Try using method feeders mate if your only just learning. And small well stocked lakes to begin with. Hope you catch a few with the kids 🤞🏻👍🏻

As said above, it’s hard to go wrong with a method feeder.

I agree, a method feeder with a quiver tip rod is a very easy set up, no need to plum the depth of the lake if you were float fishing, very easy rigs to set up and can be set up within 10 mins and you're fishing

Would love a indepth video on the rods and reels you use for carp fishing 🎣. I just recently ordered a diawa black widow reel and a 10ft diawa black widow rod. I'm hoping I bought the right combo. Also as a USA carp Fisherman with no access to tackle shops here with carp tackle. A good website recommendation to buy gear would be awesome! Great content guys! I am from Connecticut and carp fishing here has grown in popularity, we even have trophy carp waters here designated by the state. The state record being 43 pounds!

I grew up fishing very regularly, and went on fishing holidays every year until my late teens. I only recently joined an angling association and started fishing regularly again after about 20 years of only fishing on the odd occasion. Watching this video I just realised that most of the things you are advising I actually do without even thinking about it. The only thing which is taking some getting used to is modern methods and tackle. I was nervous about landing my 1st carp since coming back fishing, but once it got on the hook it just felt like the last 20 years had disappeared and I was a young lad fishing again and it cane back so naturally to me, which was a pleasant surprise.

Its nice to hear someone who can relate to anglers from all levels, I'm not sure if this is a good tip, but I tend to have the drag set tight enough to give decent pressure to the fish constantly, but leave a bit in the tank, that way I can use a finger or my hand to hold the spool if I need to apply more pressure to the fish to prevent it reaching a snag or to tire it out a but quicker.

I guess my question to you is what strength line is best to put on your spool? Carp fishing in a lake that has various high end 20lbs and a number of 30lb + , what strength line would you use? Is it right to get a 40lb Line so then you know you can catch or is something like 10lb line ok?

Hi Carl, what a great video! One of my pet hates in fishing is seeing people who appear to have no idea of how to play fish. One example being Bob Mortimer on Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing. Bob often hooks into a fish of whatever size, and all he does is wind in and appears to take no notice of what the fish is doing. I know it’s a tv programme and he might just be doing it for effect, he’s supposed to be a fairly experienced angler, but it really winds me up OCD style lol. But I have seen people out and about with little fishing experience doing the same, personally I find it very difficult to explain to someone how to do it, but your video is spot on for anyone who doesn’t know how to do it! 👍🏻

Thank you Graham. So pleased you enjoyed it :) Haha yes I know what you mean! I think Bob is supposed to know nothing and Paul is trying to help him. Hence that automatic reeling! I help my partner with that as new anglers can have that reflex until they learn not to, and learn to watch the fish, which does take a bit of practice. But that's fishing isn't it! Lots of practice, and getting that feel for it, which yes, can be really hard to explain.

Can you tell us more about your setup(reel, rod, etc.) and where to buy it? I'm looking for a good rod and reel. My budget is 100-120 pounds per rod setup(I need 2), I need i spod rod too. I'm a amature so I don't need anything professional.

This is a Daiwa Crosscast 10ft 3lb testcurve rod with a Daiwa gs 4000 reel :) they're decent! and might be more around £130 per set up if you can stretch to it? Well worth it and for the quality too at that price.

Size 4 & 6 hooks seem so small. I caught a 18 pound (8kilo) carp with a 1/0 octopus hook with anchovies.

Trying to teach my lad how to fish. Whilst not really knowing how to fish myself. Only ever caught 3 carp. 1 at Hackett lakes Nottingham and 2 at belvoir castle small lake. Now small peach. Roach I catch all the time. But I enjoy being outside all day so no bother if I don't catch a monster.

Might be good to do a tutorial on balanced tackle If a known fishery only has up to 20lb Carp a lower test curve rod to take any lunges lighter line and the importance of the hooklink strength so any breakage will be only the hooklength I use a 10lb colmic teck stream line of .185mm 5.4 kg ( just under 12Lb for hooklinks ) and a 15lb feeder mono mainline usually a size 10 hook fishery rules dictate hook size Carp up to around the just plus 20 lb I use a Preston feeder rod which is very through action .I see people using 3.5lb test curve rods that have the action of a broomstick then wonder why they get hook pulls
