight of the hook so it looks more like the same as the Freebies!!

Seriously good video but curious why you use a thinner diameter mono which brings down the breaking strain, instead of fluorocarbon ? Which is invisible in water and floats.
@fishingtutorials Жыл бұрын
Fluorocarbon has a density higher than water so it sinks. :) Mono tends to be neutrally buoyant so with some oil will stay on the surface.

how did you attach the pop up to your hook ?

If you want to do an epic surface fishing video I recon I could get you on my club lake if I put you intouch with the fishery manager... Its got to be one of the most productive surface fishing lakes in the country, the carp simply do not eat off the bottom on this venue, you can catch them on bread in summer, and pellet waggler a foot below the surface all winter. You will go through 4-5 loafs of bread in 3hrs on a mental day and 2-3 loafs on an average day, its not uncommon to catch upwards of 1000kg of carp if you spent a full day fishing it however you normally get sick of catching them after an hour or 2 its that productive, lake has a handful of 20s in there aswell so not just all small fish.

More and more fisheries are banning the use of bread. I have discovered that banana is a wonderful bait for carp, especially slight under-ripe bananas because they float really well and stay on the hook better. Cut into cubes.

Hy carl with wat tipe of rods do you fish on the surface
@fishingtutorials Жыл бұрын
Any carp rod will do, but I prefer a lighter rod if possible as I’ll be holding the rod all day. I’ve normally got a 10ft, 2.75lb rod for this, but a 12ft might be more suitable for fishing a long way out on big lakes.
