When I was a kid my dad used to take me fishing before he died. We always did float fishing. It was such a thrill seeing the float bob up then shoot under the water. It’s been 16 years since my dad died and 16 years since I last went fishing. These videos really give me a good nostalgia hit and make me want to get back into it! 😁

I know this is quite old, I've just watched it with my granddaughter, I'm 60 now, past tutorial, however how I wish we had this tech in the 70s😂, I started at about 10ish, I went fishing for 2 years without a fish. (less stickleback), a day I will never forget, I was fishing the river tees for dace, a man from Nottingham, (the tees back then in winter was a top dace venue) he stopped fishing and came to my peg, he talked me through the whole thing, simler to what you have done, never looked back at, 13 and again at 14 I was selected to fish the national junior championships for "North Yorkshire and south Durham" I can't thank that man enough, now days with tech at you're finger tips, my granddaughter is bang into fishing, this is a joy for both of us, well done.

@@FlannelPrime the tees is such a good spot but 2 years without a fish! that takes dedication to not quit. its crazy because my first time fishing i caught a huge 15 pound mirror carp it may not be big for some but the excitement of bringing in your first fish is unmatchable.

Hi Alan, It reminded me of a similar thing that happened to me in the 70's when I was 11 or 12 fishing with a friend in Bedford and we were both clueless, when a man spoke to us about technique and his favourite spots it was a real eye opener. The next time out, we went by the warm water outfall from the power station into the river Ouse that he had mentioned, and using sweetcorn and floats caught a bagful of Roach. From then on we went all over the county getting better and better results. A couple of other times we were given great tips by older anglers. Every time we talk to youngsters it inspires them to become better anglers if we show an interest and aim to help not lecture or patronise. We should all do it!

There can be something so cathartic about watching a subject you love and appreciate be explained to a beginner for the first time. This video reminded me of learning to fish with my Dad many years ago, and gave me the excitement of those first casts all over again. Thanks guys! PS what a wonderful Tench!

Hi Carl, just watched your appearance on The Thinking Tackle Podcast. I am one of the boom time covid viewers who after being put on furlough for a month found you and Alex channel. I find your personal story amazing, from being bullied at school, suffering panic attacks, confidence issues but to have the huge determination to provide such honest and wonderful content that you do. To see the video of you and your dad brushing off the snow from your van to go catch carp on the canal, see you help the old man who had fallen on the ice and be soo caring to others and to see the moment you met Ommi truly amazing. Keep up the great work and look forward to seeing your future blossom.

Another great fishing tutorial. I love keeping things simple and doing some float fishing. One of the best bits of advice i was ever given was to remember that "any movement at the reel end of your rod is amplified at the tip. You don't have to move your rod far when you strike." Keep it up lads. I'm hoping to get your book soon.

I wanted to get into it, and after watching your videos, I got some very basic tackle and have been twice over the last couple of weeks and absolutely loved it. Caught absolutely loads nothing special but exactly what you want when getting into it. Already thinking of upgrading my equipment, and after watching your carp setup video, I will be having a go at that, too. Can already tell fishing will do me a world of good. Thank you.

Our style of float fishin is different because we deal with tidal currents and wind at best for mullets …we use line ( wax) dressing to float the main line to keep minimal slack as to set the hook on a bite…the guides on your pole being small at the reel end would limit casting distance in our situation ….we also hand make our own floats ( tip ups ) for the specific lead shots and float weight for the distance we need…your bottom depth finding method is exactly what we do though ….your ultra light tackle you use is admiring because I’ve dabbled in it and had great fun doing so…bites come easier and makes any fish bigger than it seems..and to add to that for a beginner it’s a good idea to start with light tackle because it will teach you what knot tying works and how to play a fish…👍🏼

Love watching your videos it helps me a lot and to appreciate the sport more than what I do thank you very much Carl and Alex. Best angler Carl 100% doesn’t always go on about mushrooms and birds when fishing lol 😂

Earlier on this year, me and my dad went float fishing for the day at my local lake, we managed to get a 3lb Tench before my dad's rod was even set up! Apparently in the lake we go to, Tench are fairly rare, so we must've been really lucky! One more thing, lovely Tench 👍👍

Can I ask, if a float has a stated split shot weight, how do you know how much to place above and below the float & how much allowance remains to place down toward the hook length? This always catches me out.

Fantastic video. Love both the channels. How about a jargon buster episode? There’s some terms/words I don’t understand still.

My Wife often fishes with me but struggles with the concept of Striking. It is not unusual for me to have to rescue some very surprised little Rudd from a tree. Having said that, she usually catches the largest fish!🤣 A Tench is such a beautiful creature and definitely my favourite Species.

Anyone that’s just started fishing be careful when feeding the line through the rings don’t bend the tip of the rod or it will brake very easily and never leave your rod unattended for incase your rod gets pulled in big mistakes I did 15 years ago haha
